I have to say that the previous YELP complaints I read about cigarette stank, weed aroma, hole-ridden towels AND the sounds from the number of trains passing thru are the LEAST of the Fairground Inn's problems! On the night of the Bomb Cyclone 2024, we thought we could make the drive to Lake Wenatchee from the SeaTac. Airport but traffic was horrible and the inclement weather was not permitting! According to the Washington Department of Transportation webcam, our future drive thru Steven's Pass was a complete white out with 80 mph winds. While driving, we could hear the wind howling and discovered that a few trees were knocked over, we ran over two of them with our Dodge RAM. It was also getting dark ....so it was in our best interest to turn around or keep going and possibly get stranded or DIE. We ended up turning around in Skykomish and drove to Monroe. We stayed in the ONLY room available in the nastiest hotel I've ever stayed in! Since all rooms were booked nearby and we were brain dead, this was our only option. The weather was only getting worse and we were exhausted, it was in our best interest to STOP driving! We stayed upstairs in room 202. Upon entering, my eyes immediately started watering, our room had the most putrid overwhelming smell. It was HORRIBLE! It literally smelled like baby diarrhea combined with the most unbearable floral potpourri. Both smells were equally bad. Aside from this, the carpet was super stained, the fire alarm was ripped out of the ceiling and the underside of the mattress was covered in what was once a puddle of blood and the bathroom door had holes where it was punched and kicked thru. In fact, even our front door looked like it had been kicked in at some point from the repair work done around the door knob. For all we know, that weird pungent diarrhea smell was the smell of the substantial amount of blood on the underside of our mattress (which I should also mention is a major BIOHAZARD that must break a number of health code violations). It's also possible that the gross floral smell x 10000 was obviously an attempt to cover up that smell. Every now and then my bf would start coughing and gagging bc the room smelled so gnarly. I literally could not even breathe thru my nose after an hour (which was a GOOD thing!) bc the potpourri smell was super toxic and full of chemicals! Also, we were awakened at 3am since our dog stood up and growled bc someone was looming in front of our door for 2-4 minutes! Pretty sure the fire alarm was ripped out from meth smoking. When my bf went to return our room key in the morning, he mentioned everyone in the joint looked like a character that hung out in the Crystal Palace in Breaking Bad. He said that a few of them were slamming coffee and hoarding bagels from the continental breakfast. Honestly, that was also not that big of a deal compared to the horror scene that was our mattress and the STANK of our room. I felt like our entire experience could have been a segment from the Hotel Season of American Horror Story. Unfortunately, I am not exaggerating ANYTHING. read more

We stayed here on the night of July 4th, after attending races at Evergreen Speedway/fairgrounds. It is a walkable distance to the fairgrounds, which is nice. There is lots of dining and shopping available nearby. A train infrequently passes behind the motel, and they offer earplugs to guests. I always take white-noise with me whenever I stay in a motel or hotel, as I am a very light sleeper, so the train did not bother me. The room was clean, and the mattress was comfortable. (I read bad reviews before about the beds.) They allow pets. A simple breakfast in the morning (i.e., cereal, yogurt, bagels, hard-boiled eggs, fruit juice) is provided for guests. Yes, it is an older motel, but it has some definite perks if you are visiting the fairgrounds. read more

ALL "pet friendly rooms" are always $132/night. You can't book a cheaper room rate and then add $20 for your pet. Too expensive. I went to Motel 6 in Everett and was able to book a room 3 nights in a row this past weekend for $60/night AND NO EXTRA CHARGE FOR PETS. They never charge extra for pets - just let them know at front desk when checking in. read more

Pretty good motel, really not a lot of luxury but I mean shoot, it was cheap, bed was comfy, tv had pretty cool channels (HBO, sports, etc) and the location was cool, right next too the bar and buzz inn. The check in and check out people were nice, WiFi worked for a 3 hour conference call and I was able to sleep thru all the trains. Stayed 2nd, 3rd and 4th of September. The entire hotel has a very strong odor they triggered a migraine. The rooms, other than that were ok. Location is great, lots of restaurants and stores close by. However the worst part was being charged for the room ( for one night) 3 times. A month later and I am still waiting on my last refund. Would not stay there again!!!!!!! read more

