Tasting Trio - Barbarella's Elixir is the Purple one in the Middle
    Jeff M.

Had a great visit up to Medfield and Farthest Star. The brewer/founder was also involved in Massachusetts first Sake brewery, Dovetail, and this time there's a taproom and a bunch of fun new styles. The taproom is conveniently located in the same industrial complex as 7th Wave Brewing. Its BYO-food, and the day of my visit there was a pop up Korean food stall. They also have cheap and good Japanese snacks right be hind the bar, wasabi peas, rice crackers, shrimp flavored chips, all the favorites. The vibe has something of the cafeteria in a warehouse to it, I kinda dig it. It's a perfect match for a takeout pizza from a place like Crisp (about 10 min away), which has great bar pie and all of the ambiance of a gas station donut counter. And for the real purpose of the visit, the sake was very good. They pour a very broad range of styles (something for everyone) leaning toward lighter fruitier types. The favorites on my trip, In a Strange Land, which is their "flagship" Junmai sake. Its flavor is pretty, lightly tropical, dry and clean. And the beautiful Barbarella's Elixir, it's purple hue and flowery candy flavor a result of the Ube sweet potato it's brewed with. Pretty Great Sake A-

Castle Island Brewery - Norwood, MA (Beer & Staff)…read more (Atmosphere) Great Beer Selection Castle Island delivers on what matters most: the beer. From crisp lagers to bold IPAs, the selection is solid, flavorful, and well-crafted. Whether you're a hop head or just looking for something smooth, there's something here for every palate. Friendly Staff The team behind the bar is welcoming, knowledgeable, and quick to offer recommendations. Service is efficient and upbeat, which adds to the overall positive vibe. Kid Overload Unfortunately, the atmosphere takes a hit. At 6:00 pm 8:00, the taproom felt more like a daycare than a brewery. Tables were dominated by birthday parties and families with small children eating cupcakes. While some may appreciate the family-friendly approach, it's jarring for those expecting a classic bar experience. If you're looking for a chill adult night out, this might not be the spot--especially on weekends. Final Thoughts Castle Island has the bones of a great brewery: excellent beer and great staff. But the overwhelming presence of kids makes it hard to relax or socialize. If they offered adult-only hours or designated family times, it could strike a better balance.

The staff really knew their beer selection and were super helpful in guiding us to the perfect drinks. The vibe is perfect for a brewery: projectors, board games, and a welcoming atmosphere that's both family- and dog-friendly. Truly the kind of spot you could spend an entire Sunday enjoying. The food truck outside was also a 10/10 and was able to accommodate to our allergy requests no questions asked!

Told them not sure what time approx 4-4:30, no problem, could be 6-8 people, no problem, we'll need separate checks, no problem We arrived, 7 of us, were seated promptly. Marie was our server and she was awesome. She even took a few pictures of us for the group None of us had been there before and everyone loved their meals. I had the North End pizza with meatballs, herb infused ricotta and basil. Cooked perfectly and very delicious. Others ordered jumbo wings, fish and chips, grilled chicken sandwich and 3 had a salad bowl one with lamb, she said the lamb was one of the best she ever had, another had it with grilled chicken and the third was a Tex-Mex salad bowl Prices are a little high but worth it. I also got the beer flight. I really enjoyed 2 of them but the other 2 were just ok $12 for a flight of 4. I good way to try new flavors without ordering a whole glass and then not liking it We will definitely be back

Chill brewery under 10 minutes from Emerald Square Mall. This place has been on my list for a long…read moretime and when I realized where it was I thought this would be great to check out after a busy afternoon of errands along Route 1. It's located right at the entrance of an industrial area. There is a very small lot for parking but it was completely full when we visited today, so we parked along the road where a number of other cars were also parked. This seemed to be okay and the signs just requested folks not park on the grass. The entrance is set back from the street so you kind of need to go around towards the back. We saw they had a food truck, Farm to Sandwich, which although kind of pricey, was super delicious. We both got the All American Smash burger with fries. Fries were so crisp and well crafted and the burger was amazing with a great sauce reminiscent of a Big Mac. For beers, since it was our first time here, we decided to try a bit of everything with flights. Their flights are $13 for 4, 5 oz pours. I chose the Coffee Milk Stout, You are Such an Ass, Bienvenu and Justin's Jangle. We started which the You are Such an Ass IPA, which was described as a light IPA but really didn't taste like an IPA at all. We honestly thought they had poured us the wrong beer. As IPA enthusiasts, this was disappointing. The Bienvenu, which is a Red Ale with Panela (unrefined Colombian sugar cane) was infinitely better. The Coffee Milk Stout, I understand is very popular, but I thought this was average. Justin's Jangle, a Maple Praline Porter was my favorite! Really nice, complex brew! We also really enjoyed the live music from Jake Frezza, a local musician out of North Providence. He sang and played guitar and covered a diverse sampling of songs including Brittney Spears (Toxic), James Taylor and Marvin Gaye. His version of "What's Going On" was particularly excellent. I normally dread listening to live performers at breweries but this guy is actually very talented! Kudos to Ravenous for engaging such a high quality musician! Also, for a Saturday, it was not overcrowded or over run with kids. There was just one family with a super quiet baby and we noted just one dog inside. On exiting, I saw they have a nice memorial where they offer to pour a beer to a fallen service member. Very nice! Gender neutral restrooms Pinball Separate rooms make it quieter than breweries in just one big industrial space. Friendly service at the bar and no lines! Bar stools with no back, kind of uncomfortable and there seemed to be no other seating options like chairs or sofas. In summary: Highlights: Bienvenu Red Ale Justin's Jangle Jake Frezza live music Nice memorial to fallen soldiers Low Lights: You are Such an Ass IPA Barstools/ seating Would definitely stop back here again when in the area!

In fact, its mediocrity has kept me from ever visiting their brewpubs. My mistake! The beer here at the brewery, particularly some of the drafts are very well executed and deserve some mention, specifically their chocolate truffle Baltic porter. Not too sweet, fairly light bodied and perfectly flavored. Their New England hazies and even the dry Irish stout are all very well done and left me wanting to try some more. Most importantly, if you find yourself at patriot place wormtown, you must seek out Brian the bartender. Amazing personality, attentive, kind and really knows about the beers. He really made my visit even more enjoyable. I ended up having the barbacoa sliders and stupidly didn't take a pic. They honestly weren't really much to look at but the flavor was spot on. The meat was tender and the pickled onions added a nice texture. The facility itself is open and spacious with plenty of outdoor seating if that's your thing. We went on a Saturday to find love music, which was an entertaining plus! Considering we were going for a brewery, we found the food options perfect for snacking or enjoying a casual dinner. Beer options on tap were of a wide variety, with us trying both sours. The fresh tart was overpowered by the Meyers lemon with none of the guava profile pulling through. The Morse was a fairly crushable cranberry "sour" that was well balanced if you needed to finish quickly as we did. Service was good with table service for the beer and food. They do payments at the table which is very convenient but did notice they're defaulted to 30% gratuity so just be aware for adjusting based on your experience if needed.

She eventually acknowledged the mistake but did not apologize for the error or her tone. Overall, the service was rude and disappointing, and I would not return.
