I was traveling through visiting family. I had a water leak in my RV and attempted to fix it myself. After an unsuccessful attempt I went into Farrs Hardware and discussed my issue with Jordan. Jordan explained how to fix my issue but it involved the purchase of an expensive tool. After showing me how to fix my problem, Jordan told me if I buy the parts and tool he would allow me to return the tool for a full refund. I made my purchase and my leak was resolved and I was allowed to return the tool for a full refund. I will recommend this store to all my friends and family. read more

Had a leaking washing machine in the house we had just bought, so I called Coos Bay Farr's to arrange a visit from their appliance technician. Randy fixed the problem immediately, then took a look at our dishwasher, which had displeased the house inspector with its funny noises. Randy took a look, then showed me the drain, clogged with hair (how the heck do you get that much hair in a dishwasher?!). He explained that bad drainage could cause cavitation, and that would make obnoxious noises. His solution, clean out as much hair as possible, then run the machine with dish soap. That has worked out, and all done for the minimum charge. Add polite and articulate, and it's an easy five star visit. read more

Best hardware ever!!-and we've lived all over the country in small towns & large cities. They have so much more than a regular hardware store. And then great goodies for in the house-kitchenware, pots & pans, baking, and etc! Then cute kitchen gadgets & supplies too. And the outdoor gear is great too. Great for gifts too! We have bought tons of things including a Traeger pellet BBQ & cover that we had them out together. It was great! The staff is amazing, and the store clean and well organized. My family has done business with the Farr family at their two stores for decades. Our first call with a water issue was in 1972 in Greenacres. They are always prompt, kind and considerate, and efficient. They stand behind their work and will fix it if something isn't right. As I write this, I am waiting for their "well guy" to arrive to cure our sick system. Later: Jack just left. The system works, we have water! Being new in town (from California--oh, the horror!) and having an old home that needs plenty of TLC, my MANY and frequent experience(s) with this place and with their employees have been nothing but great! The attentiveness and friendliness of staff is exemplary and I find the selection to be above par compared with most hardware stores of their size. I'm a huge advocate of supporting local businesses (and loathe the big box chains) even if it means paying a little more although I find Farr's IS competitive with others. They will continue to get my business unless of course, they simply don't HAVE what I'm looking for. And then it's off to Roseburg. read more

I purchased a brand new refrigerator and found it had no interior light upon delivery. After 3 attempts to repair it by a local "expert" and 8 weeks of waiting for a variety of parts (none of which ended up being the problem), I was recommended to contact Randy at Farr's Hardware. I was told "Randy can fix anything" and, guess what? They were right. He arrived on time for the appointment ~ cheerful and polite. True to the recommendation, Randy diagnosed the 'frig light problem in less than 5 minutes and the problem was fixed. The difference between Randy and the "other expert" was like night and day. Randy is extremely professional, bright and customers will know they are in very capable hands. A friendly, knowledgeable man who takes pride in his work and resolving problems. The one and only stand up quality this place has is the free popcorn you get on the way out. I think its supposed to create that cozy small town feel. If by small town you think ignorant service this is the place to come. If you have a question ask any and every employee and you'll have a different answer every time. And I really don't believe any employee in there is doing more than wishing they were home. I once went to a manager after the guy who was mixing paint took the people behind me (who had a huge order) first, even though I had waited my time patiently in line (while holding a baby). Instead of even getting a meaningless apology, the manager told me that if I didn't like it then there was nothing he could do, and that maybe if I had smiled at the paint guy I would have been waited on. If you live in Oregon's Bay Area and don't shop Farr's... something is dreadfully wrong! This is as "local" as "local" gets. Family owned and operated for umpteen bajillion years, Farr's is definitely a good, local hardware store. Chances are... if you're seriously looking for it, and can't find it elsewhere, Farr's will have it! Though pricing sometimes seems high, they run great specials, and mostly you can just find what you need. That alone makes this a wonderful store. The Farr family supports our community in most any way a local business can -even down to their cornball commercials on local TV. Annoying and entirely too "local" making them look far more unprofessional than they really are... Farr's is still a great store. Trustworthy, supportive, and full service! What else do you need when folks are screaming "buy local"? It's one of the few local places you can likely find that certain little item you haven't found elsewhere. No need to go online... before you go to Farr's. Holidays are especially memorable for shopping Farr's. In the windy, rainy and sometimes cold days of winter, you're likely to find a nice tall pot of steaming hot cider as you walk in the door, and always... the popcorn is ready and waiting for Farr's customers. I rarely give 5 stars to anything. However, I feel like they deserve it! I sent an email asking for help with a screen door we were having trouble with. I received an answer very quickly, and, on the weekend. That shows great customer service! We drove our screen door to the store and found Josh. He was awesome! Came out to our car and fixed it right there!!! We are from out of town, here helping our elderly parents move into assisted living and this was the easiest thing we have had to do since our arrival. We recently used Farr's for service to our Natural Gas Fireplace. The technician was on sight for an hour and fixed the problem with no parts replaced. We received the invoice the next week and were shocked at the amount that was charged. The amount was $204.00 ($120.00 for labor and $80 for callout). We live about 2 miles from the store. My husband contacted Jay and he said he would look into it and get back to him. He called him a couple days later and said that is what he was going to charge. We had previously used another local company and they only charged $90.00 and were there for over two hours. So beware and make sure you ask up front what they are going to charge. We will not patronize this business again. read more