This motel is disgusting and run down. The kitchenette rooms require you to bring your own pots & pans, dishware, and utensils. There is a rail and road crossing a few feet from the motel. Consequently, the train blows its whistle every couple hours throughout the night beside this building. You can get free ear plugs at reception, but they barely help. The rooms are supposed to be non-smoking, but our room smelled of strong cigarette odour. By morning, all our clothes absorbed the cigarette smell. Breakfast: Descent selection of carb rich food. Cereal, bread, pop tarts, bagels, etc. Last words: Only stay here if it is a last resort and you are a heavy sleeper that can sleep through a trains air horn. read more

Stayed here for 3 nights Sep 2, 3rd and 4th. Bed was comfortable, tv had pretty good channels (watched all of Harry Potter one day/night) and overall it was a good experience. Could've used an extra towel, but I also didn't ask so maybe that's on me. The trains that were running thru didn't wake me up either since I was on the north side, so not facing the tracks. Overall, I'll stay here again if I'm in town, I would give it 5 stars as well. The person at check in and check out were very nice as well. read more

I don't believe I've ever been yelled at for something so small in my life. So my husband and I travel for work and have stayed at this hotel for the past six year while working the fair. The ownership has changed and since the pandemic and it seems that this place is falling apart. The owner tried to charge us for a shower head that was broken before we arrived, which and we fixed ourselves. I had asked for a blow drier, just ended up buying one for the store -all of theirs are broken. But while I was in the shower, alone in the hotel the door had opened and slammed closed.. it was very uncomfortable. We didn't get a cleaning service for the duration of the time we were there and had our trash brought BACK into our rooms I was honestly speechless. The owner then refused to give us towels to shower with For we had used one to clean the dirty floor blow our sink and was wrecked. We then again simply implied that we service our own room, Vacuum, scrub floors and counters and make our beds with clean linen and bring the old linen to them. The owner refused and told us we were dirty and continued to shout at us in front of all of her staff. -At this point I was sick to my stomach and decided to record the duration of our stay - The owner began to charge me for the towel that I had in my hand. 2times over. I had mentioned to miss Kim I do not like being charged at or touched. I was ready to defend myself and also defuse the situation. We tried to calm her down by working with her She then told us she was going to charge our card for the shower, bedding and towels and to also to go get all of our own. Which at that point, we already called another hotel to get out of this one as quick as we can. I would NOT recommend staying here. She should not be running a hotel. I'm shocked. I've stayed in a lot of places and had some crazy beautiful adventures with hostels, hotels and bnb, But this was over and beyond the most disturbing thing we have seen. We are in contact with the better business bureau & hotel services and hopefully these awful beings won't be able to harass anyone else! I recommend to you do yourself a favor and book a Room the street for $20 more than their rate and save yourselves the uncomfortable experience this place holds for you. This motel is priced way to high for what you get. A dirty bathroom, a bed that is probably 20+ years old and a very small tv. We felt like we were walking into 1990. Also let's not forget about the holes in the towels and the train horn at 5 am (yes I know this is out of their control). read more

My son and his girlfriend had a confirmed reservation to this "motel" tonight 8/11/2023. They got there to check in and were told that they were double booked and the other person had not shown up yet, but they were going to hold it for that person instead. They confirmed that they had the reservation, but they would not check them in. This is bad business all around. They do not want your business they just want to make people look for other places knowing they are all filled up when there is an event in town. I am disgusted at the way they treat their customers. Do yourself a favor and don't make a reservation and hope that they actually let you have a room. Go somewhere else that does want your business. read more

