We cooked, we laughed, we drank, we cooked some more and just had the most amazing dinner. Everything was geared towards what we wanted as far as the menu, the flavors, the amount and type of spices. Everything came out wonderful. Shilpi brought everything and used a few of our pots and serving dishes and while we were eating, cleaned the space so you wouldn't even know someone was there. I did a 4 week online class with Shilpi and loved it. EZ Compliments also has in person classes available, but I wanted to try this format, and it worked out great! All the spices came by mail before the first day of class and it was great fun going through them. That package also included the recipe sheets which I posted on my fridge each week to get ready. Although the spices come by mail, you buy the rest of the ingredients yourself based on the recipe lists. So each week I went shopping for any ingredients I'd need, leaving myself a good amount of time to prep everything I had to before class. Shilpi sends out an email each week suggesting what to prep ahead so planning is easy. All the meals came out great - even the ones I made mistakes on or tweaked a bit were awesome. Shilpi is super helpful about working with any dietary preferences or figuring out what to do if you forgot to buy an ingredient. Watching everyone else online and seeing their creations is half the fun. Best of all, each day we had enough leftovers for a second meal. read more

I've done several 4 week virtual classes and also an in person and have found the experience well worth the time and money. I've learned so much about how to use Indian spices and also a number of general culinary tips and tricks. The best is we now have recipes for some Indian dishes that are as good or sometimes better than the best Indian we've had, including in highly regarded NYC Indian restaurants! Come prepared, prep your veggies, but don't start mixing unless she otherwise directs as she often revises the directions sent in the recipes. I recently signed up for a 4 class series with Chef Shilpi virtually. A large spice packet arrived with recipes, instructions all in biodegradable packaging. Plenty of spices to make these dishes again. Her class was so fun and she looked at every item for each student and offered guidance all along the way. I am not very good at breads - her spinach parathas (flat breads) were quick and easy, tasty and healthy!! No matter what Shilpi is teaching she can and does accommodate allergies, gluten free, vegetarian- you name it she can provide customization. All the other students were fun to cook with. My family and I attended a class at Chef Shilpi home gourmet kitchen. We are huge fans of Indian food however we never made Indian food at home and were eager to learn how. Chef Shilpi''s kind and gentle demeanor along with her warm welcoming style made us feel so comfortable right from the start. She provided a very helpful hands-on overview of all the spices prior to commencing the class. The class itself was outstanding, I would have given more stars for this review if it was possible. Everyone participated in the meal prep, plating, serving, and of course eating. I received Indian Cooking classes as a Christmas present this past year and just finished up my classes with Shilpi. OMG, I had so much fun! I have cooked Indian food several times in the past, but I learned so much from Shilpi. I love her style. Cooking is an art, and it is very much based on your own tastes and needs. All you had to do was ask, and she had several suggestion of how to make the dish more spicy, less spicy, lighter, or what to do if you didn't like a specific spice. She also helped with allergies. What a treat! We took my husband to Shilpi's Indian cooking class for his 50th birthday, together with my children who are 18 and 20 and it was altogether a wonderful family experience. Shilpi is not just a great teacher but a wonderful person. We learned to make three main courses, an appetizer and bread (which we were able to choose from a long list Shilpi sent ahead of time). She had all four of us working for the full 3 hours, preparing all of the dishes at the same time, and she explained the use of each ingredient as it went in. Then we sat down to a wonderful meal. Afterwards, we had tea and shared music with Shilpi's family. We have already started practicing the recipes she gave us and are very excited to have added these delicious meals to our repertoire. We have tried to make these dishes before on our own and they were never quite right, but now we are able to get some of that intense flavor. Shilpi is very relaxed and easy to work with and accommodated all of our interests into one fantastic evening and class. She also taught us about spices and gave us samples. When we got home, we compared her garam masala to what we had at home and realized why our food tasted so much more bland than what we made with her. We went to the Indian market in Waltham that she recommended and restocked our spices with a list from Shilpi, including a few new ones that she introduced during the lesson. We would definitely do this again, as a family or as part of a slightly larger group--she likes to keep the number small so it's a good hands-on experience for everyone--and we are looking forward to trying something else on the menu. read more

This is exactly what I've needed! Indian cuisine has been my favorite for many years, so it is only natural that I would want to cook it at home for my family. I've tried internet recipes several times and my dishes just never come out tasting authentic. I accidentally stumbled upon the EZ Compliments Yelp page while searching for Indian restaurants in the area. I contacted Shilpi, the chef who operates EZ, and set up a date for a vegetarian cooking class. It far exceeded my expectations. On the way to the class, I got stuck in some unexpected Boston traffic and arrived 30 minutes late. Shilpi welcomed me with open arms and integrated me right into the class. At first, I was a bit intimidated by all of the ingredients, but Shilpi is a pro and was able to explain things in a way that really makes sense. It seemed that over the course of a few hours, I really began to understand Indian cuisine in away I never had before. By the end of the lesson, 6 of us had all participated in 3 dishes, 1 soup, and 1 bread, which just goes to show you how well Shilpi can multi-task. We all peacefully enjoyed our meal together and were given Indian spice sample packs and copies of the recipes to take home. We were not rushed whatsoever at the conclusion of the class. I will, without a doubt, be attending more classes with Shilpi at EZ Compliments. Highly recommended! read more