Unfriendly Service/Good Selections My husband and I don't go to Farr's except as a last resort. The staff is generally knowledgeable and helpful with the exception of the ladies at the check out register. They generally seem to have a bad attitude and act like you are intruding on their time. I honestly have never seen one of them actually smile. Lighten up ladies. Before Ace came to town and my husband & I were building our home, we made MANY trips to Farr's and I tried every which way to try and be nice to them and always came away disappointed. Whoever is responsible for training and/or supervising the staff is falling down on the job. If you want to be treated like a VIP-go to Ace Hardware. My name is Roland Miranda and in February of this year, 2012, I participated in True Value's "One Big Rebate Event". held by Farr's True Value Hardware Store. I completed the correct forms, verified the products 12 digit UPC code on the company's website, and submitted the necessary proof of purchase, and as of this date, 6-23-2012, have not recieved my rebate. I purchased in good faith products from the store and expected to receive the rebate in a timely and business-like manner. The promotional agreement has not been honored and this seems to indicate a lack of care for customers by True Value Hardware. I have contacted the local manager and have registered my complaint, but this should not have been necesary. Buyer Beware. Today 11/6/18 11:50 am, is the LAST TIME I will ever shop at Farr's in Coos Bay, and I've been shopping there for a long time because they usually have what I need even when the service declined in the past year or so that I've noticed... In the past I would usually shop there at least 3 to 5 times a month sometimes more for little items, and rarely spend 'less than' $35.00 per visit, and frequently more than $100.00 especially when buying supplies for my Shop Wood Stove, (Bricks/R-Logs etc.) Pellet Stove and other Supplies for our Home & Business... In the past year or so when I see 6 to 12 vehicles in the parking lot I bypass Farr's and go to ACE, Perry's, Cascade or Bi-Mart... In doing so I've learned that Farr's prices are Higher, sometimes Much Higher, (on most items, the same on only 'some' items) than ACE Hardware, Perry's, Cascade or Bi-Mart... Today a Woman Cashier, (my 2nd. bad experience w/her) was quite rude, acted like she didn't want to be bothered with my question, called for some floor help on isle 33, I waited for 11 mins. the help never showed up, I didn't want to deal with the rude Cashier again so I left my 1/2 full shopping cart by the, (unmanned) paint counter and walked out, this is the 3rd. time in the past year I've left merchandise in a shopping cart, and left, this is strike three, you're OUT...That being said, the Employees at the counter in the back under the offices, (Polite, VERY Knowledgeable & VERY Helpful) and on the warehouse loading ramp & the floor help at the rear of Farr's ALL get a 5 Star Rating from me... I think Farr's Management is completely out of touch, (have been for too long) with the 'service' & 'competitive pricing' end of the Retail Hardware Business... The Cashier's are usually the first & the last employees the customer has contact with when shopping at Farr's, they 'also' represent the Business... In the Retail Business, NEVER make a customer wait 'IN THE STORE' for an 'unreasonable' amount of time to pay for their merchandise, THEY'RE 'DONE' SHOPPING, they wanna pay & leave, not wait in a long line while the ONLY Cashier is Rude and ALSO ANSWERING THE PHONE!! BTW, because of MY overall experiences shopping at Farr's, I don't believe for a moment the 4 & 5 Star reviews I've read, IMO they're FAKE, PR Propaganda... And this is the first time I've even looked at Farr's reviews...If it wasn't for Farr's poor Cashier service, I would 'never have learned' about their 'Higher Prices' Over All, compared to their competitors like ACE Hardware, Perry's, Cascade or Bi-Mart... I've been a customer since I was old enough to walk the 9 blocks to get there by myself, meaning 50+ years. My favorite store in town. There's no turn over in employees and they've all been there for many years. If you can't find something, anyone there can tell you which aisle or take you there to assist. Great advice and friendly people. I read a negative comment where a customer had an issue when making a tiny purchase with a debit card. It costs the stores money to process transactions, so at a certain point then lose their entire profit on a small purchase. Hey, buy a mint and get yourself a few cents past the minimum. ;) The store manager even pulled money from his own pocket to help make the customer happy and eliminate the issue....... ya can't please everyone I guess. read more

