He did a great job (wish I remembered his name!). The view was pretty good too, and we ended up sitting there for probably an hour or two, drank a whole bottle, and took two more to go. Overall everything was good and we had a fantastic afternoon! The only weird part was when another lady came up behind the one helping us and said "no more tasting" right in the middle of it. We'd only tasted three wines (sharing the samples), and we ended up buying bottles of those -- but my wife wanted to try something bold/rich red too. The interruption stopped us short, so she wasn't happy about it and it kind of threw Lili off. Honestly though, it didn't ruin our day at all, the bottle a we bought were good. Chiswell was our first stop after a 3.5 hour drive to VA wine country. We've been to the area many…read moretimes in the past, but this was our first time visiting Chiswell. Upon entering the charming house we were greeted immediately by the tasting room manager, Kephanie. She introduced their 13 wines and gave us our tasting options. While she got our drinks poured she invited us to tour the house and the grounds and let us know that we could sit anywhere we liked. There were quite a few rooms and as the only people there at the time, it felt like we had free range of the entire house! With all the character, antique furniture, and Knick Knacks, it felt like we had stepped back in time. There was also ample space outside on the Adirondack chairs and the views were spectacular, but since it was unbearably hot and we needed a table for all of our snacks (they sell a variety of snacks in the tasting room, but we brought our own), we chose to sit inside the tasting room. Kephanie offered to put a couple of tables together in the tasting room for us and she helped us get comfortable and situated with our snacks and tasting. She truly made us feel like we were right at home and her lively personality was palpable! Every wine we tasted was delicious and we especially loved the bubbles! The wine was excellent, and the service made the experience one of the best we had during our trip.

On my way to check out the nearby orchard, I spotted this winery, and decided to stop in after…read moredoing some apple picking. I'm really glad I did. The site is gorgeous, and the wine was good. First off, this is the only area winery that I know of that is adults only -- no, you can not bring your kids. Honestly, I'm not sure when going to drink at a winery or brewery became a "family" activity, and huge, huge kudos to Septenary for keeping the demonspawn out. I can't tell you the number of times (at other wineries), I've watched Mom and Dad hop out of the car, drink a few glasses, and pop back in with little Timmy, Billy, and Sally... that's just such an irresponsible thing to do with your kids. Add to that, 98% of the time, kids wind up bored and screaming and ruining the experience for everyone else? Yes, please leave your kids at home. Trust me, it's better for them and everyone else if they don't go from winery to winery with you. Also, as another big YAY to them, they don't allow smoking, including your trendy "e" cig. My lungs thank them for this policy almost as much as my ears thank them for the no kids policy. There's a lot of parking, and you'll wander up and see a beautiful infinity pool around the outdoor seating area. There's a lot of outdoor seating, but it was fr-fr-freezing, so we opted to sit inside. The inside area is almost as gorgeous as the views outside. There's an upstairs area that is breathtaking, but it's apparently for club members only. They don't really do a traditional tasting. You can order a half-glass of any wine, which is about $5-8, depending on wine. They recommend you do five, but you can try as many or as few as you want -- we went with just four. It's a serious half glass, which is a pretty generous tasting, intended to be split between two. The wines are self described as dry, and they are. That works really well for some types, though one or two weren't to my tastes. However, I absolutely needed to get a bottle or ... more ... of the various reds. I didn't see or don't recall seeing any food when we went, but they do have some picnic basket options during warmer times.

The grounds were gorgeous, and I could see myself spending a lot of time hearing nestled under the trees. The first thing we noticed is that instead of tasting at a long bar, we were invited to choose a table and be served by a member of staff. And, instead of a set tasting list, you can pick and choose what you want among the offerings to build your own (see photo). The Viognier was a stand out, very creamy and soft. I also enjoyed the red blends, especially the Springhouse Red. We will be back!

We go for the wine and the views. Stinson offers both of these and so much more. With service and owners who are attentive, personable, and very, very funny, Stinson is the perfect place to relax on a Sunday afternoon. To my knowledge, they are the only Winery on the Monticello Wine Trail to have a kid's play area-- courtesy of Wild Rock. With great wine and a charming, picturesque view of the mountains, this small, yet popular winery is well worth a visit.

They make decent wine in a beautiful tasting room, overlooking picturesque grounds. We learned today that a new winemaker started during the pandemic; he employs a "spontaneous fermentation" process that is more natural and uses fewer sulfites. As someone who sometimes experiences headaches from sulfites, I appreciate this. We chose the red flight (see photo). They also offer a white flight, five wines for $16. The Petit Verdot (part of the tasting) and Cab Franc (extra taste) were standouts. The hubs also really liked the Beril, a blend of mostly Tannat. It's a worthwhile stop on your wine tasting adventure.
