We have visited several times but haven't been in a couple of years. This winery has always been one of our favorites. We came with friends who hadn't been before. We were warmly greeted and ordered flights to try several wines. We sat outside and really enjoy the spacing of the tables, shade and availability. We really love the feel of this winery. Such a cute winery! My friends and I came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was surprisingly not too crowded. There's plenty of seating options, inside and out side on the deck or at picnic tables. They have 3 dogs that are super sweet that roam around, and you are able to bring your own dog but have to be leashed. For drinks, I got a glass of the strawberry special wine which was a sweeter wine and so delicious! I also ordered their pepperoni pizza which was yummy. The staff were very friendly too. Went with friends to sample wines but found they just started brewing beer! All were delicious! The venue is cozy on the inside but it was a nice day, so outside seating was ample and comfortable. The servers were fun and from NY/NJ area and so are we, so it was hysterical. I highly recommend especially if you are dog lovers. read more

I got to choose 5 wines to taste and I personally found them all a bit dry for my liking and expensive at $18 for the flight (hence the 3 star rating). Tranquil winery for enjoying a lovely summer day. We visited Cunningham Creek Winery on a Saturday afternoon, and there were plenty of tables available both inside and outside. The porch is completely protected from the sun and overlooks a lush green lawn with a forest in the background. We tried the sangria and the Cabernet Franc. The sangria was delicious and not too sweet. The Cabernet Franc was peppery with a nice body. Overall, we had a great time at Cunningham Creek Winery and I would recommend them if you are in the area. read more

Cunningham Creek is practically in our backyard and one of our favorite places. They have a massive deck with plenty of shade and seating, Adirondack chairs grouped around fire pits, and beautiful tasting bars. The atmosphere is laid back. The owners are absolutely lovely and the wine is tasty. They have two winery pups who love attention and play well with other dogs. My top three wines are the Meritage, Herd Dog Red, and Viognier. No, you don't want to come here. . Kidding of course. So lovely it should be kept secret so it doesn't become overrun with too many of the things that ruin hidden gems. I'll say this first: the wine itself is pretty epic. There's even a fortified wine - wow! Taste 5 nice sized pours for $18. You can bring your own nibbles or they sell snacks as well. GF crackers yay! Inside and outside seating, friendly service, local hospitality, and ... growler for wine?! Cool! A little bigger that 750ml bottle. My friend was refilling hers. Next time! What a welcoming warm vibe at this winery off the beaten path! We were greeted and led to a tasting bar. They have several small bars set up so you have a more personal wine tasting experience. And I was elated to see they had purse hooks! Purse hooks are an underrated perk!! Our wine steward was not only knowledgeable, but poured the samplings at an even, comfortable pace. I really enjoyed the Virginia rosé which I bought, as well as a bottle of the Petit Manseng dessert wine. I'm typically not a fan of port wine, but this one was more fruity as not as sweet as most I've tried. My partner in crime loves the Viognier. She's a member of their wine club and frequents this winery regularly where she enjoys discounts and fun events. She recently attended a "create your own succulent terrarium" craft night! They also have year round live music and they stay open later than wineries in the area, summer hours 11am-9pm! After our tasting, we sat at a game table where they have large Connect Four boards and other games. We sipped our chosen wines along with some decadent, delicious chocolates we purchased at the Farm Store gift shop. These amazing chocolates blew me away! The dark chocolates with orange nibs are outta this world. And the caramels are beyond! There's also a cold case where you can grab a serving tray and create your own cheese and charcuterie board. That's right char-coo-ter-ee lol! :-D The grounds are lovely, open and clear. There's seating on the patio, the picnic tables or around the fire pit. This winery is officially one of my favorites! The owners are usually always there and so pleasant! They make you feel like family and great you with so much care. The outdoor area is just beautiful, from the patio to the grounds around which provide tons of covered picnic tables for privacy. They usually have fun events going on as well and I highly recommend becoming a member. They are kid and dog friendly and have two cute dogs of there own that roam the grounds! Just such a fun, loving and special place, wether you are going with a small group, large group, private party or family. I always make it a point to go to this winery when I am in the area. Some of my favorite wines are the Rivanna Red and Merlot. You need to also grab some strawberry wine while you are there to either take home or enjoy on a sunny day, It's the perfect day drinking wine. I know from experience. This place has a lot to offer with outdoor space for when the weather is good and cozy inside seating for the colder months. A sweet little local winery with very nice staff and great wines. No restaurant but they do sell little packages of crackers, cheese, and meats to nibble on wile you sit on their outdoor deck. Went to visit the MIL in Virginia and notched out some time to check out the local wineries. Well, Cunningham was the last on our list and let's just say we saved the best. I was extremely impressed with not only the down home comfort but the whole operation they have created there really making them comparable to the top-bot wineries I have experienced at home in Napa & Paso Robles. Hubby and I have decided to sign up for wine club becuase the wine was amazing and who doesn't want to support businesses that deserve it? Cunningham Creek Winery - Um, who would not love this place?! - Wineries Near Me - Palmyra, Virginia

