We moved from San Jose CA to Austin TX and used Fairprice Movers. They were one of the vendors my realtor referred me to so I booked my move in April for a move in end July 2018. Michelle and Nancy corresponded with me. They sent an estimator to look at my place and give me a quote. The guy came and took a cursory look without taking down the list of items and the end result was they gave a low quote for the move. On the day of the move the guys who came for the pickup told me that only half of their truck is what I get for the quoted price - a 1400 cubic feet volume. Since the quote we had hauled away many things which were there when the estimator came. At the end of the day the volume I was billed for was 2300 cubic feet which was the full truck. The price went up to double their initial quote. When I spoke to Michelle she outright denied that there was ever any estimator sent to my place. I forwarded her the email exchanged where they confirmed with me the time estimator was to meet me at my house. Then Nancy clarified that it was human error and they could not estimate correctly the exact amount of space it will take. But how can the estimate be half the actual and then they never gave an inventory list as the estimator had never prepared one so be warned this the trick they play with you to get the job - quote a low price to get you into contract and later claim estimate is error prone. For a layman who has no idea that 1400 cubic feet comes to half their truck and blindly trusts them is vulnerable at their hands. Then they picked my stuff and put in a local storage at San Jose and then assigned another company Grabel van lines to deliver our stuff in Austin. When the driver came he informed that over and above the price quoted to me earlier I will need to pay for shuttle service to deliver my stuff to my apartment as they cannot bring a 16 wheeler truck in apartment complex. When I emailed Fairprice I was informed by Nancy that it was in the contract that I signed when they picked up my stuff at San Jose that for any shuttle service at delivery there will be extra charges. So after paying double from their initial quote of 8k ( I paid 14k approx) now i was asked to pay another $1100 for shuttle service. This contract they give you on the day of pickup when you will have no time to read and they will not mention it to you and leave it you to be surprised with - as you want your things delivered. Yesterday the driver of the van lines got a uhaul truck and hired 4 local folks in Austin to deliver our stuff to us in our apartment. I learned a lesson that - ask for detailed estimation from movers so they cannot claim they could not predict the actual size since they did a lousy job estimating it intentionally to get the contract. - ask for complete contract before the pick up day and ask for all details to be explained and called out not left for you to read the fine prints After my review Nancy and owner Leon contacted me and addressed most of my concerns stated above. I have updated my rating of this company as a result of their good customer support and hope they will address all concerns regarding using a software for estimation so it is less error prone than a mere visual inspection and also ensure that customer is well-informed about any extra charges upon delivery and the quote calls out the expected cost of move for customer. read more

This company is incompetent and dishonest. Since my family and I contracted with them, I've found their number listed under several different names. They're also known as "Movers On Demand" and "Champions Movers," among others. In other words, here's what happens: a central office with a dispatcher provides a service to the subcontractor (an "owner-operator," someone who owns his own truck). The company only confirms with you the day before the job because it turns out they don't know who will be doing it. Before moving day, I called the office repeatedly and asked if they charged for shrink wrap, tape, boxes, blankets, gas, and travel time, and the office told me everything was included in the $80 hourly rate. On the morning my family and I were moving, the crew arrived an hour and a half late. The contract showed that none of what I'd been told about extra charges was true. In fact, they charge for everything except blankets. The travel time charge is known in mover jargon as "double drive" -- this means that travel time is doubled, and a fee is assessed according to that result. The hourly rate for travel time is $80. It took us 15 minutes to drive to the new dwelling, which because of Double Drive cost $40. When I learned all this, I called the office immediately, and was told that suddenly they had no oversight, and that these men in our house were not employees but subcontractors. My family and I were stuck having to make a snap decision whether to continue on the day we had to move, and we were now already exceeding our budget, before any work had even been done. We had carefully prepared the contents of our flat to be moved, but despite repeatedly being directed in their work, the movers went right ahead and emptied wardrobes and armoires, disassembled tables, and without permission unnecessarily wrapped pieces of furniture in shrink wrap, blankets, and tape -- using as much time and material as necessary to do as little work as possible. On arrival at the job, their time estimate for the work had been 