My old eyeglasses are better than my new ones. Now I have to wait two years because of my Medicare insurance. We are elderly, live on a fixed income and live 100 miles from Rapid City. When I called them to ask if they could recheck the prescription they told me I would have to pay because it was just past 60 days. Between bad weather, subzero temperatures, the long driving distance and getting the glasses rechecked they wouldn't budge on this. I guess that even though western South Dakota is VERY rural, Independent Optical believes everyone lives in Rapid City. They are not flexible and have no compassion. This is their fault. I definitely do NOT recommend them.

There were multiple delays in processing the order and the glasses, and it ended up taking substantially longer than I was originally told. After multiple delays I picked up the glasses and explained my frustration to the person serving me that day. The doctor was out that day but she later personally emailed me and apologized for the delays. Also, her office wrote me a letter with attached discount if I would give them a second chance. It was great customer service and I appreciated it. We all deserve a second chance. I would consider going there again. I am quite happy with the glasses as well.

Everyone in the office was very friendly, and it was a welcoming environment. I checked in and did the typical insurance exchange. Within a couple of minutes Dr Schaefer came out to get me. At first I thought I had the summer intern, as he is a young looking guy. I am at an age where I can fortunately choose Doctors that should outlast me, so that I don't have to adjust for someone new. Dr Schaefer may be young, but that comes with a huge benefit. Everyone in their life has met with a care provider somewhere that has decades under their belt, and they show it by asking a couple of questions, acting burdened, and rushing off to the next patient. Dr Schaefer was the complete opposite. He was patient, answered all of my questions, and was highly professional throughout. He definitely fits the requirements for a Doctor, and I will recommend him to anyone I can. This office is extremely lucky to have him! Thank you Sir!

Dr. Jonathan Nebelsick is very quick with his exam. Not giving me enough time to make selections between numbers. He seemed very rushed and like he had something better or more important to do. Which I thought was very rude and not doctor like at all. And my wife agrees as her appointment was rushed. I was prescribed progressive lenses. I just received my glasses from GlassesUSA, as I refused to go back to Pillen for picking out glasses. Needless to say this "new" prescription is no better then my single lense prescription from last year. They claim to be the cheapest in town. Which I'm sure they are. The product had…read morethe vision axis such that they didn't match, meaning you could close one eye and get good vision in the other eye but vision was blurry in the first eye when opened which would become perfect if one moved his head. They were off and did not line up with one another. The girls there tried to BS me into believing the prescription was good and somehow I was imagining the problem or something like that, which was totally ridiculous since I'd had many pairs of glasses before with excellent results. Three of them kept telling me that they could remake the lenses but they'd be the same so I demanded a refund, which they grudgingly provided. Amazing how friendly they are when you have money for them but decidedly unfriendly when they have to issue a refund. STAY AWAY! I went to Pillan Optical and the result was virtually perfect the first try. I wish I could give NO stars for this review.

I stopped by the optical shop last week and got an eye exam and new glasses. The exam was better…read morethan most I had had in the past with cool photos they took of the inside of my eyes. The glasses were progressives with AR coat and scratch coat. I paid a fair amount for them but as the opticians told me I got discounts on the scratch coat for free with the AR coat and the frame was on sale too.
