There were a couple of things that weren't great about the customer service the one time I actually went here, three years ago. The problem has been the frequent emails that it is impossible to stop. Every time I unsubscribe I get a page confirming that I've been removed from "this list". Apparently they just use a "new list" every time because the emails just keep coming. I've replied to them asking never to be contacted again. I've even called and spoken to someone and asked to be removed from any communication permanently. They claim they will and the emails just keep flowing in. So if you do business with them, be prepared that you will NEVER be rid of them. read more

After reading the reviews for their other location I decided to give this shop a chance. I was not disappointed, Dr. Shiyan spent a good deal of time explaining to me the details of what she was doing and had a great bed side manor. I'll recommend her to my friends if they ask where to get their next eye exam. Their shop is definitely stocked mostly with luxury brands, they have few frames under $200 in stock, but that's okay because you can also select frames from their other store which is just a block away. SO nice, knowledgeable and have great glasses, but they really need to get their act together. Everyone is super kind and helpful but 4/5 times people don't know what's going on. I have been told multiple times that I would get a call on a certain day when my glasses are ready only to never hear from them. I have heard contradictory advice from employees in terms of what they can and can't do with frames, lenses, etc. Expectations regarding timelines and reminders are consistently mismanaged. Advice to management: Invest in a CRM and defining processes that people follow. Employees shouldn't have to call one another to know what's going on - this should all be documented. Love them! I've had an exam with Dr. Gold and a dilation with Dr. Shiyan. Both are very professional, they make you feel welcome. The exams are efficient and not time consuming. I wish I had never spent my money in that store. The one star is only for the doctor who actually helped me. I paid almost $200 for my pair of glasses and realized after picking them up that they need to be adjusted. I went back to do so and received the worst customer service ever. One of the girl was very aggressive and pointed me out, telling me that the way I remove my pair of glasses was wrong which supposedly explains why they got loose in less than a week (apparently there is a special way to remove glasses, what kind of bs is that). After adjusting a second time, while making sure they actually do stay on when looking downward, the girl still points me out telling me that I won't be walking with my head down and it wouldn't make sense to adjust them once again. I mean, for that price I should be able to go on a roller coaster if I want to and if I want them adjusted 300 times so be it! I honestly felt like she was trying to bully me rather than helping. I visited that office 4 times and i was always frustrated. The first time I came in late 9 minutes and they refused to take me. The second time I expected to be seen on time since the 1st I had to reschedule for being late (it doesn't work in both ways apparently). The 3rd time I was told to come in to have my glasses fixed, showed up and apparently the optician schedule had changed due to summer hours. The 4th time that girl clearly dropped all her attitude on me that day! I am praying that I don't have to visit them anymore. It was a very frustrating experience! read more

I've been here for exams, and the doctor I had has been great. The staff, however, seems to be very unprofessional, talking loudly about personal matters and making patients very uncomfortable. They never called me when my glasses were ready even though they said they would. I took my 13 year old daughter to be fitted for contacts, she was very nervous. After a thorough exam, the staff spent over an hour with her encouraging her and with the utmost patience. My daughter was crying because she was so frustrated, but they did not give up on her nor get frustrated, instead, they sent us home with a few pairs for FREE so that she could keep trying. Almost a year later, she finally got hem in and we returned to be fitted and show them she could do it. Again, it took her a while, but with their support she finally got them in. After that, the gentleman spent time explaining all of my ordering/insurance options and we chose the one that worked for us, no pressure or judgement. When you read negative reviews after having such a contradictory experience, it makes you wonder how those people were behaved. I highly recommend Eyes on Second. read more

