I've been a member of Roots since moving to Boulder in 2012. In my biased opinion (and isn't that…read morewhat Yelp is all about?), Roots is the best CrossFit gym in all of Boulder ... and the country, far as I've seen - and I've dropped into my fair share. Let me explain: * The size of the gym is spacious, not cramped, and always clean and organized. Total win. * There's a mindful flow to class structure with a group warm-up and WOD intro that is guided - it's never a free-for-all. And the class waits to break their sh*t down until everyone is finished WODing. * The coaches are the best, most skilled IMO. They care about form and foundational movements and technique. They keep class sizes small so you get the attention you need, whether you want to admit it or not, to get better and, more importantly, move safely. * They have four dedicated Oly platforms, where is where I now spend the majority of my time. I love that. I got my own space to work on my Oly lifts or pull out a rack to back/front squat, without having to fight for space, barbells, or plates. * They have ample Open Shop time that I utilize for shizzle. No other gym in/around town is going to let you treat their shop like your own personal gym, but Roots does with near-daily Open Shop times that let you come in and do your own thing, catch up on a WOD you might've missed, or work on technique and gymnastics. * There's always a coach onsite. If you need a spot, some advice, or general pep talk, you don't have to look far to get the support you need as an athlete. I love that. Sometimes, you may even get advice from a coach without asking - that's how much they care. Okay, here comes the WARNING: If you join Roots - or even try it for a few days and classes, be ready to FEEL SPOILED. To feel like no other gym will ever meet your expectations, because that's exactly what will happen. Roots is the best, worth every cent, and very accomodating for all athletes of all ages (they have a kids program and a seniors program), as well as community-minded and welcoming. To be honest, when I moved to Boulder without knowing ANYONE, I got through that first awkward couple of years (you know, trying to meet friends and trying to feel at home) because of Roots. I started in their Women's Only program and made fast friends with the ladies, before I self-graduated myself into the standard track after doing the 2014 Open. If you're a member of Roots, I think you can agree with me - you feel like you're part of something special, something important, something worth preserving at all costs. It's not the cult-mindset (ha, like that even exists in CrossFit); it's the Roots Family outlook. When you're in, you're in.

This week at CrossFit roots after participating in a multi-day gymnastics seminar coached by Shane my wife was invited by her classmates to participate in the daily wod. When she attempted to walk into the group coach Shane asked her "what are you doing". My wife made her wishes known and was coolly informed she is not a member of that box and may not participate. Even when another athlete offered immediately to invite my wife as her guest coach Shane remained adamant that joining the wod was for some reason against the rules. This is a disappointing experience to have at such a well-established box. CrossFit Roots is known to be the home of several well-known CrossFit athletes, good coaching and unfortunately also a somewhat callous management. If you are looking to join a box in Boulder I cannot recommend CrossFit roots.

Made it to Lifetime boulders grand opening before leaving to Arizona!…read more I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed with the staff and how friendly they are. Your GPS will send you to a parking garage, which is the correct parking garage. The Lifetime pool is to the right of the entrance so if you are looking at the gate of the pool, you're heading the right way. This Lifetime is single story one level and my favorite part is the indoor lap pool, hot tub, cold plunge steam room, and sauna combination. The kitchen here is not a full-service kitchen, so you'll find lots of snacks and easy things like avocado toast. I do love the booths here. They're super aesthetic and comfy. I also like the GTX/ultra fit room. I can't wait to come back to take a class here. Lots of spots open the picture that I took only shows half the room so just double the spots. Double the spots for double the fun!

Every single piece of equipment is state-of-the-art, spotless, and feels brand new. The outdoor pool is amazing and having an indoor pool for winter is a total game changer and a must for Boulder. I was greeted at the front desk by the friendliest guy ever, which set the tone. The locker room felt more like a luxury spa than a gym and was immaculate, modern, and honestly kind of gorgeous. The treadmills were next-level too. They even had a setting where it feels like you're pushing a sled. And the recovery area....Unreal. Massages, deep stretching, pneumatic leg recovery--the works. This is the kind of place you look forward to coming back to again and again. First impressions matter, and this one was straight-up number one. I wish my small town where I live had a luxury like this.

Had a blast trying this new to us facility…read more Parking is free and a breeze in the garage attached to the building. Just note you'll need to enter from the West door facing 30th street. Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly and knowledgeable GM Candice. Her passion for the brand and offerings was palpable. She herself was a member for over a year before she took the position. Together we reviewed the cool gear, lotions, supplements, amenities as well as all the different studies (cycling, rowers, yoga, etc.). Classes refresh about once a month ensuring you don't get bored. Class sizes are limited to 3 to ensure you have enough space to safely and enjoyable enjoy your workout. Before class started we were acquainted with the infrared sauna our class would air in (on tv built into the wall). We learned how to turn off the lights, increase the volume and most importantly adjust the heat to suit our preferences (heat was set to 125 which we lowered down to about 105). Our yoga mats as well as foam roller and towels were all nicely set up for us. The class itself was ok. With the tv so high up on the wall it was a little challenging to keep an eye on the instructor without craning our necks. While we felt like we had a decent workout (each tv aired class features different people displaying different levels of difficultly) we really missed hearing music and the fun it provides - tho we were told we could bring our own in via phone or little speaker. Overall this is a super clean place with friendly staff and great membership options. Since you can come in anytime (you get special access via your phone once you become a member) it's super convenient. There's also the added fun of challenges (there were cute handmade goodie bags for past participants at the front - showing the care Candice has for her members). Definitely check this place out if you are looking for a new gym with lots of flexibility and many class options.

Best of all, I feel like I've joined a supportive, welcoming, and non-judgmental community where I'm rapidly getting into the best shape of my life. Sally and Jess take the time to get to know everyone in the studio so they can provide the gnarliest workouts that are also endlessly adaptable to be safe and attainable for any fitness level (literally satisfying first time exercisers and professional athletes alike). Pro tip: don't let the schedule fool you. Every day is a full body workout that will get your heart pumping. The different daily focus means you can go every day without over-exerting specific muscle groups. Bring a sweat towel. You'll need it.

I've tried almost all the boutique fitness studios in Boulder over the last couple years, and…read moretypically was a member of more than one because I couldn't find one studio that met all my needs. In fact, I'd often go back-to-back from a cardio class at one studio to a strength class at another in order to work my heart and build strength. Who has time for that?? While most of the studios in town emphasize cardio OR strength - or risk injury through high-impact exercises - PeaksFit integrates BOTH in a low-impact and approachable way (that said, be forewarned that you WILL be sore afterwards!). Because their workouts get your heart pumping through strength training, it's essentially like getting two workouts in one. Better yet, each day is a different style of evidenced-based focus - HIIT, plyo, resistance, strength, circuit, arms/abs, legs/glutes - you'll find it all here throughout the week rather than the same old style day after day. Because the owners are your trainers, they are invested in the quality of each person's workout, with an emphasis not on maintenance but on gains (whatever that might mean for YOU). I am always so impressed and grateful for the fact that they are aware of any limitations I may have - such as injuries, or injury-prone areas. They know which weights I personally should use for any given exercise in order to be safe AND get stronger. This is also a studio that has a sense of community and camaraderie. No egos, no competitiveness, no annoyed or burned-out instructors. So happy to FINALLY have a studio like this in Boulder!
