I've been coming to Dr. Newman for 6+ years now for my vision exams. My vision insurance seems to…read moreshun away from the bigger chain glasses and exam places so I was forced to find a smaller doctor. Luckily Dr. Newman was in my network and close to my house. Sure he doesn't have all the fancy new eye gadget machines that blow puffs of air at your eye and have you click buttons when you see flashing dots, but does one really need this? He has me in and out after every eye exam with 20 minutes (maybe 30 if I allow for dilation on that visit) and his bedside manner is great. I'll be honest and let you know that I order my contacts and my glasses online, but his selection of glasses is actually quite good. This particular visit was a last minute "emergency". I woke up and convinced myself I had pink eye and instantly threw away my contacts as any sensible contact wearer would do. Problem was, a) that was my last left eye contact and b) my prescription was expired. I'm going on vacation next week and need contacts for diving so I immediately called Dr. Newman and explained the situation. He said he was busy with appts all afternoon but if I wanted to come after 3pm he would fit me in in between patients. So crisis solved...I got my new prescription and ordered contacts as soon as I got home... he gave me a sample left eye contact in case my new box doesn't arrive before my trip and all was right again in the world!

Three weeks ago, I had a full eye examination with Dr. Wise, an ophthalmologist (MD) in Florida. Since I have worn glasses since high school, all I needed at this visit was a new prescription after losing my glasses. Last year, I also had a full exam at LensCrafters in Aventura, where the front desk clearly explained all costs and insurance coverage before my appointment. That visit was handled transparently and professionally. At MyEyeDr, however, the front desk did not explain what my insurance would or would not cover. During my appointment, a technician took retinal images without informing me that this would result in a $44 charge. I should have been told in advance and given the choice to decline. In addition, I was charged $140 for a contact lens fitting that was never discussed with me beforehand. The optometrist attempted multifocal lenses, which did not work for me. I was the one who had to suggest the lens setup I normally use (one lens for distance), and only then did he agree it would work. This left me feeling the fitting was unnecessary and not worth the fee. At checkout, I was presented with a bill of $640 that included these undisclosed charges. I was not prepared for such an amount and chose not to proceed with the purchase. The interaction with the sales associate afterward was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Because I was not informed of these additional services or fees beforehand, I am requesting a refund of the $44 retinal image fee and the $140 contact lens fitting fee. I believe this is a fair resolution given the lack of transparency and communication at my appointment. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I ordered two pairs of glasses and received them within ten days. My last pair of glasses cost almost $1000 dollars. They were NOT designer frames, but they were progressive lens. At My Eyelab, the sales consultant read my test results and said "How is your distance vision? I see you requested progressive lens, but you really don't need them. It would be much less expensive to purchase reading glasses only." I received two pairs of prescription reading glasses plus the test, for less than $400. This alone has made me a customer for life. But then, somehow I snapped the frame on one of my new pairs. My Eyelab immediately popped my lens out and placed them in the matching display pair. No charge. Really stupendous customer service.
