I have been driving to San Jose every two weeks to get my nails done with my own polish and for some reason the polish keeps lifting leaving me with sad nails and a trip back to San Jose from Santa Cruz Mountains. I found Fancy Nails and decided to try, well today I requested Sonya at Fancy Nails and she suggested something different for me with straight dipping with color. All I can say is, She (Sonya) did an outstanding job for my nails with no lights used. If you want a great job done and fast too, make an appointment with her. I will go back from now on as she did the best job with my nails and was very there for me and answered all my questions as I was a little concerned. No worries. I called ahead and made an appointment so they knew to expect me. When I called for a 6:30pm appointment they were irritated that I was coming in "late" but their hours are til listed 7, and the woman on the phone said they took their last appointment at 6:30, which I then booked. I asked, "Are you sure? I can come another day." She said, "Our last appointment time is 6:30. Just be here on time". I arrived on time at 6:25pm and was done by 7 o'clock. I tipped $20 on a $30 pedicure because I felt bad about keeping her there "late" even though I left at 7:02. On my way out, someone yelled after me, "Come earlier next time!" They close at 7:00! And I was in my car at 7:03. It is now 10:30pm and all of my nail polish is gone. Like wiped off. Never dried at all. It feels like I was punished for coming in "late". It seems like I was given gel polish (which I said NO to) and then it wiped off because it was never cured? I don't know. Next time when I ask if it's OK to take your last appointment THAT YOU OFFERED during your actual business hours just say no or change your hours. read more

So disappointed. I've been going to Fancy Nails for a long time with no complaints and had the worst experience this evening. I tried dip nails for the first time this evening. First, the nail tech filed my nails down uncomfortably short. As the process began, I wasn't sure I liked how they were turning out because they seemed bulky. When I voiced my concern she told me they would look natural by the time she was done. When she was halfway through, she asked me if I liked them and I honestly said "not really" and explained why. She got very upset with me (raising her voice and telling me I was a difficult customer) and proceeded to ask the other nail technicians to look at them. All of them were telling me I was wrong and they looked good. I asked the nail technician her name and if I could talk to a manager. She said she didn't work there, there was no manager and she had no name. I then "argued" with her and she finally yelled that her name was "Jennifer". Another nail technician walked over and told me she was the manager and that if I was refusing to pay (which was never even said) they would need to remove the polish. Jennifer started aggressively filing my nails and soaking them off. During this time she proceeded to tell me how I was "difficult and she has never seen a customer like me". When it was time to pay (I also got a pedicure which I had absolutely no issues with), I said I would be paying but before I did I wanted to speak to a manager. They told me if I didn't pay, they would call the police. I sat down in the waiting area and said that they could call the police but I was not refusing to pay. I just wanted to talk to the manager about my experience. They finally gave me a cellphone number to call. While on the phone with the manager, the nail technicians proceeded to walk to other customers in the pedicure chairs and pointed at me and talked about me. At this point I was so upset with the harassment and didn't want to cry so I hung up the phone, paid and left. The manager then sent me a text message apologizing and blaming this incident on a language barrier and a stressful day. All I have to say is we all have stressful days but using this as an excuse for their behavior is unacceptable. We shouldn't be treating people this way. Unfortunately an experience that should be relaxing and non confrontational turned into something I would have never expected or prepared for. I hope that management sees this and really takes this into consideration when it comes to employee training and what you want your business to reflect. This place is so deceiving from the outside! You walk in and it's a huge salon. This first things I noticed were the condition of the massage chairs for pedicures-- PRISTINE! This place was so clean, spacious, and actually RELAXING. My best friend and I were able to SIT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. This is something we could never manage at other Scotts Valley salons... they were way too crowded and busy. For once I didn't feel like cattle being herded in and out. JENNIFER was our manicurist and she was amazing! She gave us both immaculate DIP MANICURES. She even explained to us how she shaped the nails with the dip and she wasn't rushed. Fancy Nails came recommended by a few Scott's Valley locals. I have been getting manicures and pedicures at another location for years but was looking for something closer to home. To date I have been to Fancy Nails three times and if you look at the picture below, difficult to see the extent of the damage to my nails but hopefully you will get the picture, it's apparent why I am so angry that I went to Fancy Nails and then paid for them to destroy my nails. My friends who recommended Fancy Nails get the dip which I wanted to try. The first time I went in I enjoyed my experience and received a quality pedicure and dip manicure. The dip manicure lasted for about two weeks then started to crack which i guess is typical. Unfortunately this is where the positive experience ends. The next time I went to Fancy Nails I asked for a pedicure and to have my dip redone. The woman doing the pedicure finished and I had asked for the same woman who had done my previous dip to redo my nails. I had to wait for the manicure which was fine because I knew she would do a good job. Something apparently transpired between the two co workers and they started yelling at each other, it escalated to the point where the woman who did my pedicure started poking the woman who was now in the process of doing my manicure. Unfortunately I did not know what they were saying but since non verbal language which includes voice volume and expressions were heated I felt extremely uncomfortable. I went back two weeks later to have the dip removed. I researched other locations but none of them had better reviews and the salon I had frequented previously does not do the dip. Unfortunately I did not realize that my previous salon could have removed the product. At Fancy Nails I had the same woman who had previously yelled at the woman doing my dip. I was too scared to ask for someone else and when I tried to communicate my fears no one understood what I was saying. Rather than sanding, putting acetone on cotton over the nail then tinfoil, this women had me put my entire hand in a bowl of acetone, which did end up splashing onto my pants, then proceeded to sand with an electric sander the dip. She had me do this process numerous times to the point where my once healthy nails were then paper thin and painful. I again attempted to communicate my discomfort but was told that next time "I do gel". I then dutifully paid for my destroyed nails $35 and obtained a stamp on my customer card. They should have paid me. It's been two weeks since this happened. I wish I would have taken a picture immediately after the manicure but I was too angry to do so. My nails have ridges, sand marks, are paper thin, keep breaking and now new nail is growing at the base of the nail which shows just exactly how much healthy nail they had removed. I spoke with my friends who referred me to Fancy Nails and they were horrified. They said that the only person they will go to now, because of similar issues, is the owner Jennifer. My suggestion is to simply find another location that offers better service. read more

