Ivena Nails - Nice and clean salon

Overall a good experience with a couple of minor issues…read more One, I got here at 2:15 on a weekday. There was only one person getting a manicure and the salon was quiet. Guy at front grabs the gel color swatches and hands to me then directs me to a pedicure chair in the back. I have never been here before so the process was new. A cute older lady was setting up the chair for me and did most of the pedicure treatment. She didn't seem to speak much English but pointed to the pedicure price menu. She also showed me the volcano pedi menu hoo wee that would be a real treat for a special occasion but too rich for my blood. I had gel that needed to be removed and I get it that it is a bit time consuming. But daaaang the pedicure and mani took FOREVER. I appreciate a nail place taking time to have attention to detail and not rushing but this was a very long mani pedi. When the polish was removed the guy from the front took over. He smelled so strongly of cigarette smoke it was a bit of a turnoff. He did however make sure I was happy with the selection of gel color and explained that the confetti gel was clear. And that I might want a solid color under it so I chose white. It was a good choice and I am very happy with the gel color. He also shaped my fingernails very nicely. The color was applied very carefully and I have had a lot of compliments. What wasn't that great in the visit besides the long a$$ time was he cut me a few times with a very sharp tool. Near the end of the pedi he pressed down on the cut with a towel and said he has cut me and will put medicine on it. He put some white cream on the cut. The lady had also nicked me, which was disappointing. The other not so great thing was at the end when I was paying. I gave the guy a cash tip and paid for the service on a card. I was getting my keys out to leave and the guy asked if I wanted him to split the tip with the lady? What? Is that a passive aggressive way to say I needed to give another tip to the lady as well? It was a bit rude and a turnoff. Overall the gel was very nice but such a long time to get done especially when I was the only customer there most of the time.

Background for understanding: I get pedicures every month…read moreand have been to various salons. I can say this was by far the WORST experience I have ever had. I have chronic ingrown toenails, and like to get them removed with a pedicure. I go every month as to stay on top of them. This is the first time I have been to this salon, but will not returning. First Impressions: I went in with gel on my toes already from my last service, so the lady had to scrape it off. That's not unusual and have had it done before by other artists. However this lady roughly scraped the gel off as she squeezed the hell out of my toes. It hurt so much I cried twice. She wasn't empathetic in the slightest. Besides that the lady was on her phone the entire time and was generally rough with her movements. For example, she ripped off the toe hugger things at the end and said "We are done now. I'll check you out at the front". It was the tone and just everything else that made it a terrible experience. Service: I got the "CALLUS TREATMENT SUGAR SCRUB PEDICURE". I got this treatment to specifically target my heels. They were by no means super cracked, I just wanted softer feet. Tell me how I ended up still leaving with dry feet and rough heels. I also have excess skin around my cuticles that should have been taken care of. I should of just got the basic pedicure so I could have paid less. PROS: Atmosphere - Nice comfortable chairs, clean salon, tvs Conclusion: Overall the salon was clean and has potential to be a really good spot. I think this lady just sucked at her job. I don't like being a Karen and don't leave bad reviews if I don't like something. However this was so bad I don't want anyone to experience what I did.

I went to receive a pedicure this past Tuesday evening and am now on a 7 day treatment for MRSA per my primary care physician. I work at a hospital and already was fearful about the possible risk of infection, despite them using sanitary prepackaged tools they opened in front of me. They literally cut both my big toe nails (curved not square as necessary for pedicures to prevent an infection or ingrown toenail) all the way down into my nail bed and my left foot was bleeding. Not only that but the technician left before I was out of my chair and after requesting only a clear coat asked if I wanted color after he had already cut off a sizable portion of my large toenails. Not only was I not given a refund, but they downplayed the entire situation. They said what do you want us to do? The nail is already gone. They even called me after I left and had them take pictures in an attempt to rectify the situation in some way by offering me to come back in 3 weeks for a free pedicure. To be clear I would NEVER let them touch my feet again. I called the Health Department and they don't even investigate nail salons in the state of Illinois. You have to go through the state to make a report. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, always go to a reputable source that you know keeps updated licenses and truly cares about the health, integrity, sanitation and quality care of your body!!! Had I had a choice I would have gone to Alyssa at Lyss Laid It. Absolutely an unforgivable customer experience. Please save yourself the worry and possibility of infection or something worse and do not frequent this establishment.
