Stopped by on the way home from a weekend getaway. Thought we'd give it a try mainly because it seems like a local restaurant. Not sure if the "meat and 2 sides" are just a Sunday thing, but the food was excellent. We both had the fried chicken. When traveling near Fat Jacks again we plan on stopping. What a happy surprise to find this restaurant! It is very deceiving, inside a simple decor. Cement floors simple benches metal chairs with soft cushions .. it doesn't look like the food would be delicious. well the shrimp with grits were buttery spicy and cheesy. A ample amount.. two people could have eating well off of the one dish. Tracy was our waitress and she couldn't more gracious With any request that we had. Solidly good food and service. There are a couple of TVs for football viewing. I enjoyed a dinner salad with grilled scallops. My husband ordered a dinner salad topped with grilled shrimp. Seafood was fresh and grilled perfectly. We will eat here again on our way to the beach. read more

Wow! this place rocks! My wife and I have eaten here twice in the past few months, on our way to and from Florida. First time was on a whim. We saw the Billboard along I95 and were intrigued with the name and decided to give it a shot. The second trip, we sought it out like a Bear looks for Honey. Both times we had a Lunch Special, and it was all orders of wonderful for $7.99. So far I've had the catfish and the fried chicken, My Wife had the smothered Chicken, both came with two sides. The portions are more than adequate, and my wife could only get through half of her order. I managed to finish mine, but could not even begin to finish my wifes. We asked for a box. Now the best news is, I finally found fabulous Collard greens. These were near dessert quality and now, since Kirby and Holloway is gone, these are the standard to which other collard greens will be measured. I'd give them a 5 star just on this alone, but everything was stellar. The service is personable, and prompt. The food is southern cooking at it's best, don't be fooled by the fancy square plates, what they put on them, is the real deal. I seldom give out 5 stars, but cannot recommend enough. We were greeted so warm. The waitress was very attentive so us. Checking every 5 minutes. The food came out hot and fresh. We had the lunch special meatloaf and fried chicken with Mac n cheese, fried okra, collard greens and sweet potatoes fries. Wow wow wow. It tasted like southern style grandma Sunday dinner. If you are in the area, definitely stop by. Also they special in seafood but I wasn't in the mood for that. I will definitely stop by when in this area. We stopped for a quick meal on the way home from Florida. We were seated quickly but had to find a server to take our order. Food was a little slow to arrive considering it was not crowded. Once the food arrived it was good food. My sister was happy to see a turkey burger on the menu and said it was very good. The philly sandwich was food but I would have preferred something other than white American cheese. The chicken tenders were average. Black n blue burger was good --hand patties burger with a slice of bleu cheese. French fries were average. Potato salad tasted homemade. All in all food was food but service was a little slow. A surprise find - near the Walmart supercenter - Fat Jack's is the finest steakhouse in Walterboro, SC. The decor is modernist plain, and the staff is friendly & attentive. The steaks were delivered perfectly as ordered, the salads & sides were fresh and tasty. Heartily recommended! read more

Awesome place for a casual meal. When you walk in you're not sure if it's fast food or fine dining. But you quickly realize it's a mix and the best of both. The service is fine dining and the food tastes great but they are quick in getting you your meal. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the amazing deserts. Each and every one of the desserts looked great. Definitely the toughest dessert decision in quite some time. If you're on the 95 it's less than a half mile off the highway. We stopped here from PA en route to Florida - the kids' pizza was a mini microwaved one, the ribs were clearly frozen, just edible. My burger had SO much salt in it that it was actually crunchy in places. Nice waitress, super clean bathrooms... but bland/ not tasty food. read more

We drove 45 minutes from home to try Fat Jack's for dinner after viewing the menu online. We weren't disappointed. The coleslaw was delicious. The NY strip steak was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The fried oysters were moist and tender. The fries were good and hot. It was my husband's birthday so he got a song and a dish of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and a candle. It's not a fancy place but was clean and the restrooms were clean. We both thought that the service (Donna was our waitress) and the food were excellent and plan to return and try some of the other items on the menu. read more

Chose to eat here on our way south due to the reviews. It was disappointing. Most of the staff was friendly but we got there at 735 pm and the brooms were out giving us that rushed feeling. Food was ok but pretty bland. I got the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were very chewy and unseasoned. Large portion size though. My daughter got the wings with mild sauce which was mild in heat and flavor. It was as though they cut franks with vegetable oil. My wife doesn't eat much but was told she couldn't order off of the kids menu. Probably won't stop there again. read more