Disappointed with my experience here. I asked the nail tech to correct the shape of my nails since she filed them crooked on a portion of my nails and gave the stereotypical excuse of, "your fingers are crooked" and gave a poor attempt to correct it. I also started bleeding as she removed a nail that she deemed "bad" which didn't need to be removed. Unfortunately she used some of her nail tools to attempt to stop the bleeding which is completely unhygienic, did not use an alcohol swab on me and then used nail glue on the wound and touched the tip to my wound! I also didn't see her clean to tools afterward. I was completely grossed out. Unfortunately she also couldn't get the pricing correct. The board stated for a full set of acrylic with gel nail polish and she ended up charging me a couple dollars more for "broken nails" even though I was getting a full set and those nails didn't need to be removed. Lastly, the acrylic started chipping about 1 week into it. Despite all of this, I won't return due to their disgustingly poor hygienic practices. read more

I had the most amazing experience with these ladies. I got a manicure and pedicure at the same time. They massaged my arms and legs and hands and feet for soooo long, they were sweet and gentle and the polish was pristine. I have never had a better nail experience than the one I had today. I wish I had better things to say about this nail salon, but unfortunately, I didn't have a great experience. I met two friends to get our nails done because this place was central for all of us, and we thought we'd give it a try. I'm giving Fancy Nails two stars because they were initially accommodating when we needed to push back our appointment time at the last minute, and I really appreciated their flexibility. However, the overall service/mani-pedi experience was less than satisfactory. The woman who did my nails had an unpleasant, unhappy demeanor and she was constantly telling me to "make my hand straighter" or "stop moving". I really was doing the best I could to be careful. She made me feel very uncomfortable and I had a hard time enjoying myself. On top of that, she gave me one of the worst manicures/pedicures I've ever had. I honestly should have said something during the appointment, but I didn't want to cause a scene or embarrass her. I just kept hoping it would get better and I would leave happy. The issues I have with the experience are: Gel Manicure -she was very hurried and not gentle when cutting my cuticles -she left polish on my fingers/cuticles and didn't bother to clean it up (see pictures) -she didn't paint the entire nail, leaving at least one side of most nails unpainted (see pictures) Regular Pedicure: -she cut and filed my nails too close to the quick so they're very sore and feel raw (see pictures) -she cut some nails unevenly/at odd angles -she wasn't careful when using the clippers on my cuticles and made the cuticle beds and the skin on the side of my big toes bleed a little -she didn't paint the entire nail on my big toes, just like with the manicure (see pictures) [I had to wear close-toed shoes later in the day so the top of the nail is a little squished, and that isn't her fault] Overall, the quality of the manicure and pedicure was poor and not worth the $44 I paid in total. Then, I went to leave the tip (she honestly didn't really deserve a tip, and that's not something I would ever say casually), and when I put the $5 I was willing to give her on the counter, she gave me an angry look, and I felt very uncomfortable again. I gave her two extra dollars to pacify the situation, but I wish I had just left. My friends also weren't very impressed with their nails, although their nail techs were much more pleasant than mine. I won't be going back, and unfortunately, I won't recommend this salon to anyone else. read more

I've been here several times. It's always just okay. Today was by far the worst. That gal that did my nails just didn't seem to taKe the time to do a great job. I got gel nails and typically they will clean off excess polish with a nail brush and acetone before they cure it with the UV light. This gal did not do that at all. Instead at the end once everything was all cured and dry she started picking up the excess nail polish with cuticle trimmer's! Literally trimming off my skin to fix the polish. Needless to say my fingers hurt and my nails don't look great. I will not be going back. read more