Great visit to a winery that's off the beaten trail. They are a good 20 minutes from the nearest wine cluster, and GPS guidance wasn't much assistance because of a lack of phone signal. Still, I found it, and was quite impressed. They've been open as a winery only a year, although I think the vines have been producing for several years. 12 acres under vine, plus they get some grapes from other VA vineyards (although they are moving to 100% estate). I don't know the production; they are on the new side, so they likely haven't hit their stride. Although I describe them as 'off the beaten path', you'd never know it by the tasting room. Cozy and well appointed, they have 3 x mini tasting bars instead of a single long bar, so you get a more personalized experience. My server was fun too; he talked us through all their wines, and was happy to trade his own wine-visiting stories. They had a large variety, although only a portion were on the tasting menu. On trust alone I bought their Petit Verdot (especially since it was aged 21 months in French Oak). The reds I had were on the lighter, less tannic side, although I deeply appreciate the 18 month (minimum) aging they do. What I tried: 15 Chardonnay: Made in new French Oak; exceptionally good (although I'm biased towards Chards in new French Oak). 15 Viognier: Citrus notes; after the Chard this didn't blow me away, although it was nice in it's own right. 15 "Cycle 76" (Pinot Gris): Very light. 15 Cabernet Franc: For reds, on the light side. 14 Merlot: Nice cherry nose and light body. 14 Meritage: I liked it...but it needs time. Leave it alone for a year or two. Don't let the dogs mooch you! They may act hungry, but both were pretty spoiled. read more

Like other reviewers have stated, Cunningham Creek is a little off the beaten path but so worth the visit! We came in late on a hot Sunday in the time of 'rona, and were promptly seated on their very large deck - but I'd make a reservation if you are planning on going during peak times. Every employee was super friendly, and even though they were out of their viognier, their other wines were impressive. They have a fenced in dog park as well for puppers to play. Staff was friendly and answered our various questions about not only the wine but the wine business itself. I have been coming here to CCW since they opened in 2106, and I have to say that what started as a "I'll stop in when I'm in the area " has now become a destination trip for me. The wines are excellent, but the genuine welcome and bonhomie in the tasting room is what separates CCW from other wineries in the area. Bruce and Debbie have created many friendships among their customers and I enjoy watching them as they greet old friends and new customers. The addition of food trucks is most welcome, as are the ever-evolving special dinner and events. I enjoyed seeing the winery dogs again, Crush, Corky, and Brix. If you don't know, and I didn't until Bruce explained it to me, all the dogs' names are related to wine. Crush and Corky are self-explanatory, but Brix has to do with sugar level in grapes. I learn something every time I visit. I've been lucky enough to visit during a fundraiser dinner for the local animal shelter, during dinners by Chef Andy, and even during a make-your-own-wreath workshop. There's always something going on. If you haven't tried Cunningham Creek yet, make a point to visit as soon as you can and order a flight. read more

This is a gem of a winery, and our favorite during our 14 person wine tour. Why it is so great: - Snicker and Doodle - the wine dogs! - Clean, modern, and so much stuff going on! - The space, scenic in the backdrop of a blue sky! - The staff, some of the friendliest and most fun people ever (great at cracking jokes and returning jokes). They put up with us somehow - It is still relatively new so it isn't that hard to get a large group reservation - The wine isn't Sonoma great but it is Charlottesville awesome (C'ville just keeps on getting better though) - It is relatively not pricey for a wine tasting. 8 dollars for now. This is a must hit spot on your wine tour! read more

Definitely a place to check out if you are in the Fluvanna area. They have absolutely wonderful outdoor and indoor spaces that can be intimate or accommodating for large parties! We participated in a wine tasting, which included 8 different wines, both red and white and one rose. You then can pick a glass or if you fell in love grab a bottle and grab a seat inside and listen to the music or grab a seat on their patio, picnic tables or Adirondack chairs they have outside. They are okay with you bringing outdoor food, we packed picnic snacks while we enjoyed our wine on the patio. My boyfriend and I visited August 6, 2022 as a birthday gift for me. The staff is knowledgeable, personable, and very friendly. The atmosphere is comfortable and laid back. They offer a wide variety of wines to suit just about every palate. Herd Dog is absolutely AMAZING! The strawberry wine is delicious, as well. Our favorite winery. We and our dogs love to be greeted by the winery dogs, Corky and Crush. The winery dogs often sit by our table with our dogs. The new winery pup is starting to warm up to our dogs (or our dogs are getting used to him). Everyone here is so laid back and easygoing, including the dogs. The winery also has a dog park, and our dogs have played with the winery dogs in it. The wine is great, and we have met people from all over the country there. The owners are really welcoming. There is a nice view of the vineyard, and some tables are under pergolas with sunshades. They often have good music. It's always a relaxing experience. We highly recommend them. read more

