One of my son's main wishes was some privacy from the neighbors who overlook his back yard and rather than extending the block walls above the legal height I decided that hedges would do the job. My criteria were fast growing, color, low maintenance and water and I decided on "Purple Hopseed". I called a lot of local nurseries hoping to find them at 6' high but that was prohibitively expensive with 15-gallon plants and nobody seemed to have them in 5 gallons. I stumbled on Quartz Hill Garden Center and spoke with Kiersten the manager, she was incredibly helpful and responsive and tracked down 37 five-gallon Purple Hopseed plants that she could get in two days from a reputable supplier. She told me that they would be 3-4 feet tall and I resigned myself to the fact that we would have to wait a year or two for them to grow and expand. Kiersten gave me a good discount so I ordered them and you can imagine my delight when they were delivered and were actually 6 feet high! I was actually getting 15-gallon size plants for a 5-gallon price (see photo). Kiersten was also a very helpful in recommending other local resources and she was an absolute delight to deal with.