3 hours, and at the pace they went it would have taken twice that. At the end of the 3-hour estimated time, my family and I were left with the job half done, pieces of furniture half-moved, and piles of belongings dumped on the floor at the old place. I would not recommend this company if it were the last one left on Earth. They're scoundrels. Update: After posting this review I received a call from the owner, Leon. He claimed to have been on vacation on the morning of the job, and said that if his company had used a subcontractor he was not responsible for the results. He claimed that my phone number was not in his system and that he did not employ the workers whose names I mentioned. In short, at every opportunity he passed the buck and avoided responsibility for shoddy work, and when I said I'd like my money back, he hung up. I will now seek redress with whatever body exercises governance over this company. read more

My housemate and I called Fairprice movers to help with our 2 bedroom house move, intercity to a storage unit. We pre-packed, and the 3-person Fairprice team was there on time, packed our whole house into their truck in just an hour including all of our large furniture, many boxes/odd items, and two mattresses. They managed to fit everything into the 10'x15' storage unit in a way that was still functional and thoughtful - it was tight, but it has still easy enough to move through the packed storage unit and get to all of our items. For example, at first we were confused as to why they put our small couch up on its side (fine btw, not damaging) and the two mattresses up on their sides, short sides to the door, right at the front of the unit. Then, we realized that when the couch is moved out (which is lightweight and easy to move) and the mattresses are pushed to the side, it forms a path all the way into the back of the storage unit which has made managing our things really easy. We were very impressed with their finesse, as the whole job was done in just 2 hours but they still handled our items with care and nothing was broken or damaged. We had very short drive from our former home to the storage unit (just under one mile, one trip), so they did not charge us for travel which was a courteous surprise. They also offered additional packing materials for sale including packing blankets and large cardboard boxes, and while we declined to keep them, they still used them during the moving process to speed it up, which was appreciated. Still, my housemate's mattress had no cover on it, but they wrapped the whole bottom tightly with plastic to keep it protected from the ground and floor of the truck at no extra cost which was very nice of them. As two single women who had never used movers before we were a little hesitant, but the team was very professional and understood exactly what we needed, so the relief of making our time-sensitive move easier was well worth the price (around $550 I think? for the 2-hour 2-bedroom house job by a 3-person team, no travel fees, plus a hefty tip for excellent service). I would definitely recommend Fairprice to anyone who needs help moving, and I would call them if I had to move again! In three words: efficient, courteous, careful. I would highly recommend Fairprice Movers to anyone needing to make a move of any sort. This was a very large move for me and because I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, I had not been able to completely finish all of the packing by my move date. The movers arrived on time. They called first to let me know when they expected to be at my former home. There were four movers and I walked around with the lead mover, Carlos to discuss certain concerns. Since there was extra packing to be done, this turned into a two-day move that now included storing my belongings overnight. Carlos and his team; Juan, Ivan and Erick did great. My former home had stairs which is always hard on movers. I had specifically ordered special packaging for my two flat-screen TVs and one vanity mirror and that all took place perfectly and the items arrived in great shape, not broken or anything. I may yet come across an item or two that might be broken, but that would be because I did a lousy job packing and or labeling or because I failed to point out that something might need more careful handling. It would not be because of the movers. On the second day following a four hour drive to my new home, the movers actually beat me and immediately began unloading the truck contents into the carport so that when I did arrive with the keys to the new house they could immediately begin moving the furniture into the various rooms. They placed the furniture in each of the rooms in specific locations that I pointed out and we're extra helpful in opening some items because again, being somewhat handicapped by my rheumatoid arthritis, it makes doing these things for myself much harder so the guys were great about that. They reassembled my bedroom sets and dresser with mirror all while being pleasant, funny, professional, kind and they were careful with all of my belongings and very understanding of my physical limitations. As everyone knows, moving is incredibly stressful and this one was as well but because of the team at Fairprice Movers, it was much better than I expected and I would highly, highly recommend them to anyone needing to make a move. Yes, the move went over budget but that had nothing to do with Fairprice Movers, that had more to do with the amount of belongings I had and my inability to get everything packed completely beforehand. And even with the move going over budget, it was still a reasonable overage cost. read more

