This restaurant is a real gem and a destination place. People come from all over to get their fix of the terrific food. I have actually been going to this address when it was The Belgian Bakery and that goes back to the seventies. I had the vegetarian omelette this morning with a latke w sour cream, sourdough toast w mango jam and numerous cups of coffee. Yummy!! The current owners are super and have kept up the tradition of excellent food at a reasonable price. The service is also very good. What is very enjoyable about The Falafel Place is the friendly welcoming staff all take the time to get to know each and every customer. The food is also very good and worth trying. What I love the most about it is the diner feel and vibe it gives out. It's a one of a kind location not just in Winnipeg, but in the world. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices including falafel with hummus, eggs, hash browns and huge plates of skillet breakfast with meat, eggs and potatoes. All were very good but almist allseats were taken and it was very busy i the late morning but even with that service was pretty slow and we waited almost an hour for our orders. Omg! Now my favorite breakfast place in Winnipeg! A Mediterranean-inspired breakfast is a wonderful change to the ordinary eggs, hash browns, etc. This place offers hummus and falafels alongside your traditional breakfast items! Vegetarian hummus breakfast (with a side of sausage): I loved every piece of this. The hash browns were made with garlic and onions to give it an added flavor. They did add a bit of spice that enhanced the whole thing from traditional salty fried potato. The falafels were nice and crispy without being oily. They held together perfectly and the hummus with added peppers complimented the dish well. They offered a hot sauce that is not your traditional Tabasco or Sriracha. I recommend this to added a different flavor to eggs. They have your traditional gyros and wraps if breakfast is not your choice. The place is always packed so I'm sure everything on the menu is just down right yummy. Parking is street only and they only take cash or debit! read more

This place is always packed with diners especially if you go during brunch hours on the weekend or on holidays. You'll usually have to wait to be seated (10-15 minutes) but luckily turnover is fairly quick. You'll usually be greeted by Ami, the owner, with his commanding voice asking "how many?" (in your party) as he tries to figure out table configurations. Service is prompt and efficient as the various servers rush by giving you the menu, water and swing back in mere minutes to take your order. If you've never been there before, it can be quite the task to figure out what you want to eat. I love the fresh squeezed OJ there for $4.75. All breakfasts are served with hash browns or a potato pancake and toast. I like the "falafel breakfast" which comes with 2 eggs, 8 falafel balls, tahini sauce, & hummus; a great filling breakfast especially if you ask for the hot sauce that's stored in the fridge near the back. The potato pancake is good but not as crisp as I normally like it but its still yummy with sour cream. If you just feel like a falafels - I like the falafel plate which comes with 8 falafel balls, lettuce, tahini sauce, hummus, and a pita on the side. If you can manage to eat something after brunch - I love the Cheese Blintzes: 3 crepes stuffed with cottage cheese served with sour cream and jam. Yum! If you don't feel like breakfast, I like the Shwarma (lamb) platter that comes with couscous and salad. My niece likes the Mickey Mouse pancake that comes with chocolate chips and whipped cream on the side. It's a cute breakfast that appeals to the kiddies. Great brunch place! Visited in October 2012 in mid-afternoon, were seated with water and menus within 2 minutes. Food was fast and very delicious! I had the falafel heaven and my mom had the falafel pita. I think next time I would get the falafel pita because the hummus was a bit soupy and I think I would have preferred the crisp lettuce instead. I was expecting a pita sandwich I could pick up and eat but this falafel is a MEAL! Portion size is very generous. I wanted to take some falafel home for my husband, but the owner said it wouldn't travel well, even without the sauce. I found that surprising. Too bad, he would have enjoyed it. I have only eaten dinner here once or twice in the past. I recently came in to have a leisurely breakfast one morning on my day off. I ordered the Falafel breakfast which had 8 falafel balls in a hummus tahini sauce with peppers, toast with butter, a potato pancake with grilled onions and garlic, scrambled eggs and a coffee. The falafel balls were crisp and delicious, especially covered in the hummus-tahini sauce. The scrambled eggs were your basic diner type eggs, but the potato pancake with the onions and garlic was amazing! I tried so hard to savour my breakfast but ended up devouring it. The staff was really friendly and you could tell the restaurant had a few regulars. The only complaint that I had about Falafel Place was the booth I was sitting in. The bench was sinking on one side and I felt like I was sinking lower and lower. As annoying as this was, it doesn't stop me from giving them 5 stars. Do people in Winnipeg realize how lucky they are in regards to breakfast foods? I hope so. Because after eating here, I was both amazed and sad. Sad because I can't eat this breakfast in Vancouver. The menu had a great selection! And I think I recall seeing that they serve breakfast all day. I wasn't in the mood for eggs, so I got the "Vegan Heaven Breakfast" which includes 8 mini falafel balls surrounding the most amazing hummus I've ever tried IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, toast, and some delicious hash browns that came with potato, yam, tomato, onion and random other veggies. SO GOOD. I just wish I was able to eat more of it. If you ever go to Winnipeg (which you should) then you need to get this, or the Falafel breakfast, which is the same thing but with eggs. Can someone just mail this food to me? I'm having trouble coping with the fact that it's halfway across the country. This is going to be my first choice next time I'm in town. read more

