I recently purchased a condo in Lakewood. I have not moved in, but check on it periodically. This past week I noticed multiple dead pill bugs in various rooms throughout the house. I hate bugs and was horrified! It was a Friday and I was only going to be in NJ for the weekend. Who to call? I went through the phone book and dialed at least 4 companies. I got answering machines for a couple and the others were not accommodating at all..."sorry, nobody can get there for at least a week." As much as I knew it was a lot to ask that somebody would be available on a Saturday, I also knew that I did not want a company with this kind of response time, especially for a possible new customer! I then saw another company, Families Exterminator, which had multiple 5 star reviews. I called and the owner, Mike, couldn't have been nicer. He told me he had a family party the next day, but he would be able to come by at 8 am if I could meet him there. He's a funny guy, and he told me he'd just tell his wife he was going to get ice for the party! LOL! When I arrived at 8, Mike had already assessed the whole outside of the property and was ready to douse the outside of the house. He showed us two bees nests which he removed and also gave tips on ways to tighten up the house so fewer bugs could get in. What was really great is Mike is super beyond- reasonable in pricing and he requires NO CONTRACT. He will work with you to tackle your issues and he does not need a contract, because he knows if he does the right job, you will continue to call. What a difference from those large companies who require contracts, but then when you have a new type of bug or rodent, tell you that it's not covered in the original contract! If you are looking for a great, honest company, you need to call FAMILIES! read more

I arrived to my shore house to find a bunch of bees swarming around my back deck and quickly searched for an exterminator. I came across Mike's info and called him at 3pm on a Friday, after a quick convo he said he would do his best to get to our house the next day. 30 mins later he reached back out and told me he was actually on his way. And there he was ! Fast forward almost 2 hours , mike quickly resolved our problem with the bees, however the remaining time was spent having Mike walk me around our entire property to check every inch of every structure. He even pointed out where there were water leaks in our garage ( something he doesn't fix). Mike spent the time showing myself, a newly first time homeowner, where I may run into some issues with weather , etc. Again this is not part of his job description, he wasn't trying to make money off me because he doesn't do those sort of repairs, he was simply being a good person. During the time Mike was at our house I quickly learned that he is one of the nicest people I've ever met ! He truly is a great person and a real family man. We chatted away about him to be a soon to be grandpa and myself a soon to be mom. After all of the time he spent with me mike barely charged me anything ! I was searching my pockets to give him extra money because I felt he deserved more because he really took the time to help me out. Mike also followed up multiple times to check on the status of the bees to make sure they didn't return. I don't wish bug issues on anyone but I am more than happy to have an amazing and friendly exterminator to recommend to anyone. Needless to say his business is called families Exterminators for a reason, because he becomes part of your family ! read more

What can I say! Mike gain my business because of his process in identifying a solution. I called Families Exterminators to deal with a bee hive that was in the ground near the pool area of my house. I am highly allergic to bees and had an incident, too close for comfort, with the bee hive. Within a couple of hours Mike showed up, made an assessment and provided an estimate. Mike is the principal of the firm. I felt the way he went about the assessment, looking at the situation from all angels, conceiving of different alternatives to attack the hive and finally providing a reasonable estimate, was quite professional if not entertaining. He just did not look at the situation as others I called and said "Oh yes, I can take care of that and this is how much it will cost you". He took his time! He then came back a few days later, with his equally entertaining son, and took care of the situation. Here is the thing! Mike kept coming back to ensure that the bees did not restart the hive. He came back not once, twice but three times. He came back to be sure I was safe! Well done Mike! Needless to say, I highly recommend this firm and they will be my preferred pest control company going forward. read more

Stop looking now, you will not find better than Mike! He is an actual angel. I am 9 months pregnant and a mouse ran across the living room last night during dinner. I immediately had a sense of dread about how much an exterminator would cost and the feeling that we we're going to get taken advantage of. I reached out to Mike for an estimate on a Saturday night and he got back to me within minutes. He offered to come out the very next day, on a Sunday! Mike felt like family as soon as he came in. He has excellent people skills. Mike was extremely knowledgeable and such a hard worker. He went above and beyond to remedy our situation. He checked in very difficult places, moved into small spaces, moving heavy things and found the points of access, fixed them and set traps! He explained each move he was making and what we could do from here. He even followed up afterwards to see if we had any questions. We were in a tough situation and he did not take advantage. He was priced very reasonably. We will never call anyone else ever again. We cannot recommend this company enough! Thanks so much Mike, you're a life saver! read more

