There's something special about a classic railroad car diner, and Midnight Diner never misses…read more Whether it's 2:00 PM or 2:00 AM, the vibe is always right and the food is pure comfort. The menu is massive, but you really can't go wrong with their Southern staples. The Shrimp & Grits is legendary for a reason--super creamy and packed with flavor. If you're leaning more toward breakfast, their chicken and waffles or the thick-cut French toast are absolute winners. The portions are huge, so definitely come hungry. Since they moved to their new spot near the Spectrum Center, it's a perfect stop after a game or a night out Uptown. It's busy, loud, and exactly what a diner should be. Plus, the service is surprisingly fast given how packed they usually are. Highly recommend if you want that old-school Charlotte feel!

By the…read moretime we got settled in, dining options were pretty limited, so we searched online and this spot looked like the best choice -- and we're glad we found it. When we pulled up, there was a police outside, which didn't bother us. If anything, it made things feel more secure. They also use a metal detector when you walk in before being seated. Don't let that scare you off though -- this place is a well-oiled machine and everything felt organized and under control. Our server was fantastic: calm, attentive, and never pushy. I ordered the country fried steak with collards and mashed potatoes with gravy, and my husband got a burger. My meal was excellent, and it came with a perfectly flaky biscuit. The tea was Southern SWEET tea, too. My husband said his burger was good for a diner, fresh vegetables and the fries were seasoned well. The diner itself is adorable, full of character and charm. Overall, we had a great experience and would absolutely come back.

After waiting, the cashier said "Hi," so I thought she was speaking to me, but she was actually answering the phone and took a full order before helping me. I also had to ask for a menu because one wasn't offered. Anywho, the restaurant felt extremely crowded with very little space between tables and walkways. Someone stepped on my foot, and another customer asked if I could give up my seat so their group could sit. The biggest issue was the packaging. My containers were placed upside down in the bag, and the butter inside the box had no lid, so it spilled everywhere and was already a mess when I opened the bag in my car. When I went back to notify the waitresses at the counter and ask for napkins, I was told the boxes were always packed upside down "on purpose," but that explanation didn't make sense since it caused the food to flip over and the butter to spill all over everything. (I have photos showing this). The food tasted good, but after everything I experienced, I won't be returning. For those curious about the cost, my receipt was $19.33 and after a $5 tip I paid $24.33 total.

We left wishing we would have gone to a waffle house or McDonalds so we wouldn't have the taste left in our mouth. Grits were a Worcestershire based sauce (nasty) and the corn beef tasted straight out of a can. I felt sorry for the locals that this was what they had to compare all others to. Someone please help bring better places for them to go to. And the prices weren't great either! Only thing going for this place was the nice staff.
