We love The Fairfield Area Humane Society! They are an awesome group of people. So kind and animal loving. We adopted our two cats Cali ( a Tortie) and Abby ( a Calico) from TFAHS. Even on their follow up care they wonderful staff was so good to them and to me. My husband and I would recommend to anyone looking to save a cat or dog and give them a new forever home this is the place. Ken & Susie Draper read more

We brought our new kitten for his first check up and vaccines. We left the vet at 3:00 with a frisky purring kitty who fell over dead at 6:00. The vet receptionist simply said she was sorry to hear this and when I asked if possible alwrgic reaction to medication, she simply said she never heard of such and again "Sorry to hear you kitten died. I will tell the doctor." We never received a return call. :( read more

Returning to Lancaster changing vets was harder than my doctors. BUT my experiences here have undeniably rates this facility 5 star. The community leadership for our pet kids is impeccable. My high standards stemmed from having a 19 year older chihuahua and her weakened fragile condition. Precious now enjoys Kaitlyn the mani pedi specialist or should I say our favorite. Go for it they are loving and dedicated to our babies read more

We had a wonderful experience adopting a little mutt puppy from the Fairfield Area Humane Society. The staff was super nice and helpful through the entire process. We went on a Saturday expecting it to be packed and it was! I only wish there was more space for meet and greets. Unfortunately, there is only one room and it makes it a little difficult to play with the dogs. I applied for a specific puppy online on a Friday night and then went in the following morning to meet her. Another family had an application in before ours, but they had also applied for several other dogs, so they let us meet her Incase they ended up not being interested in that particular dog. They also suggest that we meet the puppy's sister. The other family ended up with the first puppy, but we ended up loving the sister and got her. $180 dollars for a 10 week old puppy that includes shots/spay. This ends up being much cheaper than getting a free dog from a friend and taking them to the vet for 4-5 rounds of shots. We take her back for her next round in about a month and they are covered in the adoption fee. read more

I went here yesterday to help a friend. She was adopting a lab mix. The adoption fees vary based on the dog. They have an adoption room for you to spend time with the dog. There's a few chairs and a couch. The couch is obviously just a large dog toy. One of the cushions has been torn to pieces and Boomer the dog she adopted helped with that. The staff didn't seem too knowledgeable about the dogs, but they were nice. It was clean and there were a lot of people in and out while we were there. read more

I really though long and hard whether I should write a review, but if it helps someone else not prematurely get attached to an animal then it's well worth it. Firstly, I have absolutely nothing against the Fairfield Area Humane Society or any of its employees/volunteers. Everyone we talked to have been very polite and helpful. I would highly recommend them. We went in to look for a dog to not only be a companion for our dog but we have really been wanting another dog to add to the family. We spotted a Yorkie right away and were told she was a voluntary surrender. We spent some time with her and instantly had a connection. We filled out the paperwork and were told she was to be spayed on Tuesday and we could pick her up the following day. When I hadn't heard anything I called Wednesday morning and was told she wasn't able to be spayed on Tuesday due to the backlog of other animals waiting to see the vet. We were told she was being spayed that day and call on Thursday. I waited until shortly after noon Thursday to check on her and was told she was ready to go. We planned to head there shortly thereafter and were excited to bring her home. I received a phone call about 20-30 minutes afterwards and was told they were unable allow us to adopt her because a family member of the person who surrendered them said they were coming to get the dogs, and the humane society didn't want to get into a legal dispute. I reluctantly understood and get why they didn't want to fight the decision, but it doesn't take away the many questions I had afterwards (and after many phone calls I still couldn't get any legal advise). Again, I have nothing at all against the humane society or the people that work there, but if you want to adopt an animal that has been voluntarily surrendered please make sure all the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed. read more

I was conflicted about writing this review, as I don't want to discourage anyone from adopting any dog in need. However, this situation is weighing on us heavily so I think our story needs to be told as a cautionary tale. My daughter recently lost her beloved dog to hemangiosarcoma of the spleen. It was unexpected and quick. She was searching to adopt another when she found Buck at the Fairfield County Dog Adoption Center. It was love at first sight! She put in her application and was quickly called to say she was approved. We live two hours away so my daughter asked if they could hold him or could we pay the adoption fee over the phone. No they said. She practically begged several times by phone and email and each time the answer was no, no exceptions. Absolutely no holds and it was first come first served. My husband and I were in the car making the trip while she was talking to them. They opened at 11:00 and we got there at 11:45. I anxiously told Angel at the desk that we would like to adopt Buck and she said he was still there but was on hold. What????? On HOLD?? Yes, there were no holds allowed EXCEPT for the lady who wanted him had to go home (40 minutes away) and get her dog for a compatibility test. So no holds EXCEPT for that? Why didn't she bring her other dog in the first place if that was a concern? So here we were 2nd in line but had to wait for two hours for the lady to go home, get her dog, and then decide if they were compatible. Which of course they were so Buck went home with her. My daughter wrote an email to the administrator who spent a lot of time telling her all the scenarios in which we wouldn't have gotten Buck if their policies were different. HOWEVER - if they would have stuck to the policy that is in place now that we were told over the phone and by email multiple multiple times Buck would have been ours. Plain and simple. She was there first, I agree. But then she LEFT. And while Buck was waiting for this lady for two hours while she went home to get her dog, Buck could have already been traveling home with his forever family. There was another gentleman who also waited there for the two hours she was gone, also hoping to adopt Buck. So there were two families ACTUALLY IN THE FACILITY READY TO TAKE HIM HOME while the one who eventually took him home wasn't there. There is no way this was fair or just. Angel at the desk seemed to not understand our frustration. Well we were told NO HOLDS multiple times that morning BY HER only to be told he was on hold BY HER when we arrived. Please please update your policy or make it more clear. This was heartbreaking to begin with and Angel acting like she was confused as to why we were upset just made the situation worse. read more