We just purchased a home and during our home inspection evidence of mice and possibly carpenter ants were present. I called a few places before speaking with Mike and he sounded the most knowledgeable. He came to inspect the house free of charge and did a complete walk through of the entire backyard and house - including the attic. Mike showed me everything he found, which luckily wasn't much but I was surprised to learn the backyard is riddled with carpenter bees. Mike showed me how to tell where they are, provided some treatment options and climbed up on a chair to show me how to seal off the entry points. He also pointed out other areas of the house to seal off as a preventative measure and offered to come and spray (during his vacation) before we completely move in. I will say that we had someone else come by earlier in the week to inspect and they weren't nearly as detailed as Mike. I was extremely pleased with how thorough, and personable Mike was. We will definitely be using him. read more

I had a nest on my back porch that I wanted to get rid of. Wasn't sure what it was. I called a few exterminators and they wanted to charge me $150 just to come look at it. So I called Mike at Families. I liked him right away. He was friendly and personable - unlike the other exterminators I called. He also knew what the nest was just by me describing it. And he came out right away and removed it for a tiny fraction of what the others wanted to charge just to come look! But he didn't just remove the nest. He also searched my property and pointed out issues that I should address to avoid having problems in the future. And they weren't just insect / animal related. He pointed out structural issues as well. These days, it seems like every service provider is trying to retire on my one service request. But not Mike. He is friendly, knowledgeable, thorough and all at a very, very reasonable rate! You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't call Mike at Families first! read more

The reviews are true! I have never written a review before but he deserves one for sure! My message was answered within a couple of hours and he came to my home first thing in the morning and treated tons of bee and hornet hives. Unbelievably friendly and genuine. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, he does not require a contract and is very reasonably priced! All of these together are very rare to find in any type of contractor. He took his time, chatted with my kids, and even told them in a friendly way "always listen to your mother"- perfect added bonus ;) He also found handyman fixes I need here and gave me great advice as a clueless, non-handy homeowner! I highly recommend him to treat any type of pest problem at your home! (by the way I am in Monmouth County, NJ and no idea why the review says Mount Hope KS!) read more

I called Families Exterminator on a Saturday afternoon thinking I would get a recording to leave a message and had hopes of getting an appointment sometime the following week. Mike, the owner, took my call and told me he would be to my house in an hour. He was professional, listened attentively, gave additional tips when walking around my house on how to keep pests out, and eliminated a second story wasp nest which he thought was the reason for my wasp issue. He made sure I had his cell number to text him if I see additional wasps in or around our home. The price he charged for his service was surprisingly reasonable and all he asked was that I pass his name along; as he is building his business in New Jersey. I can't recommend Mike enough! Why can't all service professionals be as knowledgeable and fair as him?! read more

I highly recommend Families Exterminators. I had a HUGE hive in my tree! I called Mike, whom was recommended from a friend, early Monday morning. He answered right away, stopped by to check it out a few hours later, and came back in the evening that same day when the bees were more dormant. Mike text me prior to arrival to let me know he was on his way and that his son would be joining him to assist. They both worked efficiently and handled the removal with ease, along with some great laughs. I had never had this bee situation before so so Mike provided information as to what to look out for the next few days and even text me the next day to check in to make sure I wasn't being swarmed. A business that is personable, communicates effectively, honest, fairly priced, and caring is an A++ in my teacher grade book. read more

I can't say enough good things about Families Exterminators. I noticed yellow jackets nesting in the corner of my vinyl siding and didn't know who to call. I came on Yelp and read the reviews on Mike and Families Exterminators and everything I read was absolutely true. They were immediately responsive and began treatment the same day. What I liked about Mike is that he gave me his cell number and we communicated several days over the course of the treatment to kill the nest in a very difficult location on the corner of the house. I would tell him how much activity I noticed after each treatment and he would stop by to spray and then caulk the entrance holes to discourage the bees. I am very pleased with his work and would recommend him highly for any kind of extermination around your house. read more

Our experience with Families Exterminators has been nothing less than exceptional. We had a mouse problem in our vacation home. We live a few hours away. I did a google search and chose Family Exterminating because of his great reviews and what a great choice this turned out to be! Mike showed up and was able to make a plan to resolve the problem and now we are mouse free! Mike checks our house every few weeks to be sure no pests come back. He is thorough, knowledgeable and trustworthy. We have used his services for many years now. He has become a friend as well as a trusted contractor. He knows the area well and can recommend other reliable contractors if you need other work done. We would highly recommend him to anybody who needs this type of service. read more