I normally don't give feedback since I feel that unless my experience is exceptional, it's is just customer service and someone doing their job. I have to admit that when I hired Fairprice Movers, I first looked at the reviews, took them with a grain of salt and called. Not because the reviews were bad, but because the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. From the moment I spoke with Natalie, she treated me with professionalism and respect. It is a very difficult and stressful event when someone has to move, for whatever reason, and our move was no different. Natalie helped in a way that she could not know, she was calm, kind, and had the right answers to my questions. Natalie provided a quote during my first call with her, she communicated all that I needed to know and assured me that they could get the job done. The day before our move, Natalie called me and confirmed the appointment. She said that the driver would be calling me 1/2 hour before they showed up and gave me a window of time between 1 - 4PM. On to the day of the move, at 2:30, I received a call from the driver telling me he would be at our apartment complex at 3:00 PM. They arrive a few minutes before 3:00 and promptly began work. Unfortunately, one of the movers was not feeling well and needed to leave, but I didn't even know because another gentleman showed up to take his place, before I knew anything. The three men who moved us were amazing! They moved the entire apartment and into the new apartment (both locations having multiple stairs with one being up three flights and the other one flight). It was hot and they worked fast and careful. My daughter and I watched these men carry our furniture with care and precision. We were so impressed. The men (I wish I knew their names) were such a god send and made our move so much easier then we thought it would be. I can't thank them enough for the way the staff treated us and helped to make our move easy and stress-free. Thank you from our hearts! These guys are great! It was a great experience working with Fairprice-Movers when I had to move from San Jose to Fresno for my college. I contacted them electronically for a price quote and had one in a few hours, very professional. The best thing is, they also provide packing service which is something I need critically when I only had myself to prepare for this move. On the day of the move, they were on time as promised and their staff was just very helpful to provide the packing service too. They were very careful at taking care of my belonging and perfectly and safely tucked all my things in boxes and bubble wrap, as I had a lot of fragile items like aquariums and glassware. I went out for a while to run some errands and before I know it, they were done packaging all my stuff and was already loading my things into the truck. It was really almost hassle free, and they were very professional in handing my things. It was hard work moving my things from my 2nd floor apartment in San Jose to the ground floor for loading but they did it perfectly. After a 3 and 1/2 hours drive from san jose to Fresno, my things finally arrived at my apartment. My apartment was on the third floor here in Fresno, they carried it up and set everything neatly and nicely. No scratches or dentures to my furniture at all. Very neat work, and no banging or too much noise at all which was perfect as I did not want to piss my new neighbors off. It was like a 103 degrees and they had no compliant whatsoever, their staff took small breaks here and there, but in no time at all everything was in my apartment. The loading/unload crew was amazing and it came in right at the quoted cost. When it comes time to move again I will not hesitate to contact Fairprice Movers because they are just great. read more

Fair price movers: Excellent! Definitely recommend to friends. They were prompt. We booked a friday move on Tuesday to start between 8-9am, they started at 8:30am and they were able to load my two bedroom apartment from 8:30-11:20am. They were abel to load everything into the big truck with three men: Carlos, Nicholas, Felton who are a great team and work well together. I had packed most of my boxes before they came and had many things lined up. However, I also had odd shaped things that could not fit in a standard box, they were able to shrink wrap the items such as a doll house and exercising equipment. my table and cabinets were wrapped in blankets. The shrink wrap, and blankets, and tape are included in the initial 3 hour charge, which was great! They also let you use their wardrobe boxes, (I had already packed my clothes, but if not, it would have also been included in the charge.) They wrapped my TV in crates, which is $35, & worth it considering we didn't want our big flat screen to be damaged. Plus they put a lot of cardboard, wrap, and tape to ensure it is secured. They were very courteous and hard workers. The team is very honest, when a small nick on an old glass cabinet happened, they imminently told me. I could not even tell it was there, unless really examining it closely. The move was smooth, walls were not harmed, the furniture was in great condition. And, despite