    Fairweather High Grade on tap
    Christine M.

My beer buddy and I tried Fairweather's High Grade IPA at the Paradise theatre in Toronto and were wowed. I searched for it at the LCBO, but no dice. The only option remaining to us was to visit the wellspring itself. We folded our visit to Fairweather into a bike excursion... on the hottest weekend of 2023. When we arrived after a sweaty ride in the blazing sun, we were parched as desert mules. The patio was busy, but we got a table for 2 in partial shade and availed ourselves of the self-serve water canteen. Then we ordered two drinks at once - a can of Chuggy (2% alcohol beer spritzer in a can) and a draft High Test. Some other guests were eating food they'd ordered or brought in. Fairweather offers the much coveted Covered Bridge chips - $5 for a big bag! We fought the wasps for the creamy dill and won! I got the lemon Chuggy and buddy got the blood orange. I loved the lemon and wished for a case of this in my fridge. Super refreshing - fresh beer taste and buzz with a nice fruit fizz. No surprise I adored my High Test and ordered a second to fully rehydrate. Bought some cans to take home. Loved the chill patio vibe and the interior looked welcoming, too. Will be back!

    Delicious beer!

We visited in the summer time with our baby daughter and sat outside enjoying the weather on the patio. The space inside was clean and modern. The overall vibe of Fairweather was laid back and chill. I didn't try any of the beers but hubby loved the ones he tried and ended up getting a mixed 6 pack to go. When we visited they only had water for a non alcoholic drink option. Wish they offered more options other than water, but it was still an enjoyable experience.

After having just left another neighbourhood brewery a very short distance up the street, we passed by here more out of curiosity. This place appeared to be a bigger setup than the other place that we just left. The patio was definitely bigger and had pendant lights hanging over it. Very nice and cozy. Driven by curiosity, we went in to check it out and have a quick drink. We sat at the bar and were greeted by a very friendly guy who was happy to talk beer. With eight choices, my friend chose Small Hours, a low ABV sour stout with raspberries, vanilla and lactose. Profile: Strawberry, raspberry, vanilla, milk chocolate (according to their description). Since I was about to drive back to Toronto, I didn't have one of my own but I tried my friend's and the description was right on. I definitely tasted the berries and chocolate notes. With a nice atmosphere and friendly staff, I would definitely come back here!

Grain + Grit is also nearby!

I'm not familiar with this particular area of Hamilton, but there were quite a few bikers who came off their bikes. Grain + Grit, another brewery, is nearby, but surrounding area looks industrial to me. On a Saturday late afternoon, this place was lit! Soo loud. I could barely hear a convo from across the small table. Female bartender who served me was very friendly. There's no official "flight" system, you just select the pours that you want and they'll start a tab for you. Space is long and narrow. Place is unpretentious, but again, quite loud when busy. Beers that I did have were good!

A full sampling, don't do this on that patio when it's hot, they'll get warm quickly

Hubby and I were looking for something fun to do on a Saturday night and we settled on Collective Arts Brewing in Hamilton. It was our first time there and it's definitely a place worth revisiting. The front part is the tap room for beer sales, and if you drive to the back, you'll get to the outdoor beer garden (with lots of shade) and access to another huge indoor beer hall. We were famished and ordered from Mel's Deli - the sandwiches were hearty and flavourful. We ordered the saucy and spicy meatball hoagie and the not so hot cheesesteak, each were $19 and came with pickles and some kettle cooked chips. The sandwiches were hot, bun was super fresh and were loaded with various toppings and cheese. To pair with the sandwiches, you can order beer on top, canned beer or alcoholic slushies. I opted for a beer flight, 4 samplers of any of the beers they had on top. There are so many options that anyone can for sure find something that they'll like. And to top off the fun outing, line dancing started at 8pm that Saturday and everyone jumped in! A side note for those with kids and dogs, they are all welcome on site! I want to say that every other table had kids. If you're looking for a fun night out, whether it's date night, girls night out or even a family outing, you have to come here!

Thankfully, no live music on this particular Friday and it was a quiet time. Clifford has a big open space, lots of tables inside and out, several beers on tap and even a couple pinball machines. Well worth a visit. [Review 1469 of 2024 - 146 in Ontario - 22492 overall]

(Apparently, the beer/wine industry has been hit hard during the shutdowns, so it's difficult to keep afloat.) In an unassuming industrial area - aren't they all? - the interior is actually quite BIG and they even had pinball machines off to one side. It wasn't crowded at all on a Saturday afternoon, so there's quite a bit of room to keep your distance while enjoying some drinks indoors! (There's no outdoor seating - at least not when I visited.) I had a flight of lagers, IPA, & a Porter and although I usually drift towards the IPAs, their lagers were great too - quite refreshing and light! Bartender was friendly. Deducting a star because they didn't have 2 brews on tap for some reason that I forgot. So I wasn't able to try those, no biggie, picked them up in can form!

They had a good variety of beer styles to choose from, unfortunately time was limited, so we could only stay for 1. I got their "20 Hazy Years iPad, oddly named since they're just now celebrating 13 years in business...but still delicious. I'd absolutely return to this spot given the chance. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely revisit this brewery. Staff was friendly, beer was tasty, and the atmosphere was amazing!

Angelo saw my wife looking at the beer selections trying to find something I would like. He stepped in and asked several questions and curated a selection of Nickel Brook beers for me. Huge kudos to Angelo for some really amazing customer service. He clearly stepped out of what I assume a territory rep would normally be asked to do in patiently walking a customer who doesn't know much about beer through selections and making recommendations. While I would assume that sales are his primary responsibility, it was really refreshing to see a sales rep with this level of customer service for a single customer. All brand ambassadors in area reps should strive for his level of service and knowledge. To say that the beers were all awesome as an understatement. I'm a big fan of lots of the Ontario craft beers especially Collective Arts, but I have a new favorite and that's absolutely Nickel Brook. Angelo, if you get to read this, thank you so much! Service was fine, but there were a few flies and wasps flying around that really dampened our enjoyment of lunch. Fish and chips were ok - the fries were quite good while hot. The fish wasn't as good as The Squire on Locke. Schnitzel was good for a brewery - two huge pieces of pounded pork. The panko breading was interesting. The warm German potato salad served with it was fantastic and I liked that the entree came with a few asparagus spears. The biggest disappointment was probably the margherita pizza. Given the whole menu section dedicated to pizza, I expected better. The dough was fine - springy, though I'd personally prefer a bit more overall crisp. However, the red sauce was terrible. It's taste and texture made it seem as if the dough had been baked first, then toppings and spoonfuls of canned, unseasoned tomato sauce was spread on top right before being served. It was just weird. Finally, there's a kids menu, but there's no cheeseburger option, just a plain burger. Patio looks nice though, and there's a big parking lot.