If I could give a lower rating I would. We visited for the WMRF that has recently moved to Monroe. Room rates were affordable and since our stay last year wasn't terrible we made reservations for this past weekend for the 26th and 27 of July, reservations were made in February this year. We received a confirmation email on the 26th, confirming two queen beds on the ground floor. When we arrived Friday night they told us they only had a room with one bed. When asked why they ignored our reservation (paid with credit card) the response was that they need the money so they rent first to people that are on some kind of government plan so they just over book and hope someone cancels. The whole town was booked for this event, and we stood no chance of having a place to stay at this point. So, when an irate man came and threw his room key at them saying the room was too disgusting, there was a creeper hanging around smoking and scaring his kids and demanded a refund, we took that room. The room last year wasn't awesome, but wasn't bad. Boy! this year was really bad! Not as bad as having to have slept in my car, but we will not be back and have warned others that attend WMRF in the future to avoid this place. The carpet was gross... I can live with that to a point, but there was something disgusting splattered across the ceiling, left overs in the mini fridge and a moldy hole in the ceiling in the bathroom. I won't even mention what the shelf in the closet looked like. It appears the only cleaning that is done is the very basic, wipe down main surfaces, sink, toilet and tub/shower. read more

I recently stayed at the Fairground Inn with my family. Upon arriving and beginning registration for our reservation, the man handling registration kept referring my mom (who booked and paid for our stay) to the pet policy and the related pet deposit, despite her repeatedly telling him we did not have any pets with us. He then told her there was an additional $100 security deposit. There was no notice of this on their website, on the booking site, nor in the reservation details. $100 is a lot of money for some of us who must budget and save for a trip like this. It could mean the difference between being able to go back home or being stuck in the city we are visiting. The cost of the room itself was overpriced as it was, without adding on surprise fees or deposits. It is important to note that my mother, who uses a walker and sometimes a wheelchair due to not being able to use her legs very much, cannot get around well. It is a real chore for her to get up and even get across a room. When we went to our room, we found that the door frame was damaged and the door itself could easily be pushed open with pressure applied. We notified them of this, and they sent maintenance out to look at it. We were moved to a new room. Fortunately, this new room was next door to the one we originally had been given. We also had a roll-away bed as requested, for my child to sleep on. There was no physical damage that we found in this room, so we moved all our things. The next day, after spending time with extended family nearby, we returned to our room to find ants, on the table, floor and the roll-away bed, near the door. The air conditioner was very old and very loud, but the room was stiflingly hot if we did not use it. Any time we asked the hotel people anything, the man would answer as if we were being unreasonable. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a secure door, no ants, and a heads-up about $100 extra being required for registration. We will NEVER stay at this hotel. We will NEVER recommend it to anyone. We will ALWAYS warn others against staying there. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here Thursday night (incredibly run down place) and the extra pillow we got from the front desk smelled liked marijuana. Anyway, my boyfriend works in Monroe and with the snowstorm, he drove out there tonight (Sunday) so he could make it to work in the morning and he was unable to stay where he works as it was already full. So I called The Fairground Inn hoping to get him a room. A man not very nicely answered the phone and I politely asked if they had a room available for the night. He said they were closed because of the weather so completely bemiffed I asked, "Out of curiously, if you're closed, why is the front desk answering the phone?" To which he responded, "For auditing and cleaning, thank you goodnight" (in the most snotty voice) and then hung up the phone on me. I was polite the whole time and completely flabbergasted that a hotel that has people and rooms would close when there are people stranded with nowhere to stay and then to hang up on me and talk to me that way was just the icing on the cake. For a cheap motel it wasn't bad with one problem it wasn't cheap! The beds were VERY uncomfortable, stains on the headboards (shiver) and TERRIBLE water pressure. At one point in my shower I had to stand directly under the shower head to try and rinse as it trickled out. All that