Falafel Hut just opened last weekend, replacing the old Jack's Fried Chicken in bright new colors.
There's no seating or even an inside - just a window through which to you order from the sidewalk. I got there just in time as there was soon a gathering of people outside (some already repeat customers and some just checking out the new spot).
The chef is very friendly and all smiles as he takes your order, cooks and makes your dish to go.
I had the namesake Falafel Sandwich (aka wrap/kebab) and a side order of Hummos and Pitta. The falafel wrap was bursting with fresh veggie flavors even though the falafels themselves are deep fried. Unlike the usual kebab places in HK, there's are not completely drenched in thick mayonnaise based sauces.
I was incredibly pleased with the result held in my hand, even though I couldn't taste the "spicy" request and it was a bit salty in my opinion.
The big disappointment is the portion of the Hummos and Pitta. 40hkd for a small serving of hummos and a single small round pitta (only about 11cm if I had to guess).
I'll stick with 4 stars for the quality of the food is very good and it's a great new addition to Kennedy Town! read more
