It's not every day that you find a place that does boba *and* mochi donuts well, but Fat Straws has some bragging rights in both. Primarily a bubble tea spot when they first opened, they managed to be among the first few places to offer the infamous "Pon de Ring" (#1) just a few years ago. Fast forward to several locations and lots of expansion, they've fully incorporated the mochi + boba into their lineup and brand. This Preston Rd location isn't quite as popular as the Plano or Alpha Rd locations, but it's getting there. It's a small store, with some seating for small parties and lots of strip mall parking. Like the rest, it's clean and modern and perfect for the youngins. And just like their IG friendly brand, it's colorful and convivial throughout. They seem to have rebounded back to full staffing and indoor seating, which was extremely problematic during the height of the pandemic. If we're talking strictly donuts, matcha will always have a special place in my mochi loving heart. Fruity pebbles will always do well for social media purposes and is as sweet as it looks. The dark horse is the pandan coconut, as well as the black sesame / tiger (seasonal). If they have any specials available, it's always worth considering. It's about $28 for a dozen, $15 for a half. From a beverage front, their drinks are as colorful as their donuts. I really enjoy their seasonal specials such as their watermelon cooler and strawberry pineapple lemonade. The brewed teas, such as their jasmine blueberry, hibiscus cooler, and happy tea are more of my speed during the summer months. The house milk tea skews a bit on the sweeter side, but I'm not mad at it. I also think it's worth looking at some of their other varieties such as the pineapple fresca, pumpkin spice anything, or the vanilla berry truffle milk tea. They have specials often and I think it's worth checking out their social media pages prior to a visit. They could include drink bundles, special menu items, and even discounts. Online ordering / curbside is also available and I recommend for frequent visitors to try a little something different from their vast menu with every visit. ____________ (#1) aka, the modern day mochi donut.

Very cute shop. Non traditional mochi taste and texture but still very fun. The service was friendly and helpful. Not many flavors. We got a variety of what they had which was 3 flavors.

Fat Straws used to be my fav boba shop in DFW but has recently lost its quality. I'm not sure I will be returning. To preface, I have a milk sensitivity and I cannot drink anything that has whole milk or heavy cream. I ordered the pandan latte and told the cashier that I wanted coconut milk with it and she promptly told me that it already had coconut milk so I didn't have to order it with it. Once we received the drinks, they looked different from the previous year that I got them (I think in 2022) so I asked if they have milk or cream in the drink. The girl that made the drinks said that the recipe changed from last year and it definitely had dairy in it. It was upsetting because 1) the cashier didn't tell me that it had dairy in it and 2) I was looking forward to having the pandan latte and the recipe changed so I couldn't drink it anymore. The girl that made the drinks ignored me after I told her I couldn't drink the drink she made and said that I could order another drink to replace it. I had to get back in line and order which took a while. I ordered the raspberry fruit tea and it was really artificial tasting and I really didn't like it. I didn't want to be a bother (because they already remade my order once) so I didn't go back inside and ask for another drink.

This is my frequent spot for bubble teas in Big D. Semi-sweet I've learned to order. Having tried quite a few flavors here, my go-tos now are Matcha and Horchata. Friendly and accommodating is the staff. Inevitably while there, I also pick up one or two of their usually enticing mochi donuts. Liking that there's less sticky rice filling than others. When made fresh, their Cookies & Cream can't be beat. CHEERS!

Of all mochi donuts I've tried, these have been the best. You can definitely taste the mochi and I love their flavors.

This is strictly for the mochi donuts not boba ~~ This was my first time eating mochi donuts and didn't know what to expect! They had a lot of flavors to choose from and the flavors I was most curious about, the cashier recommended against. Knowing that it was my first time having mochi, the cashier gave me and my boyfriend samples of almost every flavor. It seriously made my day and I could see why they didn't recommend the flavors I had wanted - that being matcha and black sesame. They recommended strawberry which I loved. It was as if someone melted strawberry pocky flavor on top! The fruity pebbles was decent but i would add that the cereal gets soggy. These definitely need to be eaten on the same day due to the nature of mochi. The texture is amazing and I can definitely see myself over ordering but keep in mind it's pretty sugary. So this is definitely meant to share for a crowd ...not half a dozen for yourself.