aside you better be a deep sleeper because the multiple trains going by sounding their horns a few yards behind the building will give you a start through out the night. Don't plan on a good or even mediocre nights sleep. However it is close to everything and the staff is friendly. I didn't partake in the free breakfast because to be honest I was afraid to. I booked a room for 1 night...wedding situation, the Saturday before I had a family emergency, and couldn't make the flight. I booked thru booking.com when I called and explained the situation they were very unfriendly, and refused to waive the booking fee, and charged me for the hotel...the family I had there that was able to make the wedding stated that it is a small family owned in, and that the staff and hotel were not a pleasant stay. DO NOT STAY AT THE FAIRGROUNDS INN. DO NOT STAY AT ALL COSTS. DO NOT SAY I DIDNT WARN YOU. My mom and I are staying here while we wait to get our plumbing fixed. Our first night was decent, decent beds, showers, room. All for an okay price. They beds were creaky, and hard, but manageable. But, during the night my mother's bed frame broke, and her whole bed was at a downward angle grade. So, my dad asks to move us rooms. We got a king suite, which was very much an upgrade from the double queen suite. All was well until the owners came and banged on our door at 10pm and told us we had to move rooms NOW because someone was checking in at 2pm the next day and this suite was not an animal suite. Keep in mind we moved into this room NOT EVEN 5 HRS AGO AND ITS 10PM AT NIGHT. My mom had just gotten out of the shower, I was about to get ready for bed, and they demand we move NOW. They damn near pushed their way into our room; we have two dogs. One who is a great escape artist and I almost lost her because they were so inconsiderate. The owners sit and yell at me and my mother, will not show us an inch of respect or a lick of compassion. I tell them I'll call my dad, who works at 3am, to come down and work this out. That got them to leave us alone in our room. So my dad comes down, and these people genuinely forget that others have to work on the labor day holiday, and was totally inconsiderate about everything UNTIL my dad TOLD HER that he wakes up at 3am for work each day. She also forgot that her 1st hotel room failed, which is why we had to move rooms; and since she forgot my dad graciously reminded her. Then she says, "you can stay until the morning but your need to move tomorrow morning". So it's the next morning, I politely go to ask for our new room keys and return the laundry room key which we took at 8PM the night before. She then tells me I no longer need to move rooms, but I need to be out on Tuesday at 11am. She also gives me a lecture saying I had the key for "too long" and that others were ask for it.... at 11pm at night. They will not let us reinstate our visit until, AS IF WE'D EVEN WANT TO AT THIS POINT. As we politely try to let them know someone in the next room is smoking, a man comes out and yells at us to leave immediately; again, even though we have paid. She also tells us she's "booked out and to check the availability online". Well, I checked the availability and as far as I can see our room is available til Wednesday. So not only are the owner forgetful, their liars too. I'm sorry, but we paid for sun-tue. We are not leaving, we shouldn't be treated this crappy either. This is the worst customer service I've had at a hotel; and I stay at the CHEAPEST hotels in yakima. I have yet to see anyone else be treated this way during my stay. As a flight crewmember for 34 years, I've seen old, worn, & ugly. All ok when you need to sleep and shower. HOWEVER, this place is unacceptable on nearly every level. Carpet and all surfaces are disgusting. No water pressure. Toilet barely worked. No temp control. Open window? No. Person next door stood outside every hour, smoking by NO SMOKING sign. Called front desk for an extra towel (you get 2 tiny, thin ones) but they don't answer. Inside every drawer was filthy, unusable. You will hear every snoring guest, & don't forget the Hwy 2 traffic out front, &, SURPRISE -SEVERAL tracks of 24/7 trains out back. To add insult to injury, note my pic of their accusatory placard threatening police action should your take anything from their inventoried rooms! Like I'd want anything from their nasty motel. Spend the $ and go anywhere else if you care to rest. One star for the tiny microwave, and mini fridge (which needed defrosting, of course.) PS the breakfast is not breakfast. read more

This a very "homey" and family-friendly motel. I lived in the Skykomish Valley 1986 - 2015 and remember this place being a pig-sty and haven for trouble. The owners now have done a great job! Nice people, offer a decent room at a fair rate. With the fan blowing @ night our room on the Hwy 2 side - we never heard traffic nor the train. Note that the train thru the valley is a welcome sound to me. I recommend this place if you are looking for the basics. read more