When it comes to a hardware store they have a lot of stuff, but when it comes to service they are lacking.. I built a custom Log home and was using them for a bunch of my supplies. I bought 7 pieces of like 5' double walled polished pipe for a fireplace (which is what they told me I needed) ordered it , got it and as it turns out that I couldnt use all this pipe. They said ooo yeah you can make bends in the pipe, inspector says NOOoo. So I went to take back the pipe which was like 125$ a piece (4 pieces to return)and they said no we dont want it back and just said bye. They didnt give me the money back and I dont shop with them anymore!!! If your going to spend a large amount of money with a hardware store, spend it with a real hardware store like Umqua Hardware in Reedsport ask for Ed. He's the Best by far!!! read more

I had all my measurements to find a simple cap for our stove pipe. First trip in had to wait until someone was available and then they sent me home with the wrong sized cap. Returned in half an hour, had to wait forever for help and then they made sure that I knew that I was wasting their time. Check out was good but customer assistance is rotten. read more

Hey~~~ What's the fuss/ I'm a Coos County native in more than one way. Have enjoyed shopping at Coos Bay FARR's most of my adult life and never found the experience anything but pleasant. They manage to carry a remarkably diverse inventory. The personnel are very knowledgeable in their various areas of expertise. AND, they have always been game to help explain and suggest when I'm in a quandary. And I observe, too, their assistance with other customers who usually seem pleased with the assistance they are receiving. Try to bear in mind, this is a rather small community. Hometown retail businesses are kept alive and healthy as we who live and work hard here patronize them. Supporting local businesses KEEPS the REVENUE LOCAL, while further offering stable employment. Pay a bit more for some items, undoubtedly. But for me, would rather that than throw hard-earned wages down a vortex. And I receive first rate products that I can rely on to be sound and well-built. And before you make any assumption, NO, I AM NOT "WELL TO DO"! My income is modest indeed! Just try to choose carefully how it will be spent. So, Peace, folks. Well I was officially disappointed today. I had purchased a multiple of items yesterday and forgot to get 4 small screws. So I went back this morning to get them. $.23 ea. So my purchase was $.92 I DIDN'T HAVE CASH. They would not let me purchase them with my debit card due to the total purchase must be $2.00. I did not know this company was this petty/cheep. No signs posted about min debit/credit purchase. The manager still would not let me purchase it. He did pull a dollar out of his pocket and payed for it. Now at this point I'm not just mad but embarrassed with the line of people watching as if I was trying to scam or beg. I have been to other store that do the same min purchase shit and have pushed the items to the cashier and said no thanks I don't purchase items from stores that can't afford to do business. So a word to you Mr. Farrs that one time issue, that extra $.98 you tried to squeeze out of me lost you my business. Hundreds and even thousands of dollars. I don't put up with tight wads. read more

No help, rude, unprofessional and way over priced. I went in and asked for help concerning a certain item. The woman at the check stand told me which isle and called over the intercom for customer service at that isle. I stood there waiting for ages. I could see 3 different employees standing and talking and joking with someone else. They occasionally looked over and then would lower their voices then more laughing and glances my way. As a young woman who was modestly dressed I really didn't appreciate any of it. After about 10 minutes of this with no one coming to help me but several certainly noticing but to busy either having fun or making fun I was done. I left the store without getting the asked for help, without the item I needed and feeling a bit made fun of. The few times I have been in there its never been a good experience. A few times I got what I needed at outrageously high prices for what the item was. I now prefer shopping at ACE hardware where they are helpful and nice. If I can't get it at ACE then I check online because Farr's is far worse then subpar... read more
