We were here when we lived in Dartmouth in 2009 and it was very good food. We moved away for 6 years and are now back so thought we would stop in for Dim Sum on Sunday. We were very disappointed in the quality of the food offered. They don't push carts of dim sum around for you to choose from, instead you fill out an order sheet and it is made fresh. Great idea but a much slower process. The Squid Lips ( we had to order to see just what was coming out) were only small ends and parts of squid left from the Deep Fried Squid. It was cooked in very old oil that was not hot enough so the outside was overdone and the inside was doughy. Horrible! The Special Fried Rice dish was tasteless with a poor showing of ingredients other then rice. Not a pleasant experience for our 1st time back. I don't feel the need to make a 2nd. read more

Fan's lunch specials are always great. I am a fan of Fan's. Wish they had more lunch specials though, they only have a few combo's to choose from. Their chicken balls are not the cookie cutter kind - they are handmade (I'm assuming) in all different kinds of shapes and the batter is very light. The fried rice with the combo's is always yummy. You get a lot of veggies with the combo, with they would add a few more baby corn. read more

I love their seaweed soup there So flavorful. I guess that makes up for the terrible won ton soup. The broth was the best part and that's almost an overstatement. The wontons themselves were bland. The one (and only) huge chunk of broccoli that I had to cut first to be able to scoop up was as unappetizing as the big leaf they left on it. Very disappointed with this soup. Save yourself time and go to Canton Garden ininstead. Everything is great there, but especially the won ton soup. read more

We returned recently after a long hiatus, and were completely pleased with our meal. Everything was delicious and tasted like the food I had missed on previous visits. It will be back in the rotation! read more

I've eaten there every week for the past two months, and every time the cook comes out and gives me an extra egg roll for being so loyal. The general tao's chicken is amazing when it's extra spicy and I get four orders each time!! Quality food. read more

Four of us went to Fan's today for DimSum. We were out to celebrate Father's Day, and since our wives our Chinese, we thought this would be the perfect place. Well, it was a disaster! First, although we acknowledge it was busy due to Father's Day, we waited for an hour before our first DimSum was brought to the table after ordering. Although the dishes ordered were hot dishes, they arrived like they were taken out of a fridge and given to us immediately. Over the next hour, we waited for the remaining dishes to be served, but none came. Finally, we managed to "catch" a waitress, who admitted they forgot about them, and would we like to order them again. Seeing that another hour was too long, we politely said no. Then came the kicker! THEIR server who was carrying a huge jug of milk stumbled and the entire jug of milk spilled on our table. Everything was soaked in milk, including all our clothes, our food and my hair. It looked like we had peed ourselves, and our shirts were drenched with milk. Not only was no one informed, no one offered any sort of apology or discount. When I spoke with manager upon leaving, only after considerable debate and haggle did she "agree" to give us a 10% discount, even going so far as to saying "it's only milk". WOW! Any decent restaurant would have given that meal for free, acknowledging that the disaster was their fault. But it wasn't the money that mattered, it was the unprofessional, demeaning and thoroughly disgusting way they treat people. We will never go there again! read more

Very surprising to find such good chinese food in a shopping centre. Fans lived up to the yelp reviews - not gourmet level but very good.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn hotel across the street from Fan's and since we were tourists we asked the desk clerk where we could eat. He recommended a bar down the street but when we got there the restaurant was closed. We had noticed Fan's on our walk so we decided to try it instead. Being San Francisco natives we had tempered our expectations but the food was excellent. We ordered a couple standards (Singapore Noodles and Beef with Broccoli) to be able to assess the quality. We were not disappointed. We asked if the chef could substitute Chinese broccoli (gai lan) for standard broccoli and the server did not miss a beat in customizing our order. Four stars for the food, and one additional star because there was a saffron-robed Buddhist monk eating there. Always a good sign and a blessing! read more

I always order from the Chinese menu and ask the chef to cook it Hong Kong style. I'm used to and appreciate the asian style service which is fast, efficient, and less chatty. Good menu for dim sum. I'd like to go there because they offer Canadian style chinese food which some of my friends can have when they are not familiar with the traditional chinese food which I will always enjoy having. read more

came here with the family for dim sum. the taro roll and loboko (pan fried turnip cake) were good and fresh but the shanghai noodles were horrible. the noodles were colorless and looked dead as if they were left in the cold for an entire winter. the beef tripe and chicken feet were undercooked resulting in tough and chewy meat. the siu mai was wasn't great, it looked colorless and tasted oily. the lai wong bao was dry and had a thick layer. it was generic and tasted like it had been purchased frozen previously. overall was pretty mediocre. left feeling sad because this is all halifax has to offer. also feeling slightly sick due to the copious amounts of oil. would not come back. read more