Don't stay in any of the rooms on the rear side of building unless you love getting woken up by trains the entire night. A good portion of the rooms are about 30-40' from train tracks and the trains use their horn RIGHT outside the rooms all night and morning. i honestly quite shocked to see such a low rating for this place. but after reading what 80% of the reasoning is i see why. see some reviewers like to apparently give bad ratings for things beyond the hotels control like the trains scheldule. so i will give u an honest review of what is actually within the staff and bussiness`s control. i booked online through booking.com like i normally do and specify im traveling with an infant under 1 years old. check in was easy and quick and when traveling alone with just a infant that is always much appreciated. i expected to placed on an upper level cause it seems i always get placed high up which i hate cause it just makes things harder to move into the room when u have baby u have to lug up a down allowing only one free hand yet the baby alone has three bags. but luckily they provided me with ground floor room which makes easier with the baby. the room seemed perfect for a baby it felt very baby proof already without my adding anything and as i always do in all rooms i stay in i go over every surface and flooring with a white towel before i allow my baby to touch any of it and this is the only room that the towel actually was still white infact that room was so immaculate i almost was tempted for once to not clean the room before i stayed in it . it was overall a prefect stay. read more

I found this place to be one of the most disgusting hotels I have ever stayed in. The toilet would not flush and the shower would not drain... I literally stood in water up to my ankles. Although it was a non-smoking room, it reeked of stale cigarettes and cheap perfume. The smoke alarm appeared dingy yellow most likely from smoke. The table was balanced by a single screw and the carpet was disgustingly filthy - I was terrified to walk barefooted as my socks instantly turned black from the carpet. The bed sheets had strands of long hair under the bottom sheet and would not stay fitted. The best part was checking out!! After voicing my concerns and complaints, I was denied a refund or a discount! I do not recommend staying at the Fairground Inn - Monroe WA! It was a very unpleasant stay! read more

So, I rated it two stars, but the place really, really isn't bad for a motel. It's just that I've experienced so much better and I travel A LOT. The staff is nice. Everyone was friendly. The room appeared to be clean and spacious. I had a queen bed, a love seat, a table, and two chairs. The bathroom was spacious. The toilet seat had cigarette burn marks on it. Do to weather conditions my 70 yr old mother and teenage sister were not able to get back to the house. A very wonderful woman booked them a room here and wanted to use her credit card to pay for it. They took the reservation and her credit card information but when my elderly mother and sister arrived there they refused to check my mother in because she didn't have the credit card with her because of that my elderly mother and sister had to sleep in the car in the snow. Instead of trying to make exceptions to what the norm is based on the unusual circumstances of this crazy snow storm that we had in our area which has made many of the roads not drivable they just flat-out refused they didn't care that she was going to be stuck sleeping in her car in the cold. I think that's horrible that they'd rather have her freeze to death in her car then try to do what they could to help. The person booking the room and paying for it even called the hotel telling them that she was fine with them charging her card even though she wasn't there she just did not want this elderly woman my mother to have to sleep in her car all night it was an emergency I even tried to call and the guy yelled at me and hung up. No one at the front desk mentions that there is a super loud train that passes ever hour multiple times and blares its horn. I had to go next door to Rite aid and buy ear plugs and it still woke me up all night long. It seems like there are possibly some longer term tenants living at this hotel as well. The toilet roll doesn't even fully roll. It goes a half turn and stops so you won't use too much tp. There is no coffee in the room at all. Again, I went to Rite aid and bought 2 cups and some instant just so I would have something in the morning. The sheets were rough, the carpet stained and burned and the soap was harsh. Our room had a sofa blocking a door to the next room with no lock. Probably the worst hotel experience I've ever had especially considering the room was $100. Go somewhere else unless you love trains. read more
