Every ingredient was perfectly paired, and somehow everything just worked together beautifully. The chicken was perfectly cooked and placed right on top, making it the perfect addition to all the fresh vegetables. I completely cleaned my bowl! That's always a good sign. Definitely a new place to add to my list when I'm looking for a delicious lunch. I'd absolutely go back!

It's happened many times by staff behind the bar so that bottle of Grey Goose may not even be Grey Goose. It's a federal crime but they do it anyway. Not to mention they have been known to take shots behind the bar, which has led to delayed orders and sometimes not receiving an order at all. I once tried to get Alain's attention but I couldn't because his back was to me while he sat at the bar watching tv. Lastly, the staff doesn't notify guests that a 20pct tip is included in the bill because they want guests to tip even more. I used to go there because it was close to my job and the food was good. But the service just kept getting worse and worse so I decided to start bringing my lunch to work. Go at your own risk.

My wife and I were in Philly for a long weekend and this place looked pretty cool…read more The bouncer checked our ID and we were led through the packed bar to a table for two. They had really good beer prices and I ordered an IPA and a Philly Cheesesteak and a hummus plate. After having some amazing cheesesteaks, this one was a little subpar, not bad but nothing compared to Angelo's, which was amazing. The hummus was really great and we went through it, so good. Pretty good service for such a packed place. Kind of dive bar, but obviously people loved it. Lots of TVs on the walls and I think it has been around a long time. Located in an alley type road. Worth a try.

Its pretty cool on the inside, definitely passes the Irish pub vibe check. One thing that killed it for us right away: it was LOUD. Sure, we're not in our twenties anymore, but we're not super old. It was mid afternoon, before dinner time, and the music was so loud we were going to have to yell across the tiny table to hear each other. After walking around in the heat all day it was just not what we were looking for. We did stay for a drink. He had a decent old fashioned, though pretty tiny for the price. I had a beer, and it was what would be expected. The one thing that really stood out was the server. She was nice, pleasant, and very quick. I'd maybe go back if I was in the right mood, but that day was certainly not the day for me.

My husband and I randomly stopped in here for lunch on our walk from center city to the art museum…read more What a great stop!! From the outside you can't tell that it has a fun tropical/tiki vibe going on. Maybe it was just for summer, but it was really fun! The servers and bartenders were all in tropical shirts, and there were other tiki touches without going full-blown Tiki Bar. The bathrooms were interesting. All the stalls are unisex, single stall, and then the sink is a big trough outside all the stalls. Unconventional, but it works. We both ordered beers - we had the Summer Love and the Philly First. Both were really good! We shared them so we could both enjoy some of each. To eat, my husband ordered a chicken Caesar wrap with fries, and I had the spicy Buddha bowl. Chicken Caesar wrap was good (hard to screw that up), and we both thought the fries were pretty good. Not the best I've ever had or anything, but good, enjoyable fries. The Buddha bowl, however, was outstanding! Cilantro rice, edamame, carrots, red cabbage, broccolini, and I added chicken for protein. It was the perfect level of spice, and a really nice balance of veggies to rice to protein. 10/10, would order again! I'm probably going to end up trying to recreate it at home. The only note I have for it (and it's super minor) is that it could maybe have a sweet or tart note added. Mandarin oranges, mango, pineapple... something like that. I would absolutely recommend stopping here! Next time we're in town I will go out of my way to go again.

Monk's Cafe has been a favorite of mine for years - I love Belgian beers, and this is one of the…read morebest spots in the city for them. Small, rustic, a little loud, Monk's Cafe is exactly what you want from a proper Belgian beer bar. Original plan was to sneak away solo for a bit during our Labor Day weekend trip, since we had two families with young kids in tow, but in the end everyone decided to come along, and it turned out to be a great call. There are plenty of kid-friendly food options, so nobody was stuck without something to eat. The real treat this visit was a tap takeover by Cantillon, the legendary Belgian lambic brewery out of Brussels. Getting to try a couple of their beers on tap was honestly a bit of a dream - it's the kind of thing you don't expect to find outside of Belgium, so I definitely took advantage. Food-wise[1], we ordered the pork belly, the duck salad, and the squash & mushrooms - all excellent, but the duck salad was the standout of the table. The also offer 5 different kinds of mussels, each version prepared with a different kind of beer, and multiple vegetarian options. This is a step above typical pub food, more refined without losing any of the coziness. We went as a group of six on a Saturday late afternoon, no reservation, and waited about 30 minutes for a table - not bad at all for a Saturday. We grabbed a couple of beers at the bar while we waited, and ended up getting seated at one of the large round tables up front, which worked perfectly for our group. Already looking forward to going back. ------------------------------------ [1] Menu: https://www.monkscafe.com/menu
