Just got in to town from San Diego and wanted to check out a bar so I came here. For Abilene this place is actually pretty sweet! They have a good amount of draft beers and lots of liquor choices. I also ordered food, Club Sandwich with fries, and that was delicious. The staff was very friendly and helped me out with suggestions on places to go and things to do during my visit! This review is written from the standpoint of a lunch stop or a non-peak time period. I don't do crowds or loudness. That being said Fat Bosses is one of my favorite places to drop in during the afternoon on my days off or after work. My favorite thing on their menu is the burger. I saw in a previous review a gentleman had a bad experience with his, but in my multiple visits I've never had a bad experience. It's large and always cooked just right. Refills come quickly and I'm never sitting there with an empty glass. The bartender and waitstaff are always attentive and friendly. I personally like the decor. My only suggestion for improvement is to ditch the fries they serve. I think they're called "hand cut" fries? Yeah they suck. Serve some steak fries or the old fashioned ribbed ones. But that's a preference, not a complaint. As the 4 star rating says, I'm a fan. Now, when the place starts filling up and getting busy, I'm out the door. I am a business owner. I've worked for the hospitality industry for many years (in Miami & New Orleans) and understand customer service all too well. This woman was completely RUDE. I DROVE 1 1/2 hours from San Angelo for the Crawfish with my Employee/Apprentice and his girlfriend. The crawfish was late due to a flat tire on their way here, so we had time to kill. At first, we thought we'd sit at a table so that we could eat comfortably. Erika, came to our table to serve us. However, her demeanor was snooty & in a completely disrespectful tone, she demanded that if we sit at this table, we weren't allowed to order directly at the bar...that we had to go through her. However, she was super frustrated...although, not by us because we had literally JUST gotten here. She didn't let me get a word in. She literally HUFFED AT ME and swung her curly locks at me and stormed off. She was SO RUDE, that I'm in utter disbelief that you have someone of this caliber working in an establishment where customer service outta be a priority. Why? Tips! Why else?!? I have NEVER experienced service like this at a bar...and I've lived in Miami & New Orleans. Work ethic is a must if you want a business to prosper. I'm telling you NOW...SHE is hurting your profits. Wasn't impressed with my experience at all. The bar is slow an pretty easily distracted, and I recently had the staff tell me I couldn't go back inside to finish my drink after smoking because it was too close to closing time. They closed in a half hour and I wasn't let back in to finish what I paid for.. They had the potential to be a great place and they dashed it. read more

I like this little place! I enjoy going here alone on Saturday afternoons, playing the juke box and having a few beers for some alone time. If you're looking for food try the sampler appetizer or they have the BEST club sandwich I've ever had. Their customer service is legitimately the worst. If your passing through town (or even just looking for moderately fast service) don't go here. We ordered two burgers right away and waited 25 minutes before asking where our food was. The waitress went to check and let us know they had "just started working on it." This place was very surprising. We try to make it here for lunch quite often. The first time we stopped by was out of convenience, and I'm very happy that we did. Their food is not your normal bar food! Burgers are great, but some of their other dishes are what really make the place worth a stop. Fish and chips is excellent, and their tacos are perfect. Even their cheese steak was a surprise. They also have daily specials and good selection of local and Texas beers on tap. Atmosphere is a mix between a pub and sports bar, yet family friendly. I love going to the pub ... or used to ... but I'm also trying to watch my weight so I often get a salad. But good grief ... I pay $10.81 after taxes for a large container of a chief salad that BARELY covers the bottom. I can go right up the road to United's salad bar and get a salad literally 3x the size of this salad and only pay $8. It's crazy. The Pub used to give large salads for that money but what they are producing now should only be a $5 salad in my opinion. In fact ... I used to get this salad, from the Pub, twice this size and pay barely over $8. C'mon!! read more