our drought, it rained on moving day!!! But, the team pressed on, and were able to shrink rap my items so that there was no water damage. At 11:20-12:20 we drove 2 miles and loaded an extra storage room, with washer dryer and 20 more boxes. Then we drove 5 miles to my new place to unload at a two-story house. Everything went perfectly! Excellent Service from Fairprice Movers - Highly Recommend Aldo's Team! I cannot recommend Fairprice Movers enough, especially Aldo's team! From start to finish, their service was absolutely exceptional. We moved to and from a single family home. They arrived on time, which immediately set a positive tone for the day. The entire team was incredibly careful with all of our items. They were also very communicative, asking thoughtful questions to ensure every piece of furniture and every box was handled exactly as we wished. Beyond their professionalism, they were genuinely nice and fun to be around, making a stressful day much more enjoyable. We appreciated their attention to detail in protecting our homes and belongings. They wrapped all of our furniture in blankets. Additionally, they laid out carpets at both the old and new locations to protect our floors. Their pricing was very fair and competitive. The speed at which they loaded the truck was truly impressive, efficient but still careful. Upon arrival at our new destination, they continued to check in with us ensuring that all boxes and furniture were placed precisely where we needed them in each room. This saved us many trips up and down stairs. A significant part of our move involved an entire woodshop, which can be particularly challenging due to the heavy and delicate nature of the equipment. Aldo's team handled it with remarkable expertise and care, demonstrating their versatility and professionalism. Had a horrible experience. I had asked for a quote and provided my email address and phone number. I called them after I received their quote and the lady I spoke you ( Kelly or Nancy) hung up on me without answering my questions. I gave them a bad review(Unfortunately on two different listings as I didn't know which location I had called, so yelp cancelled it.) So what do they do? They take the phone number I had provided in the quote and post a fake ad in Craigslist list about a free couch and put my phone number to it!!!!!(luckily it was a Google number and I configured to get only email of the voice messages) I researched and figured out it was them after my inbox was flooded with messages regarding the free couch. I emailed the owner who said he will look into the issue. Voila! The post was removed!! I have attached the screenshots of the emails I sent. It was pretty shocking for me to experience Cybercrime just because I posted a bad experience in yelp. The person I emailed informed that he had fired that employee but I don't know if its true. I don't even know if it was her or owner themselves who did this! Anyways I am planning to lodge a complaint at cybercrime department regarding this. I have all the voice messages and their transcripts in my email and I searched for the original craigslist post (it was pretty difficult) along with my number and name. This is the WORST moving company out there! BEWARE. They clearly pepper this Yelp space with their own doctored "5 star" reviews, but if y'all look carefully through here at many, many of the actual reviews you will clearly see a dismal pattern emerge. They are crooks and even worse: they clearly think the customer is an idiot. Beyond insulting. They tack on every imaginable charge under the sun once they arrive at your residence on your moving day. They take advantage of your vulnerability and basically hijack your move. There is no recourse and attempts to reach a "Supervisor" or "Manager" are stonewalled, or they pretend you have accidentally contacted the wrong mover. We've checked and these clowns do business under almost half a dozen names, all just fake websites. They pretend to do business as California Movers and other names, and this owner guy evidently named Leon plays this ridiculous, wounded Who's On First game wasting the customer's time all while pretending to "care" when you call to lodge a legitimate complaint. You will not be satisfied with your moving experience. These lazy movers showed up two days ago and actually told my brother & me our "moving boxes were too heavy" among other ridiculous statements. The job sucked, they lied about the charges, barely moved anything (too heavy, remember?), took our money, and left a mess with two days of a U-Haul and our own sweat equity to get the job done. I was kicking myself after I found them online randomly without reading these Yelp reviews myself. Lesson learned. We had an excellent experience with this company despite the horrible apartment complex we were moving out of! First of all, as many other reviews have said, Nancy was extremely helpful and professional in coordinating everything for the move. There were no surprise fees anywhere and the quote + packing materials matched exactly what we had been estimated. The first crew that came out for a Sunday move was led by Felton, and they arrived on time and ready to work...except all of the elevators in our apartment complex had stopped working 20min prior to their arrival and we didn't realize this until we were going down to meet them. As we were on the 5th floor, and far from the road as