I started getting headaches and decided to get my eyes checked at Eyes On Second. Super cute store set up! Anyways, Dr. Shiyan examined my eyes. She was very thorough and I didn't even have questions after the exam, which is a rarity for me. I looked at quite a few frames until we found the ones that I loved and actually fit my face as I have a big round head! The girls were really helpful and patient. The selection was right on trend. SCAM!!! SERIOUSLY DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! I booked my appointment with Dr. Irina Shiyan through ZocDoc. First off, I had a different "fill in" doctor with no heads up at all that I would be seeing someone different. I did the eye exam and was told I needed glasses. I felt pressure from the staff to buy my frames and lenses there. I didn't love any of the frames so they insisted that I at least get the lenses and come back with other frames that I found elsewhere. So, I paid for the lenses which came to about $70 after my health insurance covered them and the employee said she would order the lenses. About 4/5 days later I found some great frames from Lens Crafters and brought them to Eyes on Second. The lenses still haven't arrived so I left my frames there over the weekend. When I called on Monday to pick up the glasses (over a week later) they HAD STILL NOT ORDERED THE LENSES! I had to ask for my money back ($70). They said that they could still order the lenses if I paid an additional $150...which was originally covered with my health insurance. When I came to the shop to pick up my frames that I had left there, I was told over the phone that a doctor would also be there. I had some questions about my eye exam I had a week prior because I felt that there was still something wrong with my eyes...of course there was NO doctor and the staff had the audacity to be rude to me about it and my concerns about my eyes. They ended up writing me a check for the $70 that I originally paid. They said a manager would call me the next day to explain what went wrong with my frames (lol of course that never happened!) SO UNPROFESSIONAL! I took my check and brought my frames to Lens Crafters and they literally had it done within 2 hours. They also only charged me an additional $30..NOT $150 like Eyes on Second had asked for!!!! Lens Crafters ALSO set me up with a free eye appointment to check up on whatever went wrong with my appointment with Eyes on Second! WHAT A HEADACHE! WIL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THERE AGAIN!! read more

Worst part of glasses I've ever owned. I went here because they took my insurance. Decided to spend extra and invest in a good pair of lightweight wire framed glasses. When I went to pick them up the salesperson I worked with was not in. They handed me glasses and case and walked away. No trying them on, no adjustment until I insisted. I knew they were too thick but no one wanted to have a conversation with me because they hadn't made the sale. Got my glasses home and found I couldn't wear them for more than 20 minutes at a time. Way too heavy and dig into my nose. I emailed and called explaining the situation. I received a response 5 days after I expressed initial concerns. Unfortunately I missed the sales person's call. When I contacted the store the next day by email they responded by telling me that the salesperson had been trying to reach me "to no avail!" Not true. I finally made it back on my sales person's schedule (you can only deal with the person who made the sale.) she agreed that I needed thinner lenses. I asked if I needed the thinnest ones. She assured me that I didn't. Got my new glasses. I was happy when I picked them up because they were certainly more comfortable than the originals. But as time has gone by I'm incredibly unhappy with my incredibly expensive glasses. They are still way too heavy. The nose pads leave deep red diverts in my nose. The ear stems float above my ears because the lenses are so heavy the glasses tilt forward. I can't wear them for more than a half hour tops and I'm constantly readjusting them. It took me a while to admit to myself that the glasses I invested in are too uncomfortable to wear. I don't feel like the sales person I worked with had any experience or knew what kinds of lenses go in which kinds of frames. I would have been happier if I could have gone into the store for help any time it was open rather than having to work around my job, my kids who have been home for a year and the schedule of a specific sales person. I felt that the girl at the desk was rude in her responses to me. I'm totally over it. Wouldn't even be comfortable going back to get help with this issue. I spent about 1k on a pair of glasses that are sitting in a cupboard and will never be worn while I wear a three year old pair with a three year old prescription rather than scar my face with these. I have worn glasses for more than 40 years and never had an issue like this. Bad experience and bad customer service. read more

My husband had glasses made there about 6 months ago, and they broke this morning, not the fault of the frames, but because something in our apt squashed them. He ran to the store this morning with the busted frame, and was delighted to learn that the frames were under warranty, and were replaced on the spot, and he walked out with a brand new identical frame with his lenses which were not damaged. I'm not sure how many eyeglass places, especially in nyc, have this kind of customer service policy, but i venture to say not many. It was the most thorough eye exam I've ever had, and the doctor was very patient in explaining the different options I had for new contacts and new glasses. My experience with the optometrist was pleasant but my store experience was horrible. The eye exam went smoothly and the optometrist was nice. However the sales person at the front of the store (forgot his name but blond gentleman with glasses) was sooooooo pushy. I told the optometrist that I wanted contacts for occasional use, because I usually wear glasses. First, he got annoyed that I didn't want new glasses. Second, he wanted me to buy 12 months of contact supplies, which is equal to ~$900. Because I'm only an occasional contact lens user, I really don't need a year supply. That would take me few years to go through. He was so annoyed when I told him I only wanted 3 month supply. After that he basically refused to talk to me and of course didn't even say thank you when I made the purchase. I shouldn't have even purchased the contacts there. Would definitely advise to run with the prescription because you're going to get attitude anyways. read more