Went here for breakfast this morning and I have to say..... He doesn't take debit or credit cards. For me the quality of food, the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the restaurant and the all around high caliber of service is all almost trumped by the fact that he only accepts cash in a cashless society. I had a mushroom, onion and cheese omelette which was delicious. I found the omelette itself to be slightly dry when not eaten with cheese, but now I'm just being nit picky. The mushrooms were fresh, and not from a tin which was surprising to me; as the omelette was only $10 and for that price i was expecting 'omelette from a can'. It came with hash browns (or a potato pancake, but I got HBs) that were salted with what tasted like french fry salt, and probably the highlight of the meal. I elected to get them with onions and garlic because I didn't have to be in the company of the general populous in the afternoon; and it was well worth it. He brought me rye toast, even though I would've preferred white - but was not given the option. The owner is a exceptionally pleasant Arabic man named Ami, who is always smiling and strikes me as being a particularly demanding person to work for. As a customer, that is what I like to see. It definitely gave me the distinct impression that this was his restaurant and he took pride in it and it showed. Solely based on the fact that the owner is Arabic, it would be nice to see stronger coffee than that freeze dried crap that people here drink in north America; not that the coffee was particularly bad or anything, and was certainly priced as a regular cup. My guess is that if he switched to actual arabic coffee then I would've been complaining about the price (even though my brother paid haha). One final thing before I wrap it up, I noticed as I was leaving that they were cutting oranges in half which leads me to believe the orange juice may be freshly squeezed and makes me regret not getting some. I'll have to check it out next time, because I definitely will go again.... I'll just have to make sure to stop at the bank first. read more

I really wanted to give this place a 5 - but there are two reasons why I can't. First off who only accepts cash anymore? And if you do only accept cash why is there no bank machine? I actually have to walk across the street to TD to take out money. Kind of ridiculous. Another thing is it's not always the most comfortable to sit and have a meal depending one what table you get. It's usually always busy, has quick turn over, but some tables are so small. It's hard to fit all the food depending on what you order. And make sure you order everything you need otherwise you'll be waiting some time for the server to come back to you - they're really great and friendly, but have a lot of tables. The food is SO good though. I love their fresh cornbeef sandwiches and these are the ultimate potatoe pancakes. Really great prices too! I haven't been to Falafel Place since it moved down the street, but I'm assuming the menu and staff is unchanged. I love coming here for breakfast and lunch. A little corned beef hash, some hot sauce, and some freshly squeezed OJ. Delicious. The place is fairly small and you can sit at tables, booths, or right at the grill. The serving staff is pretty young but very polite and friendly. There is a guy that's always there and I assume he's the owner, and he's pretty much the friendliest guy around. The latkes are tasty and surprisingly, I haven't tried the falafel's but I hear they are pretty good too. Anyway, it's always a pleasure dropping in for some breakfast or an early lunch. read more

Came here for breakfast twice this past month and I'm glad I did. The atmosphere is really nice- like being at home. They pour a lot of coffee, the full container of cream is left at your table, it's really comfortable and laid back. The food is also really awesome. It can get busy at times, but I've never felt rushed. And they used to be cash-only, but they now have a credit card machine and I was able to pay for my bill by visa. We decided to drop in for a late lunch. The good news was there were no crowds to fight, and as always the service was both bun and efficient. The French toast was okay. It got better when we were entrusted with the cinnamon shaker but like I said, it was okay. The lamb falafel was good. Not a huge portion of meat. There seemed to be lots and lots of lettuce though. I made the mistake of trying to pick it up and I went from a falafel to a 'bowl' of lettuce and lamb and pita. So I just picked up the bowl being careful not to bite the edge :-). The fries were a good sized portion and reasonably crispy. We enjoyed our food but it was not screaming at us to come back and try it again. We'll see. read more