My family and I recently moved into Abilene near the downtown area and decided to try out some of the nearby places to get some food. Tonight, my wife and I took our two kids to try Fat Boss's Pub. When we arrived, there was only two other tables seated. It took almost 20 minutes to get our 3 sodas and a water after ordering them. The food came out pretty quick but that's about the only positive we walked away with. My wife's pulled pork sandwich didn't have any sauce on it and when she asked if she could get some brought out, it took about ten minutes to get it. The menu said the cheesesteak I ordered was supposed to have queso on it but only had a little shredded cheese sprinkled on top. We ordered our son a cheeseburger, probably his favorite food ever. He took one bite of it then just ate the pickles and tomato off of it. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but after he said he was done, I decided to eat it so as not to be wasteful. Now, I can eat me some burgers. Even if they aren't that good. But I took one bite of this one and immediately knew why my son didn't want to eat it. But perhaps I just had a bad bite, so I took another one. Nope, this just might have been the worst tasting burger I've ever had in my 32 years. Over cooked (flat out burnt in most places), dry, poorly seasoned...simply awful. We also never received any silverware. And to top it all off, since our meal took so long and the kids weren't eating their horrible tasting food, they began to get a little figity and one of their drinks tipped over. I tried to wipe up what I could with the few napkins we were given but I didn't have enough. I tried to wave down someone to tell them what happed, but nobody came by. So when our waitress finally came by to ask us if we wanted our check she saw the spill on the floor and gave me a dirty stink eye WTF look. So we spent over $50 to wait for our drinks, eat bad food with no silverware, and be treated poorly. Needless to say, I don't think we will be going back any time soon. read more

Yelp led me here as I was in need of a good watering hole for lunch. I dig the downtown location. Inside was large. Not noticing and empty tables we opted to sit at the empty bar. Nice draft selection for the area. Bartender was friendly. Settled on an order of fried pickles. Waited 15 minutes and then ordered burgers. The pickles arrived well after the burgers. The bartender uttered a meek" sorry." The burgers looked perfect. Awesome presentation. Cutting into them revealed instead of the med-rare we ordered, the guy on the grill cooked them to his own satisfaction of well done. Fine, I'll deal with it. Except for the burger seasoning. It's like a salt-bomb went off in my mouth. Look, I'm a fan of seasoned meat. All things good in moderation. Except these damn meat paddies that were well off the charts for salt factors. Oh, and after a few salty bites of burger the fried pickles arrived. And what the Hell, somebody dumped salt in the pickle batter as well. I love local joints, but somebody needs to lay off the damn sodium so I can rate another couple stars. read more

Good food, unique menu, typical gastro pub type bar environment, can get loud. We need more like it down town.

The food was good and plentiful. The service could not have been much worse. Our waitress acted as if we were more of a bother than a customer. We had to repeatedly ask for items such as sugar, then a teaspoon. We went to bar and got our own salt and pepper and napkins. She then comes to the table and the salt and pepper shakers that we had gotten and put a set on the table that was half empty. I had to ask for our tickets. So with so many other choices in Abilene we probably will not go back. Oh let me mention that this was 5 pm. There were less than 10 people including the three of us. read more

I think it's the best after work place in town especially if the regular staff is working. The music volume makes it easy to have a conversation. The beer selection is more than adequate. So i'm new to Abilene, and if this is an example of the available entertainment, I think that I made a mistake. I wanted to go to this place because I was told that they had a great happy hour, and the food was great. I convinced a coworker to go for after work dinner and drinks. we went in sat down adn the waitress, Holly, was great, we ordered drinks which when delivered was A) not what was ordered, and B) had no alcohol in it... Holly was great and offered to get me another one, the second drink again had no alcohol in it, this continued until Holly; who told us that she is a bartender and usually did that job but was helping wait tables because they were short staffed; offered to make the drink herself. It was the only drink out of 6 that was done properly... Then the food arrived, cheese sticks that looked like mini bricks and served with ranch dressing? rather than Marinara??, A so called Philly steak that had barbecue sauce in it?? Fish tacos that were made with what looked like fish sticks... Needless to say we will not be gracing their doors again... read more

The place is huge. There's a upstairs and a downstairs bar, which is very convenient. Drinks are inexpensive compared to other places. They have a good variety of drinks. The thing I have to say bad is they are always blasting loud music. Took forever to get my drink. Not to mention the waitresses basically wearing nothing, really do cheapen the place. This place has so much potential. I think if it keeps going at this rate it's going to be like any other place, and attract loud annoying kids. read more