I've come here 2 years in a row and have not been disappointed. They are very thorough, knowledgeable and helpful. Everyone is friendly and very equipped to answer any questions or follow up with any requests you may have. I've been wearing contacts for a couple years and they are the ones who told me that I'm actually completely covered and don't have to pay for contacts. They even went ahead and pushed for a consecutive year for fully covered contacts despite my insurance plan saying otherwise it can only be done every 2 years. I'm very happy with them and plan on continuing my care with both doctors. read more

Friendly staff, making an appointment was easy over the phone and they let me reschedule easily when something came up and I had to postpone. I went in for an annual checkup and was seen by Dr. Lina Cawog who was great. She is very friendly, thorough and informative, and she was able to answer all questions I had about my terrible vision! The check up itself was quick, probably 20 minutes from the time I walked in to the time that was done, but then I had my eyes dilated which takes about 15 minutes, so all in all I was there for about 45 minutes. They didn't try to force me into buying anything which is nice and atypical in my experience. I would happily see Dr. Cawog again and plan to use Eyes on Second for my vision needs moving forward. read more

This review was a year in the making. Last year I came to get my prescription updated and new contacts. When I got my glasses they were so scratched up i insisted they fix the lenses, they tried to convince me that the scratches would be unnoticeable after a while but did them again. My eyes never truly adjusted and the next pair had fewer scratches but weren't much better. The contacts were horrible and after insisting several times that they felt off I finally gave up and went with a pair that felt the least bad. I knew something was off. My eye insurance meant I had to deal with this for a year, so through headaches and vertigo, migraines and sore eyes I suffered till almost a year to the day I was able to go to a new optometrist. The contacts were two full points over in the right eye, 1.5 in the left. The glasses were 1 point over in the right eye and just slightly over in the left. For a year I had been struggling through 4 entirely different prescriptions and as the new doctor informed me, over prescribed. From the jump this place was horrible, changing contacts in a dark bathroom at the end of the hall and being told the problems I was having weren't actually that bad. I wouldn't put this place on anyone and I can't recommend enough that if you are reading this, you reconsider patronizing this place. That said the staff were friendly enough. read more

I really LOVE Dr. Cawog. She gave me the most thorough eye exam I've ever had--definitely a major plus because I have some seriously poor eyesight. She was so friendly and really walked me through everything that was going on with my eyes. If this review was based on doctor alone, Dr. C would have a billion stars, easily. However, I am super disappointed in the admin at Eyes on Second. I waited 5 days just to get an itemized receipt so I could mail in my rebate... which I told would automatically come back directly to my credit card. I have never felt compelled to write a view, until today. Plain and simple, they sold me a $355 pair of frames that were used. When I went to pick them up (after paying for them), I immediately noticed multiple scratches, fingerprints and damage. I asked them why the frames were damaged-they confirmed these were display frames and also noted they typically sell display frames. The sales associate wasn't even phased by my question and seemed confused I thought it was abnormal to be sold display frames. I left the glasses there and will be requesting a refund. I called to make an appointment to be seen for a swollen eyelid and was told that I could not be seen at this location, however, I could be seen at Village Eye Care. I told the employee over the phone that I need to see an optomologist as I most likely need meds. I was happy to get an appointment that same day. When I arrived I was informed that it would be $89, although my specialist fee is $35. Apparently my deductible was not met. I was asked if I was told this over the phone, I had not. I needed to be seen so I continued with my appointment. The Optomitrist told me to continue with warm compresses and it's an infection of my eyelid. Of course she could not provide meds because she is not an optomologist. I am very disapoint d in their service as I had expressed I needed to see an optomologist and was not informed that this was not an option. Then I had to pay $89 for information I already knew and for no actual assistance. Between this and my visit to Eyes on Second I will not be returning. Eyes on Second gave me the wrong titanium frames. read more