Much smaller location than the Plano one

Smaller location than the Plano one. They were all out of most mochi donut flavors except for black sesame, tiger( orange) and Strawberry (gold). My favorite is the black sesame so I was fine. The churro is amazing but unfortunately they did not have it.

1 star for the drink. I will pass on this new pandan latte drink. It taste so artificial and has a weird aftertaste. Just look at the color of the drink.... In my opinion, It is not balanced with pandan and coconut. I give it 3 stars total because their mochi donuts are pretty good. Their Mochi donuts are not as chewy as I would like but it is still good, and their glaze on the mochi donut is flavorful and have nice texture (not runny like some other places). In summary: go for their mochi donuts and not the drinks

4/5 stars - Mochi Donuts. Oreo, s'mores, strawberry, coffee flavor. 1/2 dozen $15.00 with tax $16.24 or $2.50 each.

Fat Straw - Mochi Donuts. Wanted to see what was all the hype about in Dallas. Not bad. Freshly Bake Mochi Donuts. Very Chewy which I like. The flavor taste is on the Icing. We order Oreo, s'mores, strawberry, coffee flavor. I like the strawberry and the s'mores flavor. I was hoping they had pandan flavor. 1/2 dozen $15.00 with tax $16.24 or $2.50 each.

This location is COVID friendly. They have curbside pickup available for you, you just have to call and tell them to bring it out. Love the safety ness of it all. Japanese Mochi Donuts never disappoint. They are so chewy and flavorful. Majority of the flavors are always spot on. Today, we picked up 4 flavors from their Lunar New Year lineup. My personal favorite was the Ube and my boyfriends favorite was Coconut Pandan. Thai tea was okay, there wasn't a "wow" factor for me. Vietnamese Coffee is good for those who enjoy coffee flavors. We also picked up some coconut milk tea and jasmine green milk tea. These are our go to drinks! No place has a coconut MT so we were very surprised and excited. Try this place out if you are craving some sweets and a drink!

Mochi doughnuts (strawberry, churro, vanilla glazed, oreo) and drinks

We got 4 drinks plus 4 doughnuts, and everything came out super fast and accurate. Literally as soon as I paid and walked a few steps to the pick up counter, my drink was ready. I got their coconut milk tea with boba and cloud cream, which was super good. The doughnuts were also good, chewy and soft on the inside with a crispy outside.

Amazingly, we got to try them all and with all the salty, savory food we started to look for some dessert to balance out our palate. That's when we stumbled on a stand that advertised cake balls. Yup. CAKE BALLS. We were all pretty full, but still wanted to try them all. I mean, when you're presented with the choice of Snickers, Oreos, Butterfinger, Cinnamon and Sugar, [Fruity] Pebbles, or Cherry Glaze it's pretty hard to single out the best flavor. I ended up getting their 3 most popular ones: Snickers, Butterfinger and Pebbles. There's one thing that you need to know about these cake balls. They're not like any other you've tasted. Usually, cake balls are made from a mixture of cake batter with a lot of icing to keep it moist. Beckett's method is to use a donut hole as the base encased in a layer of their own special frosting with your choice of candy or cereal. It sounds simple and mundane, but I can assure you that these were some of the best cake balls I've ever had in my life. The donut base was pillowy and moist. With the super sweet frosting it melded perfectly into what seemed like a piece of heaven in every bite. The crushed candy was the icing on the cake, per say, adding different flavors and textures to each ball. I really can't explain it more than I have. It was just pure awesomeness. In an environment where pretty much everything is fried it was a welcome surprise to find a stand that served something different. I spoke with the owners and they said they were in the process of relocating their business from Tulsa, OK to Dallas. Their presence in the Big D will allow us to enjoy some of these awesome cake balls year round instead of having to wait until the State Fair runs each year. Happy dance. If you're looking for something different keep your eyes peeled for Beckett's. I'm sure you will enjoy their cake balls as much as I did.
