My acrylic nail fill was fine, I was asked to pay $10 extra because of the length, not all places charge extra but the girl did reduce it to $5 more when I remarked about that. They also don't push back your cuticles, which I guess some places don't? I have never come across that. My big issue is the lack of sanitation. Not a single tool or nail file is sanitized between clients. They all sit in the same stand that is used from client to client. The nail files are not even given a simple spray! The techs still sit behind the useless glass partitions and wear useless masks but they don't sanitize a single thing for their clients! I won't be returning as sanitizing tools is an simple and necessary part of running a nail salon. read more

I went there to get eyelash extensions, but was extremely disappointed with the cleanliness and lack of communication and miscommunication. When I was told my procedure was completed, I already noticed that there were spaces that required more lashes. Through difficulty with communication, I was told to come back next week (not 2 weeks) and she would fix it. Since then, a third of the lashes had fallen off. I phoned them today (1 week later) and was informed by the male attendant that I would be charged the full refill fee, even though it has only been 1 week, I reminded him twice that the employee said she would fill in the spaces this week as she too noticed them last week when the procedure was completed. He then stated that I could wait the standard 2 weeks and then pay the same refill price. Extremely disappointed with the lack of basic customer satisfaction service. As much as I like to support local community businesses, I will not be going back nor do I recommend this business. The nail work was decent, the woman who did it was friendly. Its the salon itself - so dirty! The large glass windows all along the front are filthy (what else do you have to look at while you are getting your nails done?) and the vinyl wrist rest was torn up. The grinder machine was grimy, looked like it had never been wiped down. Of course you expect dust but the counter even with it's pattern was visibly unclean. They need to sit on our side of the counter and see what we see. read more

I came in for a fill from nails I had done at my regular place, I accidentally booked the wrong salon I hadn't ever paid attention to the name of the salons but they are both on hillside and have their name starting with F, anyways once I realized I decided to stick with my appointment at this place because I needed them done badly . The staff was very friendly but the gentleman doing my nails kept hurting me. First while using the nail drill he knicked me once quite hard and it hurt I yelped a bit and then he went back in and did it a second time, this time making me bleed, accidents happen and I didn't worry to much about it but then while filing my nails he kept rubbing the curved side of the file into the right side of each of my nails where the side of the nail meets the skin I mentioned it was hurting and he seemed to change what he was doing for a moment but then went right back to filing like that it hurt so bad I was wincing and I kept trying to gentle move my finger or pull my hand away a bit. I was so uncomfortable I thought about walking out quite a few time but I needed the nails done as I only have someone to watch my baby very rarely. By the end the sides of my fingers by the nail are all raw and burnt, I couldn't use my hand much all day because they were so sore. I left it alone to think on it yesterday and didn't want to write a review like this but I feel it's important to bring this to their and others attention. I went in with the hopes of feeling pampered and pretty but I left very discouraged, being a mom with little ones my hands are constantly being used and this little annoying pain shouldn't be there . The supplies they used were not up to par aswell, the nail file he pulled out had someone else's little nail clippings still on it. I will say though that he did a nice job on the nails, the process was scary to watch and I was convinced they would look bad but I was happy with how they turned out for the most part. But I shouldn't have to pay to be put in discomfort. I also do wish I had mentioned more to him during but I'm a very shy and anxious person I didn't know how to be any more vocal then I already had been by telling him it hurt twice. read more

I had a bad experience @ famous nails on June 6th. The bottom picture is what I wanted & the rest is what I got. I emailed the owner letting him know I wanted a refund considering my nails are different lengths, two are extremely bulky, and the tip color started off occupying a little bit of the nail on my pinky & ended up occupying the whole nail on my thumb. I didn't get a response to my email so I went there in person. I was told that yes they were indeed different sizes & he offered to cut my natural nail down to match. If I wanted my money back he would have to remove my nails and told to sit and wait. This is no way to deal with someone who's clearly in the right about the service & gave you an option to fix the problem by issuing a refund before posting anything online about their experience. I have started a dispute through my bank to get my refund. read more

I was in Victoria with some family members for a few days and decided that we needed to get our nails done. I was in the Hillside area and did a quick google search and found Famous Nails. I was very pleased when they had the time and space to accommodate us right then and there. The salon itself is nice, a large space with plenty of manicure tables and pedicure chairs. It was refreshing that they didn't have any loud music blasting, just the nice calm of conversation. I was the only one getting a pedicure, and they had a great deal going -- $35 (though their regular price of $45 is a steal as well). The man who did my pedicure was good. My soaking water was a nice temperature (I've noticed in previous salons this seems to be hard for them to figure out) and he attempted some pleasantries with me before getting down to work, which I appreciated. He did a nice job with cutting my toenails, shaping, etc. I have issues with ingrown toenails if my nails are cut improperly, but he handled the shaping well. He also did a great job with the nail colour. My only complaint, which is where the one start got knocked off, is that while he did file my feet, he didn't do that thorough of a job. I had an old rub spot from a few weeks ago that left a little patch of dry skin on the sole of my foot and it was still there afterwards -- the while point of filing my feet is to get rid of that. Plus he never mentioned using "the cheese grater", which seems to be a normal option (and one I usually take advantage of). But other than that, the foot massage was decent, and overall I'm happy with the pedicure (especially for the price)! If I'm ever in the neighbourhood, I'll definitely drop by again. I'm mostly doing this review for any locals who are looking for a nice pedicure. Also -- there is parking in front of the salon or across the street at the Hillside Mall, so there's no issues with finding somewhere to park. read more