My friends and I came for a tour of the winemaking process and had so much fun! The property is beautiful, and the winery dogs are very sweet and friendly - perfect for petting. Bruce gave us a fascinating tour of the equipment and process for making wine in all its stages and answered our questions in depth. We know so much more than we did before, and he was engaging throughout the tour. Afterwards, we stayed to enjoy the view and the drinks! In addition to great wine, they sell some very cute stickers to put on a laptop or water bottle, which I'm excited to use as gifts, and a number of locally made food and craft products. What a great place! We stopped by while visiting the area from out of town. Some highlights are the scenery, kind staff, clean environment, delicious wines and fun pups that walk around the property. Love that they have a dog park area too! We decided to bring some bbq to enjoy with our wine. I love how the wine list has a "best paired with" blurb so you know what foods to enjoy with the wine. We appreciated how they respected space and comfort levels during covid. There was tons of space between groups, masks worn by everyone and a short questionnaire upon entrance to ensure safety. i visited Cunningham creek winery on two occasions and both were unpleasant. the first time was during the run and sip 5k. You get a glass of wine after the race as part of your package. when i asked what the wine profiles were, myself and my friends were promptly told, this is not a tasting and to just take the white. mind you, this was by the owner Bruce. I returned a second time for trivia night and encountered another rude staff member, the other owner Debbie. she was actually bad mouthing the place I work at not knowing I worked there. it's just a bad look and i wont return or recommend this winery. read more

Liked the setting, wines, music (by Sh'Boom), and Debby the proprietor (with husband Bruce). Stayed at their excellent AirBnB cottage 2 driveways down for a triathlon at Lake Monticello (Lake M is say 15 minutes from the vineyard), and stopped by the winery Saturday at around 7 pm for some wine and a chat. The room for socializing has a fireplace with an excellent Persian carpet, plus lots of art and a quilt on the wall. People can bring in their own food or buy food on the way in from Local Eats (hot restaurant in Cunningham VA). Live music was from Sh'Boom! (one man band with extensive repertoire). Dancing also. Music and dancing would have been outside except for the risk of rain that night. Debby is from California and DC, with lots of stories to tell, plus a friendly cat and young winery dog. Main room in the winery is huge and was say 65% full, with Lake Monticello locals, plus folks from Charlottesville and Richmond. Plus us from California. Cunningham Creek Vineyard wine was award winning and compared well with California wines. Sorry to say did not meet Bruce. Thankfully, lots of easy parking. Note that Google Maps and Apple Maps may want to direct people into a former entrance to the property. While doing winery visits in C'ville we saw a sign for this new winery and decided to veer off the route several miles to give it a try.... that turned out to be a great idea! This is one of VA's newest wineries, just being opened in July 2016. The staff there was very happy to explain their new winery, the tasting room, their wine making process and even the cute dogs they've got walking around (no people food for the dogs!). Their wines tasted pretty good for a young winery. They also had a nice selection of wines available. The layout of their tasting room and property was very smart. Loved how they have multiple wine tasting stations, rather than one large, crowded bar. Parking was ample and the vineyard and property was beautiful. We look forward to going back with our regular group of "wine lovers" to enjoy sitting, sipping and snacking. On the day we went, a rainy Sunday, they also had a small, acoustic band. read more

We were introduced to their wine last year while picking strawberries (yes, you can also pick fresh strawberries here when in season), the owner was who poured our wine and it was a fantastic conversation about the area, land and the wine. Just discovered this little gem right down the road from my house. Highly recommend everyone check it out! Excellent wines, relaxing and laid back atmosphere to hang out in. The owners have done a really great job with the place and you definitely know they pour their heart and soul into it! They tell me they plan to continue the live music Friday night thing throughout the year. I've been to many vineyards in the surrounding area and this is by far my favorite! Finally a great vineyard in Fluvanna! We just adore this vineyard. The owners are so friendly and we love that they are open late on Fridays and most Saturdays in the summer. The strawberry wine is incredible but it is a limited quantity so get it quickly! It's also very dog friendly. read more