Who knew I could find killer falafel in Winnipeg?? I was in Winnipeg for work, and a few of my local co-workers decided to take me here for lunch one day. I have to admit I had my doubts. "I'm of Middle Eastern descent," I told them. "I'm just letting you know, I'm a harsh critic when it comes to this food." They assured me I'd be satisfied. I ordered a falafel sandwich with eggplant. It came in a pita, with tahini sauces, cucumbers, tomatoes, and small, piping hot falafels. Delicious! I made sure to compliment, Ami, the energetic Israeli owner you'll see bustling about. This place is the real deal and is better than most Israeli restaurants in Los Angeles. Falafel is a good bellweather for the overall food quality of a restaurant. If they can do falafel right, you can bet the rest of the menu is going to be pretty good. I'm definitely coming here again next time I'm in Winnipeg. read more

My cousin recommended this place and said it was worth checking out, man was he right! It looks a little daunting based on the neighborhood, but be brave my hungry friends :] this is not a spot you want to have pass you by. The food was simple, but very tasty. The hot sauce is coriander based and very tasty. I had the montreal smoked meat hash and it was huge! We are thoroughly stuffed. The owner and I would presume his daughter are super friendly, and very attentive. Best service in a long time! Coffee was always circulating, so was water. And this place was absolutely packed, prices are very affordable. I would eat here regularly just to visit, they make you feel like you were a family friend. This place has everyone from grandmothers to young kids, hipsters, firefighters eating here. No joke best experience this side of Vancouver :] Good job guys! read more

1 star is being generous... We came here for the "homemade onion rings" they didn't even have them available. We thought we would give this place a chance and continued to order 2 falafel wraps with hummus and yam fries.. when the waitress brought the food she only brought 1. She left so fast that i couldn't order a second. She also didn't return after that. The one wrap we got had no hummus and not to mention the yam fries were awful. The place was super busy when we got there, but we were seated fairly quickly. The menu is great for breakfast and lunch items. And lots of veggie items, which I appreciate. I had the Veggie Scramble (I think that's what it's called). Basically eggs, potatoes and vegetables all mixed up together and fried. The potatoes were a bit too soft for my liking, but it was still pretty decent. (Not exactly a hard dish to make, though.) My girlfriend had the Falafel Breakfast and I got one of her falafel balls. As someone who eats falafel regularly and has probably eaten at every place that offers it in this city, lemme tell you the falafel here is something different. It is by far the best falafel I've ever had, not just in Winnipeg, but anywhere (not that I'm a falafel connoisseur or anything). The balls are small and they're more of a paste than a powder like in most places seem to have. And it is yummy! I'll be getting the falafel breakfast for sure next time we go. read more

ON a recent trip back home to the peg I was going to go to Fresh cafe but sadly it was closed so a friend suggested i come here.It was super busy,lots of chatting and newspaper reading going on but i took a seat at the counter and got a birds eye view of the kitchen. Everything seemed really clean and after a good read of a pretty extensive menu i decided on the Vegan Heaven breakfast which included mini hummus balls,some really yummy hummus and a savory potato,yam and onion mix. I'd definitely go back but maybe when the pace is a little less crazy. Also just be prepared that they only take cash so a walk across the street to the bank will be necessary if you are just packing plastic. read more

Upon entering the falafel place, I couldn't help but be enamoured by the fresh scents of fried eggs and bacon grilling while the host was busily greeting us and finding a table. The food was delivered promptly by the waiting staff as they politely offered to top up coffee and provide hot sauces and ketchup. The falafel breakfast was a visual masterpiece. The sunny side up eggs open bringing to mind two parallel Suns high in the afternoon sky. Served alongside, 8 falafel with hummus and tahini, with some hot sauce and banana peppers adding some kick to an already great dish. The breakfast was phenomenal leaving me filled to the brim. Wanted to update my review since they've changed the menu a bit recently. I've been eating vegan for 3.5 years and I try to eat as much gluten free as possible for some health reasons. They now have gluten free falafel balls to go with all their menu items. They taste amazing and near identical to the regular ones. Just moved back to Winnipeg from Toronto after being there for 3 years and there are endless amounts of falafel/shawarma places there but it's tough to find a great sit down restaurant like Falafel Place so I'm glad to have it back in my life. read more

I have been enjoying Falafel Place since I have been in Canada (10 years). When we come for breakfast/brunch I always order the vegetarian hash with egg whites and garlic and onions. The aroma from this dish is amazing! I dip the food in the homemade hot sauce. I will have to purchase a bottle next time we are in. Their coffee is gourmet which I so enjoy and is served really hot. Sometimes I drink their coffee without cream as it is not bitter. I have stopped by a few times to only purchase coffee to go. The wait staff is pleasant and helpful. When we have visited in the evening I order the vege hash and the curry,lentil yam soup which is a bit spicy. It is tasty. This restaurant is a gem. I'd like to find similar breakfast restaurants in other cities that I visit. read more
