    Getting there

I have done every workout known to man and F45 checks all the boxes. I have successfully lost 70 lbs while incorporating F45. It is the closest thing I have found to a personal trainer but in a group setting at a great price point. The coaches are upbeat, positive, very hands on and helpful. This is a great class for all levels either beginner never worked out a day in your life or an iron man. The fitness challenges are probably my favorite part, great way to get motivated, meet new people, shed body fat percentage, gain muscle and great prizes too. Not to mention their hospital grade body scanner to let you know how you are progressing. Don't walk run to try this great workout you will be so happy you did. p.s. Also love I can charge my Tesla and grab a coffee while getting a workout in.

Come. Try it out. Have fun. Get stronger. CrossFit Marin has morning, afternoon and evening classes…read moreto suit any schedule, and there are plenty of concurrent classes so that parents with kids of any age can work out at the same time. It's the best gig in town. Our first experience with CrossFit Marin was at their weekly Sunday afternoon classes at Town Park in Corte Madera. We saw a couple of athletic guys setting up a tumbling and gymnastics course next to the playground, and signed our two boys (3 and 5) up for a drop-in gymnastics class. The boys had fun, learned some new moves, and worked off a Sunday-morning-worth of energy. Andres de la Rosa and Roger Harrell told us about their program and invited us to check out their gym over at Tamal Plaza. A couple of weeks later, I signed the boys up for gymnastics once a week. While I watched those first few classes, it quickly became clear that the CrossFit Marin team are patient, talented and positive teachers for both the littlest tumblers (whose attention often wanders) and those kids who have had more experience (who may need more focus and harder challenges). And as we spent more time at the gym, I saw how our boys' natural flexibility and strength were being enhanced by balance work, skill training and fun games during class. The prices are very reasonable, so we quickly went from once a week to twice a week for the boys, and I started chatting with the trainers (thanks, Bill!) about their adult CrossFit program. Now comes the personal part: I have a lousy body image. I was a plump unathletic little kid, and as an adult have always been more inclined to play Scrabble than racquetball, if you get my meaning. So it took a couple of weeks of watching at the gym before I was willing to open myself up to trying an adult CrossFit class. And you know what? It turns out I'm *great* at it! Sure, I can't really do many pushups yet, and I can't yet do a chinup, but for the first time I can actually see myself getting there one day. I'm learning ways to work toward those goals. I'm getting stronger every week. The focus at CrossFit Marin is on strength and overall conditioning, so the workouts are really varied -- we've done skill work on everything from deadlifts and pullups to juggling and balance beam, so I feel like I'm always making progress. They can scale a workout for any skill level. Can't do a pullup? Keep one foot supported! Can do 50 pullups? Wear a weight vest! They can even work around past injuries so that you can come to the gym even if you have, say, a bad back or a chronic knee condition. If you think you're strong, you'll get stronger, and if you think you aren't fit, you'll discover strengths you didn't know you had. There is always something new to work toward, and they welcome whatever you bring to the table (or the floor in this case). Bottom line? I am working harder and feeling better about myself than I have in years, and I can do it at the same time as the kids are doing their classes. So they see me being active, and they're well-cared-for and busy while I'm focusing on my own health and well-being. Roger, Andres and the rest of the CrossFit Marin team are talented, open-minded, positive and committed to teaching all ages and skill levels. Their gym promotes community, hard work and good habits, but without the posturing or 'sales' mentality of some other local facilities. They love what they do -- helping people to grow stronger and more physically confident -- and it shows.

I want to highly recommend Maria Molina as a personal trainer at the Bay Club, Marin. I initially…read morestarted working with Maria to recover from a knee injury. I wanted to strengthen my leg muscles so that I could return to playing tennis. As someone who is over 80 yrs old, I was somewhat skeptical that weight training could make a big difference in my athletic abilities but one year and half later of training with Maria and I believe I'm more physically fit than I was in my 40's. Everything is easier (i.e., walking up stairs, carrying heavy loads, keeping up with grandkids ,etc.) To say my quality of life has improved due to my work with Maria is an understatement, Maria is a consummate professional. She explains exercises clearly, pays attention to form and keeps sessions motivating and enjoyable. One day when I was lifting weights on my own at the gym, a gentleman commented, "I see that you are experienced with weight lifting, Your form is perfect. You must have been doing this for many years." I give Maria full credit for teaching me the right (safe) way to lift. I occasionally have a few sore muscles but recovery is quick after a workout. Probably the most important thing I've learned from Maria is to believe in myself. Sometimes she tries a new exercise that I think is impossible for me to achieve, let alone master. Her confidence is unwavering and has a profound effect on my mental attitude. I see few women my age working out with weights at the Bay Club. I hope this review will encourage someone who is considering personal training to contact Maria. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish with her expert guidance.

Fantastic cardio class…read moreand the best value for money exercise in Marin County (Where else can you get 4 classes a week for $45/month?!). Really great atmosphere where you get a challenging but safe full-body workout in an hour, led by the lovely teacher Joy. I'll admit, I saw the name Jazzercise and had visions of ladies in leg warmers and leotards, but halfway through my first class as I gasped for breath and wiped the sweat out my eyes, I realized there is nothing old-fashioned about it. It's a very challenging workout, set to current top forty hits - there's a different routine for each song. (You can do each one high or low impact, as you choose). Then you move on to specific routines for weights, legs, arms and butts, with plenty of stretching too. I was so thrilled to find this after several years spent trying various exercise classes, none of which stuck. I find Spin to be boring and not targeted enough for your abs or upper body, nor does it do anything for your brain or balance. The Bar Method and Daily Method are both challenging and target specific muscle groups, but won't do much to burn calories. Zumba is fun and burns calories but targets nothing and lacks variety. Jazzercise, on the other hand, hits everything in one hour in a series of rigorous but safe routines - and you will SWEAT! (For you Weightwatchers out there, you earn just 4 points for an hour of yoga or Bar Method but a full 10 points for Jazzercise... that is 600 calories in an hour, and way more fun than the treadmill... I have lost 12 lb in the year since I started doing this class, and feel like a dancer again). Best of all, there is no 'scene' here; it's not intimidating or exclusive at all. There are no mirrors and no posers. Nobody will be staring at you or calling out your name to correct you. T-shirt and sweats are fine. The class of 50 or so people includes those of all ages, shapes and sizes who just share a love of music, dance and exercise. You'll soon master the moves and be doing the grapevine and the single-single-double in no time...

Shawn, the instructor who teaches at the same time is excellent, he interacts with the children, encourages them, gives positive feedback, and creates a supportive learning environment. The kids in his group seem engaged and confident. However, the female instructors assigned to the other group have been very disappointing. They show the course once and then mostly stand and watch. There is very little interaction, no encouragement, and no guidance throughout the class. These are 4- and 5-year-old children who need support, engagement, and positive reinforcement. I rarely hear a "good job" or see active coaching. Week after week, the level of enthusiasm and involvement from these instructors has been lacking. For young children especially, energy, facial expression, encouragement, and interaction make a huge difference in their experience and development. I truly hope the program can ensure a consistent standard of quality across all instructors, because the difference between groups is very noticeable.
