In the past when I was working in Downtown Oakland, I would walk by this business many times, not knowing what they do except signs and banners. Last week, I stopped by, asked if they do custom made magnets (the two inch promotional button-type) and what the cost would be. Yes, they do custom made magnets. I then showed them an image on paper of what I wanted. Michelle Darnell was very helpful and pleasant, suggested that if I can send it in a jpg format that she can process the order. She also mentioned that custom made magnets take about a month for completion. Wow, I'm glad that I did stop in and not wait until the last minute to get this project done. I've done some research online of other companies that do custom made magnets and the minimum cost for each magnet was $2.50, but FastSigns will be doing them at a cost of $1.32 per magnet. That's a deal compared to what other companies want to charge. Total cost is $165.00 plus tax = $179.44. Yesterday, I emailed her the image (jpg) and she was quick in responding, sending me the written contract and a credit card authorization. Oops, bad on my part that I did not carry a credit card with me to take care of the business by fax. I stopped by with a cash deposit to get the ball rolling on producing 125 custom made magnets for a celebratory event to be held on September 8. The finished product will be available for pick up on July 9, which is at least two months prior to the event and it will give me more than enough time to assemble party favor packages. Michelle and the other employees were nice, helpful and displayed a professional attitude. Customer service was great. Here it is my first time patronizing this business and I am totally impressed. Definitely I will return to consider FastSigns to possibly do a banner for the event. read more

Bait and switch pricing. I'm not sure if it was simply an oversight on their part, or if it's a regular practice of theirs. Either way, they should've tried to resolve the issue rather than letting me go as a customer. I needed a 2'x4' banner made within 2.5 business days. When I called for an estimate, I was told $92. I sent in the file and received a written estimate of $150. I called to try and reconcile the difference and I was told that it was due to it being a rush job. I noted that the salesperson on the phone with me originally said that because it's so small and because no sewing was needed, they can get it done on time without charging me the extra. He did not budge and said he would cancel the order. Perhaps the original lady was mistaken or spoke too soon, but there are plenty of other printers out there that would at least attempt to make up for it in some way. read more

I don't know who the hell gives these nuts such high ratings. Their employees? Their corporate heads? I've never encountered a more outrageous business!! They're horrible. They're really the Laurel & Hardy of signs, posters & whatever they do!! Now I've visited this ridiculous place on a number of occasions over the past years, each time sort of forgetting the last experience because I'm a busy guy. They're in a busy area of town so I always drive by. Today I was once again reminded how ridiculous this place really is. In the past I never used them because every time they priced out a job it was even more ridiculous & outlandish than the prior- about 100 times more expensive than anyone else!! She told me they've been in business there for 18yrs,, and they have been there for a long time, but for the life of me I can't believe it is for signs, posters or any of the other crap they purport to produce out of that ridiculous place! It's gotta be for the U.S. Govt or something, just using vaneer of 'signs' as a front operation for running guns, maybe for Iran/Contra or something like that. Maybe they're an Al-Qaeda front!! I don't know! Anyway, I was running an errand & needed a simple print made on an 81/2"x11" sheet of transparency- very simple thing. It would take any legitimate shop about 3 minutes to make. No. Not here. So the lady tells me the price will be $75.00 & I'd have to pick up the job in 3 days. YES!! 3 DAYS + $75.00 for a single transparency which cost 45cents at Office Max, $1.45 if you include the print!! So I say, "okay, very good, NO THANKS!!" And I left. I drove across town, walked into an Office Max, made the copy, paid Office Max $1.45 & was out the door in 5 minutes!! 5 minutes, all paid & I was on my way. I just had to drive across town to do that. so if you add the extra 5 minute drive into the equation it took 10 minutes & I saved about $73.55 in w/o a 3 day wait!!! Okay?! Now let me put all this into a little perspective in case some of you still don't see any problems with all that: I just bought an Oakland t-shirt from a t-shirt store, here in Oakland CA. today. The shirt cost me $20.00. Now if I were to pay the FASTSIGN price for that Oakland t-shirt, in relation to Office Max, the t-shirt would have cost me $1,034.40!!!!!!!! That's ONE THOUSAND THIRTY FOUR DOLLARS & FORTY CENTS for the t-shirt!!!!! Any questions?!! ALL OF FASTSIGNS JOBS ARE COMPARATIVELY RIDICULOUS IF YOU ASK ME. I've tried to do business w/ these idiots on many occasion & every time it's the same ridiculous thing- OUTRAGEOUS PRICES.
