I purchased a Groupon for Footprints Yoga and was excited to learn a different style of Yoga. I had been going to another studio in Denver and I love it. I didn't realize that this yoga studio was located inside a small gym (directly off the freeway). If you decide to go, please note you'll need to drive past it, turn down a street, go through an alley, then drive through the Sherman-Williams parking lot to get to the place. It doesn't say Footprints Yoga anywhere on the building either, just Ascent Fitness. I entered and was greeted cheerfully and shown to the yoga studio. A tiny, tattooed young man apologetically told me he would be my instructor for the class and that the most important thing I needed to do right away was fill out a consent form that relieved them of any legal responsibility if I got injured, (all without making eye contact with me). Then he scampered off to a corner in the studio to intently examine his smartphone. For the duration of my time there, he didn't make a single effort to engage me in any conversation, and his body language and demeanor indicated he would rather be anywhere else. I went to the locker room to change. Very nice, Ascent Fitness, you are the reason this review has two stars. Footprints gets zero. The locker rooms were clean and I loved that the keys were already in the locks and attached to a clothespin, brilliant! I came back to the studio, put my mat down and tried to get focused for class. The ambient noise from the gym in the next room was so loud I couldn't concentrate. That, and the yoga instructor kept dragging bags across the floor, and the personal trainers kept shouting "Five more pushups!" and in general the entire atmosphere was the opposite of the calm, nurturing, serene place I was craving. To top it all off, 6:15pm rolled around and I looked around and saw that I was the ONLY person in the class. I haven't felt so uncomfortable, so out of place, and so conspicuous in a long time. I couldn't take it anymore, and I left.

Personal training, group fitness and small group training highlight this bright, friendly gym, but they have so much more to offer! Ozlem has probably the most beautiful and serene Pilates studio I have ever seen, and Footprints Yoga has transformed the group fitness room into a Yogi paradise. And did I mention they do couples massage? After working out there, you will soon feel like part of the community at Ascent!

I do personal training sessions and boot camp so am in this gym 3-4 times per week. The workouts are always different and engaging; and they keep my coming back for more. I appreciate the size of this gym, the cleanliness and the fact that the staff all help me with addressing areas I want to focus my attention on- including helping me work through injuries when I have them. The women were all very warm and welcoming. The space was really clean too which is important when it comes to gyms. I felt very comfortable here. The lifts were taught in a very educational way and it was clear that safety was of the utmost importance here, which it needs to be when we're talking about lifting heavy stuff. The environment was so supportive with everyone cheering others on. I can definitely see myself coming back for other classes after doing the workshop. The only disadvantage for me is that it's so far from where I live, so that's a personal downside not anything directed at the business. I'll definitely try to come back when my schedule allows for it though since it's been hard to find a good powerlifting gym around Denver.

I kept driving by Base 6 and decided to give them a-go since I like HIIT classes and I workout better in group classes than alone. It's been almost a year since I've been going to Base 6. The classes offer a lot of variety. You are able to push yourself as much as you want or take it easy if you're having an off-day. I am probably one of the least coordinated people and I never feel embarrassed when the entire class is working out on their left side and I'm on my right b/c I can't follow direction. The coaches are very knowledgeable regarding the exercises and correct your form when needed. They also try to push me but know when to back off when I give them the stank eye. The class formats can sometimes be a little hard to follow, but the coaches offer great direction and explanation of the format. The owner, Brian, does a good job keeping the routine engaging and fun. There are always themed classes around the holidays and group challenges. There are familiar faces any time I show up to work out which makes you feel like a small part of a community. Even if you're afraid of HIIT- like classes, give them a shot, you may enjoy it.

Both of the trainers I had during the various classes that I tried out were great! If you are new to this gym, you may find it a bit overwhelming that the instructors don't always make a point of showing you proper technique for a movement. There are a lot of different ex cerise's that they use at this gym. If you put your hand up or call the instructor over, they will gladly show you what's up and how to do the movements. If you attend a class on the weekends be prepared for it to be packed! I went on a Sunday and found the stretching session to be pretty uncomfortable because there was what seemed to be about 20 people in there. They sometimes have you do a bunch of sit-ups and other ground exercises on their standard rubber floor and it is a bit uncomfortable on the back and the spine. I definitely wish they had a different kind of flooring or that they put out the square foam mats on days where we had to do a lot of floor work.

Olivia at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful giving details of the class and the facility for first timers. During the workout her energy and music was awesome, she provided options for modifications, and encouragement to push for a great workout! The workout itself is interesting using different resistance bands and something I've never tried before. I walked in for class and was hardly/not at all greeted by the instructor and not really introduced to the new workout style very well. I would say that instruction was subpar. I was told to follow the person next to me often, critiqued in my moves quite often and not told anything about what I was doing right. It seemed no matter what I did, I still wasn't doing it right and was not given much encouragement. Btw, I don't think the moves are rocket science either. Let me preface this part by saying I did go to bootcamp this weekend, which was WAYY harder than this class, and I was still recovering from that. I was not ready to give it my all this morning but ready to try. The instructor actually came up to me and said "you're obviously struggling, so just stick with the [lowest resistance] bands." Thanks for the encouragement, dude! (Sarcasm) I'd say I was pretty annoyed with his instruction style, repeating the same commands over and over again. He didn't really say anything positive to anyone. If you like encouragement, motivation, or positivity during your workouts, this is NOT the place to go. Honestly I didn't like the customer service provided (or lack thereof) from this first time drop in. No thank you for coming in and trying it out, no acknowledgement whatsoever.

Review update since last posting…read more I have been a member of HHP for over a year now and I have to admit, I really look forward to these workouts. I'm shocked, I know! If you, like me, have a "squirrel" type of attention span and need constant stimulation and variety, this is the workout for you. The routine changes every week and yes, it is on the high intensity side of group classes. You will sweat, probably enough to warrant the quick baby wipe down before heading back to work if you can't take a shower. There is a beginner learning phase, so be prepared and don't give up if you feel awkward in the first few classes. I believe that is why they offer the free intro week, so you can go several times before deciding if it's right for you. Some coordination is required but not necessary as you go at your own pace if that's what you need to do. No one is going to make fun of you (in person) j/k. 30 minutes of cardio and resistance training is really key here. You will burn a lot of calories, you will see results. I believe I lost 1% body fat without dieting the first month or so I started. Since then, I've lowered my body fat by 6% - sweet!! I go 2 or 3 times per week and it really feels great, I have more energy and my endurance is has improved considerably. I have recently been going to the DTC location and it's just as great there as well. Whichever location you choose, you'll definitely get your workout on!
