I pass by Fancy Fish in West New York all the time, and today I finally decided to stop in--and I'm…read moreglad I did. First off, the place is spotless--super clean and well-kept, which gave a great first impression. The food? Fresh and absolutely delicious. I ordered the fried flounder fillet and it was cooked to perfection--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of batter. I paired it with a side of tostones (though for $3, I was expecting more than four--at least a whole plantain's worth would've made more sense). I also tried the shrimp ceviche, which was refreshing and flavorful, and a simple green salad on the side. Service was A+, fast and friendly. The staff made me feel welcome right away. Pricing overall was very reasonable, with the exception of those tostones--but hey, I'm still going back for round two soon.

Lots of ensaladas and hot food options. Huge produce selection Cons: Candy/Bonbon section has shrunk a bit and they no didn't have any pinta azul paletas or the Bianchi's by de la Rosa. We were able to find them here in the summer time. We can get spices here that we cannot find anywhere else and they always have Serranos and specialty peppers stocked. You can find yuca plants and harvested yuca here as well. Their meat market is robust and will likely have every type you're looking for. Tips: Try to go with someone who speaks some Spanish - not everyone speaks English and can be challenging if you're looking for a specific item. I was treated with respect and I do speak some Spanish, which may have helped (attempting to speak Spanish went a long way during this visit) One of the shelf stockers spoke only English and was able to help me find something I was looking for.

This fish market is a great addition to the area and I was amazed by the variety of wild caught fresh fish they have. Their selection varies but for the most part I've been pleased. I've had the Dorado, Branzino, Faroe Island Salmon, the cod, and the monkfish. They have even had sardines which are my favorite. Fresh whole sardines are hard to come by. All of the fish that I had tasted good and was very fresh. The staff members are very friendly and are eager to help. They clean your fish and cut it however you like. Definitely a great experience if you're a fish lover like myself. I plan on going back to try their scallops and clams.