I went to get a set of acrylic nails and safe to say it was not a good set... first of all my thumb nail is so Crooked I cant even pretend to not notice it, it makes my entire thumb look crooked. my nails are evidently not the same length either and the thumbs are also not even the same shape, as well as a few other nails that are also crooked. The person who did my nails was also extremely rough with my nails and cut me in a few spots on my cuticles, missed some spots with the acrylic. even with how aggressive he was being while doing it my nails are jagged and sharp underneath them and are thick at the tips. The colour is pretty minus it was just put on over the acrylic so you can see through the nail in the light. I still ended up paying and not saying anything because I was too anxious to say anything at the time but I wish I hadn't paid because I ended up pay $60+ on nails I ended up hating and am going to go somewhere else to get them fixed. he also asked me if I wanted to E-Transfer instead of paying with my card for some reason. I will most definitely Not be going back there and neither will my friend who's nails she also hated. read more

I went and got my nails done here asking them for a set of french acrylics with straight side edges and a neutral-beige base, absolutely no pinks. They said 'ok', then put on a clear base, a purple top coat that makes me look like the skin underneath has died, and left visible ridges everywhere in the white tips, some of which are crooked too. They also did narrow nail beds and wider at the top so they were sort of shaped like a fan. And they HURT. All night, I was up because they were throbbing, and I have a pretty high pain tolerance. I went in the next morning to plead for them to take them off and just give me a quiet refund, but they wouldn't! They just kept telling me nothing was wrong with them, even though they weren't at all what I had asked for and were clearly flawed. She also told me they were supposed to hurt!! The experience was absurd and bordered on the completely ridiculous. She fought me on every complaint I had, saying that they don't do refunds unless people are bleeding or infected. Understanding I was going to have to go through my credit card for a refund I said fine, don't refund me, but I need them taken off now because they're painful. Not tight. Not 'getting used to it'. PAINFUL. Like fresh bruises. Like something is wrong. She didn't want to. I insisted over and over and wouldn't leave because I needed to get them off! The friend who had come with me could not believe what she was seeing. The woman finally sat me down and started wiping the top coat off, but would NOT STOP shaking her head at me and saying that there was nothing wrong with them. I asked her several times to please stop arguing with me and just take them off - they're hurting me and they aren't what I wanted. It should have been simple. Take them off and the unhappy customer will leave knowing you did what you could. But she wouldn't stop badgering me. She just kept ranting about how I was wrong, then started taking pictures of my nails so she could prove me wrong to whoever she was planning on telling about it, and repeating their refund policy to me - only bleeding or infected. It was absolutely surreal. Anyways, I finally just pulled my hands away and said if she wouldn't stop being so combative about it, I'd just have mastercard claw back the charge and go to another salon for help. It was a horrible experience. If you aren't ready to like what these people decided to give you, don't go here. They don't care about you leaving happy or even pain-free. read more

Got gel polish nails & the gel layer was so thin it started chipping on more than one nail the second day after getting them done. They charge 25$ before tax for gel nails & it's not worth it for the work they do. Most places I've been charge 20$ so there is better deals out there. read more

I have gone here for a long time. There's lots of good nail techs, a couple great ones, and a few mediocre ones. But today I went to cut my little toe nail, & realized I contracted a fungal on my smallest pinky toe from last time I was there. I had to pretty much cut the whole thing off! & I'm not sure if it will ever grow back. So if you do go there definitely ask them to only use sterilized equipment & NEW nail files. read more

At my last visit, I had a great manicure from Annie. My only complaint was when it's really busy they don't do the hot stone massage during the pedicure. I booked an appointment here with me and my friend a little while back. We both booked in for acrylic nails costing 35$ according to the lady on the phone and their sign in front of their store and their brochures.We arrived on time and my friend got sat down immediately and I did not because the lady was not there. I stood there for about 10-15 and then the lady sat down. My friends lady was almost done sanding, so I already knew we where about 20 minutes behind on time. The lady starts doing my nails a little violently and painfully but I didn't mind. she left her seat about 3-4 times to go to other rooms, talk to other workers, etc. At this time two ladies walked into the store and were asked if they had an appointment. they said no and asked for an eyebrow wax. at this point my lady was back still filing and she started taking her dirty nails and taking the glue that BONDS SKIN THANKS ALOT! I didnt complain then either.. then she got up. this was normal by this point. not even all my nails were on and my friend was picking her colour. 10 minutes went by. 15, 20 and then 25. I texted my mom to come and help us and she said she was getting coffee and would be there soon. I got up to the wall where all the colours where and i see her working on the other girl! making me wait! bitch... my mom got their and told off the lady at the front desk and had the lady come work back on me. her excuse was "hers takes less time" WTF? I HAD AN APPOINTMENT FUCK THIS SHIT! so overall it took 2 hours with my friend waiting when it was supposed to take an hour... we get up to pay and she says "your total is 40 *something* dollars" and my mom said what? its 35? and she said "thats without any polish" THATS NOT WHAT YOUR FUCKING SIGN SAYS! then she had the audacity to say "fine but next time its 40$" like biiIIIITTTTCHHHH WHERE?