Disappointing experience. My 16 year old asked for tips and was talked out of them ("Your nails would look better natural,") and was almost in tears when she saw the results. I asked for them to re-done and specifically stated that I was fine paying for a second go. The tech, Tammy, yelled loudly "That's what she said she wanted, she wanted that, she is happy." All of this made my teen horribly uncomfortable. After about 10 minutes of very unprofessional back and forth, my teen decided to leave to go to another salon. I ended up paying $185 plus $30 for tip for both of our manis and pedis, and two weeks ago, for my nails alone, I paid $100 with a $40 tip for Jennifer. Jennifer is great, Annie is pretty good too, but no one wants to be yelled at for requesting something other than what they received, and I doubt we'll be back. I pay a lot of money for my nails, but customer service is just as important as the end result. read more

I give them a one star after the two last visits. Visit one the nails tech used the hand piece and took a good sized piece of skin off which made my finger bleed. Then she put some solution on it to stop it from bleeding and it didn't so she put something else on it. They didn't offer a discount or anything for hurting me! The second time I went in and they did help my daughters but raised their fees from 35 to 43 for a set of nails. I was also suppose to get my nails done but after my daughters were done an hour and a half later I had no more time. They never said they could not or to come back or anything. So since they don't know how to do business right and with the fees going up 10.00 per procedure we will no longer be patrons. Oh and they have a cheesy sign up in several places asking you get cash out for tip. You have to provide good service to get a tip. read more

But that's fine I have been there several times for gel manicure there 25$ but you can get a gel polish change for only 15$ or a polish change for only 6 bucks I love this place in there prices. Another great experience. This time I tried SNS dipping instead of gels. They look AMAZING! Jennifer is the dipping expert and was so friendly. I have naturally extremely thin nails that are easily damaged and she did such a good job gently fixing them up and meticulously covering the whole nail. She got right up to the nail bed without catching any skin so my nails will look good even when they begin growing out. They stayed 15 minutes after closing to perfect my nails and I did not feel rushed at all. They even added a snowflake accent to my friends nails while she was waiting for me and it turned out so cute and festive! Seriously worth driving in from out of the area. read more

I followed heather here from San Jose, she's really that good! She takes her time unlike other nail techs I've had and it always looks natural and even. I like to get French tip, I've tried solid colors but I think the French tip works best because I keep my nails short so the French gives the illusion or longer nails haha. I know it's December and no one gets their toes done anymore but I have this stubborn ingrown on my big toe, heather does a great job taking it out without any pain. (She even shows it to me after! I've been to this place many many times and it's always been hit or miss. Sometimes my nails look fabulous and other times they're ok. Why do I keep going? That's because it's the closest nail place. However today was a whole other story! I got my nails done a week ago and they looked fabulous! It was a wonderful pink French gel polish. I left very happy! Three days later they started to pull up and peal off. Jennifer, the manicurist and I think manager, had put the gel too close on my cuticles and the gel polish pulled up. I was getting water trapped underneath all my nails by day five so I pulled them off and went in today to get them redone. Long story short, the lady insinuated that she didn't do my nails last week and then had another woman paint them. The woman did a bad job. There's still flakes of gold from the previous nail color now cooked into my clear gel polish. I asked her three times to fix several different fingers but after the third time I gave up! Then to top it off she asked for my member card. When I showed it to her said that there wasn't a stamp on it from the last time with Jennifer's initials, insinuating once again that I hadn't originally gotten my nails done from her last week. I took out my phone to show her the bank charge thanks to my Bofa app. Then to top it off she STILL insisted on charging me $15 for my polish change I got to FIX what they had done wrong a week ago!!! "Satisfaction Guaranteed" is a lie!! I will never go here again. You'll see in the pic where she clearly missed the previous gold nail polish. That was even after pointing out several nails with the same problem including the ones in the pictures. Never again! I'll go to Queen Nails one block away from now on. read more

I met some friends here for a bday manicure/pedicure gathering as it was somewhat central for our meetup. I initially chose the place as it had decent reviews and prices. The only reason I chose to give the place a 2 star vs 1 or none is because they accommodating to our last minute time change for our appt. Other than that they were very rude and rushed the entire process. I'm not one to ever say bad things about any place and I'm extremely easy going and never want to make a scene. Needless to say both my pedicure and manicure were rushed. The cuticles were not cleaned and managed. The extra skin wasn't removed and overall it looks so rushed. The gell manicure is already chipping after 1 day. It usually lasts 3 weeks at other salons. Maybe they were just annoyed with our group of 3 and rushed but that is unacceptable. On top of that my friends treated me to the services and when they paid and offered a reluctant tip due to the issues listed they gave a nasty look and made a comment about the $5 tip per service. I'm sorry but a tip is not an expectation but a gratitude of your appreciation for good service and an experience. I will never go to this salon again read more

Today, Sonia, one of the nail technicians, talked me into getting a dip powder manicure. I have been getting gel manicures for years, so I thought why not try something new. I absolutely adore her as a person and her manicures are amazing. I started doing SNS with her almost a year ago now for those of you who don't know what it is it's a powder gel nail polish much healthier for your nails then the gel you light cure. You don't need to put you hands under that light to harden the nail polish and it lasts much longer to chipping or peeling.