well, the move was essentially not do-able until the elevators started working again. The crew waited for an hour at no charge, and when the elevators were still not functioning, we ended up having to make the decision to cancel for that day. Despite how horrible and frustrating this experience was, the crew were very patient and understanding, and they actually managed to make me laugh despite how upset I was, so I really appreciated that. Luckily, when I called on Monday morning to explain what had happened, there were no issues at all in rescheduling for Tuesday morning. On Tuesday morning, the crew was Juan, Carlos, and Nicolas. They arrived on time as well, and moved very quickly and efficiently and helped us get out of there while the elevators were still working. I have absolutely no complaints at all, other than that I wish we could have moved out on Sunday instead, but the company did a great job for us despite this minor glitch, so thank you to everyone involved!! :) read more

This is only the second time of ever giving a review so I may be all over the place here. I relocated from Tracy to Fremont with Fairprice Movers. The name is the beginning of the reason for 5 starts. It was a fair price. I found them on the internet. E-mailed them and had a response within minutes. I am not saying everyone will hear that fast but I did. I gave them a little info and wham bam it was done. I even got a discount for my mom since she is a senior...shh don't tell her that! I received an estimated quote via e-mail. Can't get much easier then that. They were on time, courteous and FAST! I of course was one of those people moving that thought they had it together...well I didn't. They kept it moving. Wrapping things with blankets, shrink wrap and tape. Took beds apart. It took a while...we have way too much and will next be on the other site where you sell things...but they got it done. We left there and went to Fremont. Even with a little traffic they got there fast. And as I expected unloading was even faster. I was standing in the garage being the director of the items that I didn't mark so they would put them in the right place. They stacked and stacked for me. If I ever have to move again I will call them back. I just wish that I could remember all of their names. Corinthos I believe his name was "the one in charge". They all worked great together. Fairprice Movers is by far the best moving company I've dealt with over my many moves over the years! They're everything you want in a moving company, and just like the name says, for a very fair price. From the very beginning, the experience was painless. I called the office and had a great chat with Anna, who was friendly and really helpful in setting up my move. Their online portal for estimating the move, viewing documents, and more was incredibly helpful. And most of all, on the day of, the crew who showed up really delivered! They arrived right at the start of their 1-hour arrival window, on time to the minute. They got right to work, wrapping and protecting a few of our things that could use a little more padding for protection in the truck (and I believe the cost of extra packing materials is included in the move -- not an upsell, which was great). They strategically loaded the truck so that everything from our house fit (turns out we have a lot of stuff!) and used the utmost care in navigating a few tight corners and doorways within our home. We also had a few bulky, heavy items and the guys moved them gently and delicately. In both homes, they made sure to protect the floors, and took care bringing items through doorways. They move quickly, but carefully! We also really appreciated how thoughtfully they loaded the items into our new home. They put all the items in the appropriate rooms, and stacked the boxes out of the way so that the room were still easy to walk through. Awesome experience at every step of the way. First, they replied to my request quickly. Then, the website is awesome, you can describe your items to give them a good idea. But even better, a rep calls and does a video walk through to get a better idea of estimate. I had lots of questions, and got quick answers through the website and by text. Then the day came, and it got better. Augustine (I think that's his name) was phenomenally stellar beyond excellent in actually doing the move. He came with a crew of several guys. They moved everything, very clear about what was going and not, what items to be careful with, which could go on the bottom. They put small boxes into bigger boxes, they even packed up my furniture, lamps, etc, that I didn't know how to pack. And efficient -- all out to the truck in under 2 hours. Next we drove, and Augustine and his 2 guys showed up at our new house on time as promised. They moved everything inside, reassembled my desk, so helpful about which room to leave the boxes in. Moved stuff around as I needed without hesitation. All without touching any of the walls or leaving any scratches, all of my stuff in the exact same condition as when we left! I would give Augustine and his guys 100 stars if yelp allowed it. And the final price was very close to the original estimate they gave me. I definitely recommend Fairprice Movers, they keep in touch, take care of everything, reasonable price and stick to estimate, greatly relieved that something stressful like a move really turned out to just be a summer's breeze.
