I had been intrigued about Eye Design since seeing local commercials with a great vibe for the past several years. I reached out to the owner, Linda, on email to ask about insurance coverage, as my employer offers VSP. While EyeDesign does not participate with VSP, Linda told me they would be happy to provide me with the information to use in filing my own claim to send in for an out of network provider's materials. Of course, this meant I had much more out of pocket expense, but I was able to afford this and I really prioritized my need for stylish frames, great sunglass lens and their expertise in assisting me. Eyes are important! I finally made time to travel to Red Bank, as my optometrist's frame stylist had left the practice and I did not like the frame selection or expertise of the new staff. I needed an expert optometrist/fashionista! I found that in Trish. Trish saw that at 59, I am a business woman who dresses fairly conservatively (a lot of black), but was seeking an updated look. She showed me such beautiful quality frames....I loved them all and it was like entering another world from those I had been wearing....Tory Burch frames I had enjoyed. EyeDesign's inventory was so much more substantial, in beautiful colors, with such nice weights. I kept reverting to my more classic bent and Trish kept reminding me (gently) that I came in wanting to "step out" and UPDATE my style. I had so much fun exploring in this beautiful boutique and I had Trish's undivided attention. I ended up with Anne et Valentin frames that are funky and as dark as I need them, with progressive lens. They are decidedly more cutting edge than my 3 year old Tory Burch tortoise sunglasses. I like that Trish didn't make me feel like I had been wearing something dated or unattractive, but instead had a forward-looking attitude of finding something more interesting and a bit fun. I paid more than I have ever paid for a pair of glasses, but they are superlative lens, amazing frames and will protect my eyes and the skin around them from the sun. I never step outside without sunglasses on, so for me, these are more important than many other things and the older I get the more $ I spend on shoes, bags and glasses....for my comfort and convenience. I like dealing with quality products and professionals with expertise and would rather spend money on glasses I wear every day than outfits I cycle through. My two eyes are more and more critical to me, as I age. I doubt I will go anywhere else for glasses again. It would be a true step down from the experience I had here and I already cannot wait to see what they come up with for my "regular" glasses, next time I am in! read more

I have been coming here for glasses since I was in Middle School. The expertise offered here has no rival. Whenever I go in, I tell Linda , the owner, what I'm looking for, and she curates a selection of glasses that suit my face and style. This is no Warby Parker. Rather, this is the real deal. Expect to find world-class frames, exceptionally friendly and helpful service, and just an all-around positive experience. There's even an in-house optometrist. I'm always extremely pleased with my frames. The staff helps me pick out cool frames that I may not have been bold enough to choose on my own. What's more, she really cares about your complete satisfaction and will do whatever is needed in order to achieve it. I had been wearing ill-fitting glasses for almost twenty years and had been to many places, but Linda was the first and only person to point out how they were wrong for my face, not just cosmetically but organically. There were actually lines created from the old pair, which no one else wanted to deal with, just selling me something new for more money. Linda and her staff went so far as to create a special template to test how adapting the newly-shaped glasses would work, at no extra charge, without my asking for it. She is, above all, a special person, who treats her customers like family (and I barely knew her when she first helped me!), a rare thing in today's busy and impersonal world. The shop's careful, expert and considerate staff makes eye glass selection and fit an enlightening and enjoyable experience. The store display is weighted toward more contemporary designs, reflecting staff's periodic buying trips to Paris, Milan and other global fashion centers. I have been a client of EyeDesign since before they located to Red Bank and were in Deal, NJ. I estimate 25+ years. Going to Linda's shop and purchasing frames is one of the highlights of my year. I find in other shops, I have to look carefully to find a frame I like and that flatters my face. At EyeDesign, the selection is alluring and I oftentimes had to restrain myself from buying more than 2 pair. Over the years, I've accumulated a drawer full of beautiful frames that never go out of style. Linda is always happy to change out the lenses in frames I purchased from her and the frames have always been durable, in addition to attractive. Trish and Joe are wonderful to work with. There is an optometrist on site who can perform eye exams and the plus side of this, I recently learned, is that if you buy a pair of glasses using his prescription, if you find the lenses don't work for you once you actually have the glasses made, EyeDesign will work with you to replace the lenses at no cost. I cannot comment on the optometrist's services for prescribing eyeglasses as I only went to him years ago to try to get contacts that would work for me. We were not successful but that was due to my changing eyesight, not due to his lack of expertise. He was pleasant and nice to work with. A word of caution, however. If you are not using EyeDesign's optometrist, only bring a prescription from your doctor that you know is tried and true. If it turns out to be faulty once you have the glasses made, you are out that money. I found out this policy only recently and found out the hard way. I go to an opthamologist at Will's Eye due to problematic glaucoma and brought my updated prescription to EyeDesign, not realizing there was a substantial change from the last prescription I had filled three years ago. When the prescription didn't work for me, I was totally out the $550+ I paid for the lenses and had to go to my doctor to work out a new prescription and lenses. Fortunately, he gave me a break on the price and only charged me $250 for the new lenses. Nevertheless, that was still a substantial amount of money to pay for lenses put into my own frame. And trust me, this is not a criticism of EyeDesign in any way. No one ever really knows how a prescription is going to work until you wear the glasses for about a week in differing lighting at at various distances. Just be sure that if you bring your own prescription, you question your doctor carefully beforehand whether there was a radical change in the lens he is prescribing. If there is, you may want to buy your frames from Linda and have him fill the prescription so there is no unnecessary out of pocket. read more

I was assisted this morning and the woman made me feel as though I was beneath her. The whole time was spent on her talking about herself. How she's been in the business for 40 years and that her store is geared toward fashionable eyewear. I was there to purchase eyewear, not to be judged. The first words out of her mouth were, "I can tell you didn't get those glasses that you have on here". I found that to be quite rude. Eye Design carries exclusive brands, designs, and styles (catering to a contemporary or a traditional look) from various European, Asian, American (you name it) eyewear designers. I have been getting my eyewear from them for over a decade, and Linda and her team are absolutely meticulous, impeccable, and do an excellent job in helping me pick the perfect pair each time that hits my spot and craving for the right color and fit. Linda travels around the world to hand pick her international collection of eyeglasses / sunglasses which very few opticians ever see. I must say - Eye Design not only carries great frames from across the globe, but their craftsmanship in fitting the lenses is superb and remarkable (coming from a meticulous and not so easy customer :-)).