About 1 week ago I cut down 3 trees. One of the trees was full of carpenter ants, I thought that they wouldn't make the night... Well, 1 week later I'm sharing my bed with them and scrambling to find a exterminator, Well thanks to all of your Yelp Reviews I found one... I quickly called Families Exterminators and told them what's up, Mike quickly called back and arranged to stop by to check it out. When he got here he did a thorough outside search of the property (with me) noting all the problems and fixes that I could do myself. He then serviced the whole house inside out. So to all Homeowners in need of a Exterminator... Look No Further... Mike was Professional, Personable and a Great guy to talk to... My Family has a new Exterminator.... Thanks Again Mike read more

I recently looked on a Facebook group for exterminators and came across Mike at Families Exterminators; I sent an email that day and he reached out a few hours later (on a Sunday!). Mike made sure to come address my ant problem the very next day and has checked on the the "situation" daily! I recently reached back out asking about noticing flies all of the sudden and he researched, text me information on what I can do, and continued to check up on the situation. Not only did he check the problems I was having around the house, he noticed some other "things" going on and gave me pointers and tips on what needs to be fixed. I have already recommended him to numerous people! Thanks Mike and Families Exterminators! read more

Mike was awesome, he contacted me right away. He scheduled an appointment for Monday morning. What was truly amazing was, that he texted my wife a few hours later and explained that he was in the area. He had asked if it would be alright to stop by today. That was awesome!! Mike came within the timeframe he stated, he was very pleasant and professional. Mike got right down to business and tackled our yellowjacket problem. He also reassured us that if we see any more of the to please call him right away and he would take care of it. He's just an amazing guy, and great at what he does!! He was very reasonable as far as the fee for his service. I will definitely reccomend him in the future!!! read more

I called Mike about critters in my attic. He told me that he would come over and take a look. We took a look around the house to see where any entry points were located. As we were walking around, Mike gave me tips on what I could do to keep animals from getting in my attic. We also went into the attic and took a look around and he also told me what items to get from Home Depot or Lowe's. He gave me a lot of advice and I did what he said and I don't hear the critters anymore. He was at my house for probably an hour and when he left he didn't accept any payment!! I highly recommend him for anyone dealing with bug/animal problems. He was very professionally and courteous. Thanks Mike! read more

Not only did Families Exterminators take my call on July 4th weekend, but Mike subsequently went out of his way to find a solution to my 'dead squirrel in wall' dilemma. Mike connected me w/ wonderful trapper/dead-squirrel-extractor who came the SAME DAY. He successfully found offending agent (eeek) & eradicated dead squirrel complete w/ plethora of flies inside wall. It was quite the problem but Mike & his team were a bright spot in otherwise very smelly situation. I would not hesitate to call Families, as my squirrel issues became THEIR squirrel issues - customer service I did not even know was out there! 5-stars (I'd give 6 if I could). read more

I put a post on my local FB group for a recommendation for help with wasps and got a response for Mike with Families. I like that they are located in my neighborhood so I would be supporting a local business. I called Mike and got an immediate response. He came over within a few hours found a nest and sprayed. He did a walk around the house to evaluate any potential issues, and told me to call him if and when we had a need. A few weeks later I noticed where the wasps were entering the siding, he came back, and sprayed the entrance. He is professional and kind. I would recommend calling Mike at Families for all your exterminating needs. read more

About a week ago my mom had a total infestation of ants. It was way too much for me to handle. I was there on a Saturday. On the advice of a good friend, I called Mike from Families Exterminators. He agreed to come out first thing in the morning..on a Sunday. He was prompt, extremely thorough and got the job done. He was also extremely reasonably priced. He checked back with us several times to make sure that all was well, which it amazingly was. I can't say enough about the satisfaction with Families Exterminators. Our family will use them always. I hope we don't have to. Very highly recommended. Look no more. read more

Mike is a great honest guy!!! Very quick to get back to me and come to my house. He thinks our problem is water damage. Mike charges nothing to go to customer houses to give his opinion. Then, he offered to walk around the outside of our house to see if he saw anything needing attention. You will love his personality and be sooooo glad you were lucky to have him come to look at your problem. He is my go to guy now for which I have been wishing I had for a long time. I think he will be able to help me out with many of our house problems through his years of living in the area and knowing people. read more
