    Produce section
    Cindy D.

This is a really great grocery store that I wish was closer to where I live. If you have ever been to Trader Joes and Wegmans Grocery in Buffalo, this is kind of like those two got together and had a baby. I would probably rate it 5 stars if they had a bit more selection in some of the non-fresh food areas. They have a great produce section with lots of organic, but also lots of affordable options for those of those who prefer to be more frugal. I was surprised at how good a buy some of their produce was. They specialize in local produce, meat, and fish, so you can get lots of really fresh things along with the usual stuff that comes packed from far away. The butcher section is really good and has some nice weekly specials. Their chipotle lime schnitzel is delicious. A good third of the store is devoted to fresh prepared food, with a sushi counter, pizza counter, deli, sandwich counter, bakery, hot and cold food bars. There is also a large cheese section in this area along with the frozen food and dairy section. They do have a place to eat in if you want to buy a meal and sit to eat. Their croissants are really good and only $2.99 for a package of 6. I would go more often if it was closer, but I am trying to find reasons to go way out in east Whitby on Taunton Road,

    Beer selection.

Love Farm Boy. Sadly I don't get here very often as they are not close to my home. I go only if I am in the area.

I used to drop by Ajax practically every weekend. I stopped doing it for a couple of years, but I…read morerecently revisited what I used to do. Instead, I drop by once a month. When I am in Ajax, I pass by the Real Canadian Superstore often. Shockingly, I had never been in the store until yesterday. My dear friend and I like Joe Fresh. We decided to drop by and check out what this supermarket has to offer. It's a large, typical Real Canadian Superstore. We found the Joe Fresh area and browsed. She was there to look at pants and jeans. I love the selection in this section, especially the loungewear. I like coming to this store to check out nail polish. I haven't given the Joe Fresh brand a try. One of these days, I will give it a shot. There is a huge assortment of gift cards. I have never seen anything like it. I also loved that you can get the lowest price on M&M's chocolate bars. I was happy. The produce is fresh. I also love the bakery. There was plenty of parking here, even with the extra gardening section that blocked up part of it. I will need to visit this store more often. It's tough when you have this store and a decent Sobey's roughly a block away. (177)

This is a big, bright beautiful store, with logically organized aisles (I hate it when they label a…read more"cookies" aisle, but not one for crackers - Real Canadian labels them both!). Their seafood section, deli and meat section always features very fresh products. Anything that isn't is sold for discount. If you want to buy deli meat, I recommend buying it from the actually deli counter. The lower cost will save you money. The lack of packaging will save the environment. Win-win, I call it! I bought $5 of parma prosciutto at the deli counter, and the same product would have cost $10 from the fridge case. They have a wide selection of foods from various cultures and cuisines, in addition to books, magazines, clothing and household items. You could do pretty much anything here except auto repairs! There is even a wine store in there. If you want one-stop shopping, then this is the place to go!

I did a search and found Real Canadian Superstore close by. I decided to drop in. There are a bunch of box stores in this area. Proceed with caution through the parking lot, as it has traffic coming from all sorts of directions that can make you go crazy. My introduction to Real Canadian Superstore was in Winnipeg. I loved how huge and different it was back then. I used to get these humongous muffins in a six-pack. I didn't have a car back then, so I would lug them on the bus with my groceries as if my life depended on them. I don't have one close by me, so it was nice to visit this store. It's a big store. The cosmetics and Joe Fresh sections greeted me when I walked in. I loved the nail polish selection and spring clothes that were being featured. This store has decent choices for this borderline lactose-intolerant person. I got Daiya key lime cheezecake, which is perfectly tart and delicious. It looks small, but it is dense and takes just like real cheesecake. I also got Silk yogurt made with coconut milk. I have never seen or tried a coconut-based yogurt until now. I love options! I have a thing for beets. I found beets in the form of chips. They are good and have the beet flavour that I crave. If the salt could be reduced by half, they would be absolutely perfect. The best part of my visit was going down one of the healthy food aisles and singing along to Easy Like Sunday Morning by the Commodores. A woman stocking the shelves in my aisle starting singing along. A male shopper came over and sang. It felt like being in choir again. I loved the energy! I headed to the checkout. The wait wasn't bad. I used my gift card, shelled out a bit more for the difference, and headed to my car happy with my purchases. I hope to come back here again when I'm in Whitby. (94)

I was mesmerized by the bakery section. I wanted every single cake, but I looked at the custard tarts and got them instead. The croissants looked so fresh and yummy. If I could live in this section, I would. I would also end up being too large to get out of the store. I bought these frozen brussel sprouts that come with butter sauce. I haven't tried them, but it sounded good to me. As with Longo's, the produce is exceptionally fresh and beautifully arranged. It's like going into an arboretum, but without paying for any admission fee. I got my pack of bacon. This place has sodium-reduced bacon, which made me so happy. It was also on sale for $4.99. The hot foods section smelled so good. I stood there for a minute looking at everything and wanted to eat, even though I just did. I had a cheerful, pretty pregnant cashier check me out. She was so polite and nice. I swiped my rewards card. I am close to getting a discount, but it does take a while to get there. This grocery store has an elevator to the top floor, where there are more places to sit down and eat. There is a Starbucks on the main floor, and an area to sit down and relax, too. You can use your rewards card at Starbucks, too. It's a nice, clean grocery store. There is plenty of parking. I like it. (109)
