I am writing this review to warn others about a serious and unacceptable experience I had at Famous Nails. I was seated with the older male technician (he looks like a grandpa) who sits at the first desk on the right next to the entrance and window. The salon was busy that day, and multiple people were present, but not a single person stepped in during or after what happened. This injury occurred while he was removing my acrylic nails. Instead of safely soaking them off, he used the unsafe "popping" method, forcefully prying the acrylic off my natural nail. During this process, he was rough, rude, and aggressive, and he clipped my actual nail that was still attached to the skin, not dead nail or cuticle. This caused an open wound, active bleeding, and exposed nail bed. When I questioned why he was applying glue and a top coat after injuring me, he said he was going to add an additional nail tip because he had clipped my nail. I clearly said no. Despite that, he still applied nail glue and added a nail tip to my finger without my consent, directly over an injured area. When I reacted in pain and tried to pull my hand away, he grabbed my finger again and continued. I pulled back again to look at my finger because I was scared and wanted to see the injury. He tried to stop me from looking at my own injury and did not want me to see it. Instead of apologizing or getting help, he became verbally aggressive. This was not a minor accident. Part of my living nail attached to skin was clipped, leaving my finger raw, bleeding, and painful (photos included). What makes this worse is that even though the salon was full, no staff member intervened, checked on me, or addressed the situation. I did not feel safe. I did not feel respected. This is a serious safety, hygiene, and consent issue. I strongly do not recommend this salon. Management needs to take responsibility for technician behavior and how client injuries are handled. read more

Sadly, I will not go back. I took my a friend of mine today to treat her for a basic manicure and pedicure. They "up" sell you on a "delux" pedicure which I don't think is all that much different than a regular pedicure. I am not the type of person to complain or write a bad review but to pay over $70 for these services and have pool polish lines, and still have rough callus on my feet is disappointing. It was one thing to charge me if he shaped then himself, but he didn't. I've been going here for about 2 years, and let me just say I was so impressed with them the first couple of times I went there that I stopped going to the previous nail salon I went to for 11 years. Everyone is so friendly! I always feel welcomed! Tammy (the daughter) is the primary person I see because she does fantastic dip nails! But I've seen every other employee at some point and they were all great. They've recently done some renovations and redecorating and it looks amazing. So inviting! In term of quality nails I think this place is one of the best in abq. Here's a few highlights: 1) great at cuticles- I've never been cut which I am alway paranoid about when I go other places. 2) AMAZING at design &precision. Everyone that I have tired there is really good at design especially if you have a picture. 3) tons of colors and can do almost any design if you have a pic. I was so excited to try this place but huge disappointment , I was rushed to do my pedicure everything was so unsanitary the tools look old and. he didnt sanitize he has previously used them on the client before and when i asked if i can get sanitized tools he hot upset started talking in his language on top of that The guy hurt me because he was going so fast he cut my nails way to short , and when it got time to do my nails i showed the lady the photo and asked if she could do them she barley looked at the photo and responded yes yes pick a color . This place has the rudest staff working here. They talk about the customers while they're sitting right there. They try and dictate what style and type of nail they want you to have. You pay for a deluxe pedicure and get a rushed job tell the nail tech you want long acrylic nails for your toes and she ignores you and cuts your nails even shorter. I went to famous nails (as recommended by my aunt) and got acrylics done by Tammy the mom and owner. They did a really bad job. I had asked for a refill and instead she just gave me a new set. She cut me three times and they ended up looking really uneven and shitty. The nails came out different lengths. After all of this they still charged me $75, no cuticle oil and no lotion. I am beyond disgusted with the way I was treated at this place. I called before hand because I typically go to Elegant nails where they do an amazing job btw. Anyhow I called this place because they had pretty decent reviews and I didn't have time to go across town. So I call speak to a kind gentlemen on the phone who assured me they can take off the nails in a manner where my natural nail would not be damaged, he told me it's an hour wait so I tell him to take my name and I will be in, in an hour. I get there and immediately the lady asked me if I would like a mani as well (I know when I get a mani at elegant they won't charge for the nail removing process) so I ask and she responds rudely of course, so I politely declined. She sat me down and proceeded to cut my nails which I wanted them soaked she cut my natural nail so I explained to her that's not what I wanted she ignores me and says it's a process so I say ok. She then starts getting extremely rough with me and my nails. She uses the drill (which I have never ever seen IN MY LIFE) as the wet acrylic is flying in my face, my hair and on the poor lady next to me. I have seen them scrape them after soaking with a metal tool but never the drill! She files my nails extremely rough and then gets up and tells me go wash my hands. I have never in my life been to this salon so I ask where is the sink? She then passes me and runs into me please keep in mind I am almost 9 months pregnant. I was like that had to be an accident however I did not even an I'm sorry. So I am looking for the sink like an idiot, I find it myself then there were no paper towels to dry my hands. It was the most disappointing experience I have ever received at a nail salon and I wouldn't go back for NOTHING ever! She should learn a thing or two about compassion and customer service I pray she is not the owner... To this day my nails have never been so thin they are bending. Since he is the busiest tech there, I'd recommend calling ahead to make an appointment with him (a week in advance) or you won't get in with him. Was seeing my nail tech religiously every two weeks when I had A tragedy strike my family and because of it I've recently been diagnosed with anxiety. My appointments were being stretched out to every 3-4 weeks and anytime I saw that I had free time I'd try to go see my specific nail tech but was never successful in getting in with her. The gentleman then began speaking to someone else and didn't even respond to me. After a bit I was told to sit in his chair. Right away I was spoken to very short and I felt like I was inconveniencing them. I could feel my anxiety setting in. I started asking questions about the type of set I wanted and was responded to as if I was stupid. It literally took everything in me not to break down right there. I calmly said that I was a bit overwhelmed and that I may just need to come back. He said ok and got up and walked away without any hesitation. I apologized and thanked him while he walked away and I got up and left. My daughter sees Mia religiously and recently my other daughter as well. I met Flower when my 10 year old son was just 2 years old. I'm torn with even letting my girls return. I sat in my car and had a full blown panic attack. I know that my feelings are mine to control but no one should ever feel like they are a burden when paying for a service. I left today feeling like they felt too good for my business or my money. I love this place. Their prices are worth it for the quality service they offer. I got fake nails done at the salon next to them called t&y nails and the lady was rough with my skin and didn't do what I asked. Here at famous nails though they'll do what you want plus they'll suggest something different that could look better. If you say no to their suggestion they respect that and try not to pressure you into getting something you don't want. They are sweet and always accept walk in if they have enough staff. read more
