By the time my drink came out, my wife and I decided to split the "pub grub" which is hand cut chips smothered in beer cheese sauce and topped with bacon bits and green onions. For 99 cents more, we opted for fries instead of the chips. The fries were golden brown and the sauce was creamy. Seeing that Mr. Brews was open until 11pm (other spots close at 9 on a Friday night - what the heck!) we drove on over. Location is a little hidden but well-lit and ample parking! We were greeted with a fairly empty restaurant, except for a few folks at the bar and a few couples at both high and low top tables. We made our way to a table near the window and was quickly greeted by a friendly young woman. She promptly brought out waters, gave us time to search the menu and placed our orders within 7 minutes! I opted for an NA beer, which was served with an ice-cold beer glass - which paired nicely the order of cheese curds we started with! I chose the Kentucky Bourbon Burger Bowl - which All beef burger, shredded cheese, grilled onions, bacon, and crispy onions, served on a bed of greens topped with our Signature Kentucky bourbon mayo - YUMMMMMM! Everything tasted SO good, fresh and my portion size was massive. My husband chose the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich which he found to be underwhelming. The chicken was SO paper thin and almost nothing to it - which was surprising - so he was a little disappointed in the ratio. However, flavor was on point. Prices were reasonable and I'd return, when/if in Appleton again!

I Came Back to Appleton... Wisconsin Immediately Fed Me…read more There are many ways to kick off an HS Reunion weekend. Apparently, the correct Wisconsin way is cheese curds, a soft pretzel, beer cheese, mustard, and craft beer. One of my host~family sisters and longtime friends brought me to Stone Arch Brewpub shortly after I touched down in Appleton, and this was exactly the kind of welcome~back I needed. Let's talk about those cheese curds. Pillowy. Soft. Tender. Ridiculously good. I don't say this lightly, but these may be some of the best cheese curds I've ever eaten. Then came the pretzel~super buttery and incredibly soft~with Wisconsin beer cheese and mustard for dipping. At that point, the reunion could have ended and I would've considered the trip successful. But we weren't done. We worked our way through an assortment of craft beers spanning Hazy IPAs, West Coast IPAs, Sours and Gose~style beers. The atmosphere was cool, the service was great, and the combination of food, beer and catching up with an old friend made this feel like the perfect beginning to my return to Appleton. Sometimes the best travel experiences aren't about finding the newest or trendiest place. Sometimes it's about sitting down with someone who knows you, sharing some great food and beer, and realizing some things really do feel like coming home. Stone Arch was a damn good way to start the reunion. Would absolutely return.

The crowd is pretty mixed: college students, 20-30-something townies, and throw in a couple old guys. The staff here is so friendly! I love the bartenders. They're always happy to replenish my water and never make me feel guilty for not ordering a drink (yeah, I know, I'm lame). When my friend moved away from Appleton, we threw her a goodbye party here because this was always her favorite bar. The group of us took up all of the tables and the staff was very attentive to all of us. The bartenders even played jukebox music just for us. The locals were as friendly as usual and chatted with some of us. What I love about Jim's Place is that it's laid-back (though not as much as, say, The Nickel) and you can still easily have a conversation with someone instead of yelling over the music. Also, the way the bar is set up makes it pretty easy to chat with people you don't know, which I like. Fun fact: I hung out with my professor here once!

Super helpful and friendly, explaining everything. I started with the pickled egg because I was intrigued. If you like pickled anything and a little spice, this will not disappoint. I can't even begin to explain the fantastic flavor bomb that is the pickled egg. I also ordered the breakfast tacos for my main. I love a unique spin on breakfast foods because I can never find breakfast tacos near me except in my kitchen! Each taco was full of steak, cheese, eggs, grilled peppers, and onions. Very good! The steak could have used a little more seasoning as it was just ok in flavor, but I added hot sauce, giving it the pep it needed. My family all enjoyed their meals; a LARGE Reuben sandwich - heavy on the meat, no skimping on flavor. The Reuben Skillet was a deconstructed Reuben with two over-easy eggs on top of a bed of hash browns. The beer was great (per my husband and FIL)! They didn't try too many options as it was going to be a long day of drinking! The food was fantastic! A pleasant surprise considering some brewery food can be hit or miss. The most unique of all was the old cigarette machine that doubled as an art display. All pieces inside are available for purchase and are all made by local artists. Such a fun way to repurpose these machines and support local!
