I love this place and the team here was awesome - I appreciated learning from the team. Please keep in mind that my perspective is different from others though since I'm not a designer or student. I went to volunteer with a group of people. I learned a lot about the recycling process and helped by sorting and bagging up materials. I was there for several hours and while I thought I made progress, it was a drop in the bucket compared to some of the giant mound of bags still left, which is kind of disheartening. I don't sew, but I still took the material given (we could select it ourselves) as compensation for our time to give to family. I think it would be better to have a scale in the fabric scrap room though because I kept running back and forth to checkout because I have no idea what five pounds feels like when it comes to fabric. It was awkward and delayed the process and even then I didn't get the full weight owed to me. FYI this place is a tad inconvenient to get to. The amount of money you pay to get here might end up being the same amount you saved, so make sure you calculate that beforehand. Also, be aware if you have allergies - you're going through old material so you may want to mask up. By the time I went here it was already a tad bit warm outside but being indoors where the heat was trapped made it a tad warmer. I can't imagine what they're like in the summer so I'd probably only go back in the early spring or winter. And definitely wear comfy shoes!

Posing as I rip off fabric off the sample packaging. RIP fore fingers

I learned about Fab Scrap as I started to do my research on slow fashion and sustainable ways to build an apparel brand. Fab Scrap is an organization that properly recycles through upcycling and downcycling and reuses fabric that would have ended up in a landfill. They have the opportunity to allow people to volunteer to help sort their fabric scraps and of course, I rose my hand! Plus each volunteer gets 5 lbs of FREE fabric of their choice and 30% off anything additional they want to buy. I was there for 3 hours and honestly, the time flew by. My fingers did hurt since I seemed to be stuck in the "sample kit" table but the work was theraputeic. Also, it's great that I'm using my time to do a good deed and help prevent textile waste. 2 and a half hours in, they start letting people go and shop around for fabric of their choice. Everything is organized by color, I personally wanted a specific fabric type but if you go to the warehouse, what you see is what you get and the fabric isn't noted on what type it is. I opted for the voucher, where I can come back to the warehouse or shop and redeem my free 5 lbs. I personally enjoyed the work and the feeling of contributing to a good deed towards the environment, It won't be my last time volunteering. Also, in June, they're going to be playing bingo where the winner can take an additional 5 lbs home. Win Win!

Very worthwhile visit. My 20 year old fashionista bought some scraps and made some great outfits. And she loved the experience.

I recently dropped into this store looking for fabric to cover my RV cushions. I had visited…read morenumerous places and could not find anything that pleased me. Much to my surprise as this is not a large store, I found lovely fabric and some of it was outdoor quality. I brought two different materials that complemented each other. I had a total of 10 cushions covered (one was 75" by 34") and 4 small pillow covers made. I was very pleased with the quality and service! If I need fabric this shop will be my first stop!

Ok here was my experience;…read more So I randomly found this store because I needed some cotton-spandex fabric for a project of mine. Parking for the shop is rough even when I was there at 10:30am so you'll probably have to park far or you can take mass transit so you won't have to worry about parking. As I entered the compact store it was luckily empty (I hate crowded stores). I wasn't greeted or anything which was odd but, I found Angel near the back end corner of the store too busy with something else and didn't pay me any mind. I doubt he even knew I was there until I asked him where cotton-spandex fabric would be. So the customer service was lacking. A great thing was there was A LOT of fabric to choose from, but I do wish he would take some time to label and organize the fabrics. It will not only be easier to look for certain fabrics but will look a lot more cleaner and professional! The prices were so/so and I ended up finding a thicker black wool-spandex fabric for 15 bucks a yard because I couldn't find what I wanted, 2 spools of black thread, and 2 zippers. In the end, I would say I'll go back because of a good and diverse selection but a little organization goes a long way! I'm sure next time I'll find some great fabrics.

Actually if Jesus returned and said, "Hey maybe no full time carpenter this time around, maybe I'll take it easy and just frame art" - then that's who'd Dennis would be bc that's the qualitative level of his work. And what's better is he prices his work like CRAZY EDDIE - his prices are just INSANE - it's almost like getting it done for FREE! I had 5 copies of an 8x10 that I wanted to frame and give as gifts. I live in Red Hook so I went to the closest - "Make a Frame" over on Atlantic Avenue in Cobble hill - who priced me at $174.00 for just one - and no discount on five!!! At those prices maybe they do have Jesus framing, but some how I doubt it. So searched Yelp again and found Brooklyn Art who priced me at $20.00 each!!!! INSANE! Why would I pay $154.00 more - on each one! - over at M.A.F.? I doubt there would've been that much of a qualitative difference noticeable to the eye. Just take a look at the pic I've attached - a beautiful job! I got all 5 done for $100. Great quality and turn around was just as insane. Dennis had done in just a few days. I'm sure Van Gogh would give his left ear, if he still had it, to have his works framed at Brooklyn Art - and you should too, but Dennis only takes cash & credit cards so the good news is you can walk out with both your ears, however if you go to that place on Atlantic avenue it could cost you and arm and leg - HEY OH!
