When I walked into the restaurant, I was completely ignored by a young blonde employee named Claudia who was standing behind the counter in the waiting area. She looked directly at me and continued what she was doing without so much as a greeting or an acknowledgment. A simple, "Good morning, someone will be right with you," would have gone a long way. Since no one else was in the lobby and I noticed a clipboard on the counter, I politely asked if there was a waitlist. Claudia responded with an attitude that she "wasn't the hostess." I calmly asked where the hostess was, and she simply replied that she was clearing tables. There was no offer to help, no explanation of the process, and no attempt to assist me. She continued interacting with other staff members while I stood there feeling like an inconvenience. Thankfully, another employee who appeared to be a waiter noticed me. He immediately picked up the same clipboard that had been sitting on the counter, took my name and phone number with a cheerful attitude, and let me know it would be about a 15-minute wait. His professionalism completely contrasted with the poor customer service I had just experienced. Once seated, our waiter was personable, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was also very good. I ordered the Chicken Sausage Scramble with hash browns, and it was delicious. My friend ordered the Catfish and Grits and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. The food and our waiter helped redeem the experience, but first impressions matter. Management should ensure that every employee understands that providing basic courtesy and hospitality is everyone's responsibility, not just the hostess's. Even if greeting guests or managing the waitlist wasn't Claudia's primary role, there was no excuse for being dismissive or rude to someone walking through your front door. Alpharetta has no shortage of excellent brunch spots with both great food and outstanding customer service. Sadly, because of the way I was treated before I was even seated, I won't be returning to The Southern Porch. I also won't feel comfortable recommending it to friends or family. It's disappointing because the kitchen and our waiter did their jobs well, but one employee's attitude overshadowed what could have been an otherwise enjoyable brunch.

Well that is kind of what it was. I didn't expect it to be cold. I thought this would be a hot dish and it didn't specify on the menu that it was not a hot dish. The chicken came out hot, very crispy skin, and juicy meat. There was a little flakes sought on top, but overall, I would say the chicken itself laced seasoning. Again, everything else on it was pretty solid. It just needed some salt and seasoning into it to really take it to that next level. The macaroni was pretty much macaroni. Not too much wow factor behind it pretty standard. It came out hot though wasn't anything super impressive. Now the field peas. That was kind of one of the items I was super excited about but again, maybe I misread the menu. I guess I had the expectation of almost like a hot fall bean dish or something like that but again it came out refrigerator cold. I didn't notice anywhere on the menu where that said it was a cold this nor was it mentioned at the time of ordering that that was a cold dish. With that said the peas were also pretty too some, and if I was to order the dishes I would definitely try to request that it was served hot and again, just a little bit of extra salt. Now off to the dessert. The banana pudding! This is another item. I was super excited about. The overall presentation was nice, The pudding itself was tasty, and the banana on top was perfect. That's kind of where the positive stops here. The banana they used inside the dish was so unripe that it tasted like a little rock inside. It was almost like they used a piece of plantain that was still green. It really kind of ruined the whole dish You know it's really sad because the things here that were great were really great but the things that were bad were really bad. I think the atmosphere is wonderful. I think the service was decent. I just think there's some clarity that should be made and just for a personal preference minor tweaks that could really send this over the top. Maybe the time they took off during the remodel had things a little bumpy on their first Monday night back.
