In March, I purchased 2 silkies from Dawne. We had several phone and text conversations. She constantly raves about her passion for breeding silkies and her 20+ years experience. I clearly stated that I live in a residential area, and can not have roosters. Her response was that with her experience, she is able to tell which is a rooster, and if I really want to be positive I get a hen, purchase the adolescent ones which she is positive are hens. I was willing to pay the $30 price vs. $13 for the baby chicks that she wasn't 100% positive about. Fast forward to one month later, one of the silkies start crowing early in the morning..... we have a rooster! When I initially text her, she is apologetic saying it doesn't happen often but "sometimes they sneak through" she said she would replace it. (SEE screenshot picture #1) It got more complicated because she's a breeder and can not take the silkie back without being quarantined for 30 days and she didn't have the means to do it. She agreed that I can give him to a happy home and she would replace it. Well she didn't replace it, she had 101 excuses, but then stopped responding to my calls and texts. Today, the other silkie just started crowing! I sent her a video and her tone was very different this time. Well she actually responded but unapologetic. (SEE screenshot #2) Do NOT purchase from Dawne if you live in a residential and 100% need hens. She has bad customer service and doesn't run an honest business. I love to support local businesses, but she is not a good representation of one.

I want to update my review to include more information. In addition to the rooster fiasco, my family also purchased 3 chicks from Dawne. One died within 24 hours. She replaced that one, and the remaining 3 died within the week. I didn't want to include that in my original review as I thought it was something we did wrong. Unfortunately, after hearing many other stories, I now know that she was and still is selling sick chicks. In total I spent $75 for two "hens" that were in fact roosters, and $39 for the chicks that died. I was never refunded, and she had the nerve to try and turn it around on me as if it were my fault! There are many posts and threads about her on other websites so please do your research before buying from this lady.

I bought some silkies from this breeder. We have 1 boy and 1 girl. These silkies have such amazing personalities compared to my other road island reds etc. My hen just hatched her 1st baby last night. We are so proud of her. I texted the owner some questions late at night and called her early in the morning with great advice to keep our baby safe. Thank you for my chickens and this experience I get to show my kids. Amazing.

    My babies!

I googled a breeder near and found Dawne. She was feeding her babies in the front and they were so happy. It really was a beautiful sight to see. After walking around seeing all the silkies and other breeds. We ended up leaving with 2 babies (we actually didn't go with the intentions to buy). It's been almost 3wks and the babies are doing wonderful! The eat drink and sleep well. They actually sleep when we do, which is amazing. Definitely will be back!

Do not buy from this lady. She guaranteed that I would get all females, I purchased 4, they're 3 months now and 2 are for sure roos. The reason why I drove to Lathrop to buy from her is her promise that she hatches females. Lower temperature for longer or whatever. I live in town (Auburn). This is one of them. He's beautiful and I have to find him a new home.

They do serve lunch to 2pm. We were here to have lunch and then take pictures at their lavender farm. Hopping to catch some blooming lavender. Sadly, it was mostly a green garden w not much blooming lavender. There were a few other flowers blooming tho. Upon arrival.... Pros 1) plenty of parking. 2) location was plain but pretty and clean. 3) they had like 4 to 8 tables on the front by the parking area where you walk in. I saw a few people eating there. 4) they had a beautiful wooden table in the back on the grassy area with 6 chairs around it. That's where we sat for lunch. Our reservation was at 12pm. We got seated right away. Today was perfect to eat outside. There is no indoor seating or a restaurant here. I didn't see any. 5) there is a gift shop. But we didn't make it to see the inside 6) they serve salads and sandwiches here for lunch. Very simple and short menu. Their soup of the day today was tomato bisque. 7) our sandwiches and salads tasted fine. But salads are large portions. I could have shared my chicken salad with another. Sandwiches are normal size. Enough for one person. 8) Drinks were ok. Water tasted good. No funky or metal taste to it. 9) two porter potty bathroom but clean. Not the typical blue porter potties at putdoor events. A little nicer and it flushes. 10) our server was very nice. Cons 1) it took a long time to get our meals once we ordered. We were seated at 12pm. But we didn't get our salads and sandwiches till like an hourish later. By the time our foods came out, we sat to catch up and eat, and celebrate a bday, it was like 1:45ish already. Gift shop closes at 2pm. 2) our young server seems like she's still in training. But she was good. Wish they check on their customers more often. But maybe she was the only one taking orders. I don't know. 3) Conclusion This location was nice. Clean. Pretty. There wasn't any lavender blooming when we were there. But I heard it's a hit and miss to catch it in bloom too get beautiful pictures. It's ok though. We found other areas to get nice photos in. Foods were ok. Meh. But salads looked pretty and in large portions. Chicken on the salads were perfectly made. It was juicy and not dry. Each of our plates were $18. There is a small drinks menu. With both their menus being short, it made it so much easier to order something. Love that no one rushed us out after 2pm. We were allow to take our time on the area to take photos. They were setting up for a 4pm wedding. Not to bad here.

We did come in 10 mins before they were closing, we thought we could still grab some tri tip sandwiches. We walked in and the son said with a sigh and attitude, Hi How can we help you? We ask for the sandwiches to which he sighs again and says Sure! Sarcastically. He checks the cooler then slams that shut. Then the other employee asks what we wanted and he says loud enough for us to hear, just two sandwiches! And the other one responds "I just put that away." Then he says that's usually how it goes!! He comes back out and they're making little comments to each other. We wait maybe 5 minutes and it's ready which is great. Until the other kid dropped the paper bag on the counter and says here you go! With a sarcastic voice and smile. I never want to be a Karen but this was some of the worst customer service I have ever received. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone especially for just two half way decent tri tip sandwich for $38. Yikes. You would think that a family owned business would want to provide good customer service.

It's too bad that I didn't learn about them until it was about halfway into the season. They had a variety of small grapes (champagne grapes) that were delicious and so easy to eat. Glad that I had the opportunity to enjoy them for two or three weeks. Right now, they are offering the above mentioned Mandarins. The flavors are strong though a bit on the tart side, likely due to the shortage of rain so far this season. I bought a couple of pomelos and will try them shortly. This week's CUESA newsletter says they won't be at the market today, I'll find out soon enough. This is the beauty in living in California, having fresh seasonal produce year round.
