I always have a great experience here. I started bringing my daughter here 2 years ago and it had…read morebeen great. The staff always greet you when you walk in, and you're immediately assisted. My daughter appointments never take drastically long. The different frames to choose from is wonderful. My daughter loves a variety of glasses and Schaeffer has the best. The prices can vary depending on what you're looking for and how much your inaurance cover. They can be pretty reasonable, but once again that depends on what you're looking for. Overall from my personal experience everything has been great!

I walked back and I went to a room where I was looking into a machine with the house and then the assistant proceeds to use a TOOL ON MY EYE that was JUST LAYING ON A CARDBOARD BOX and then proceeds after to PUT IT BACK ON THE CARDBOARD BOX!? I was shocked. I was going to mention this to the doctor but when the doctor came in, they seemed in a rush and truly didn't even greet me kindly. I was a new patient so I expected atleast a small introduction. I mentioned to the assistant about concern with floaters and the doctor didn't go over that. It all seemed rushed and no true concern. They were changing my prescription and not giving an explanation? If they did explain it wasn't in detail. It all felt rushed, odd and off putting. signed, sadly disappointed

Dr. Harrelson is one of the most compassionate, knowledgeable, efficient, and result-oriented…read moredoctors I have seen. After years and many different doctor visits to find what was causing severe migraines and pain in my neck and back, my two year battle with medical problems led my unsuccessful treatments (spending almost $4000 in tests and medications from my Neurologist to Orthopedic Doctors) to a suggestion to get my eyes checked even though I had no "symptoms" of eye issues. Through a family member's referral to Dr. Harrelson, I was able to make an appointment the next day. The care I received more than exceeded any expectation or any experience I have had with the countless doctors in almost every field. The most sincere interest and problem solving ability he showed actually made me walk away from my visit with more knowledge about how my medical conditions were possibly connected to vision problems I wasn't even aware of...basically, for the first time in over two years I left with a new found hope and even more importantly, understanding. He treated me as a concerned friend would, giving me insight into my medical issues...not false hope...but the potential of being able to relieve some of my pain and other options we would try if the first attempt was not successful. He also was able to give me personal referrals to other doctors in different fields that he trusted. After my diagnosis and second visit to receive my glasses, I have had relief for the first time in years, no medication needed! While I feel blessed to have had the symptoms he could efficiently problem solve with vision treatment, I can confidently say that even if he couldn't have helped me, he gave me a new found confidence, hope and trust that there are doctors that truly care for my well-being. I cannot place a dollar amount, out of all the money I have spent in other unsuccessful medical treatment, on the kindness and knowledge he gave me. I can confidently say that if he cannot help you, he will not let you leave his office without other medical suggestions or referrals. I hope this will help someone to seek him out!! You will not regret it!

I really love Dr. Hively and have been going to him since we moved to Alabama, and I did have to…read moreget different contacts this year due to some other health changes so I know that played a role in my cost, but I spent $700 on contacts and glasses out of pocket AFTER insurance. It's honestly made me feel like they are either too expensive or sneaking fees in. One thing I did notice is that my insurance did not pay for a contact exam this year because they changed their price and my insurance only pays under $65, their price is over $70. Idk it was a punch to the gut, I had surgery on my knee and cannot work right now so I did not expect to spend that out of pocket. I have only spent $300-$400 in the past. They also could have told me my insurance only covered glasses every other year...I did get a discount on my frames but my glasses were still $300 something because of the lenses. I had 2 other pairs of glasses from them and showed them that I really didn't want the "thinner" lens, I am very familiar with how thick my glasses are and how bad my vision is. It just seemed like highway robbery, because I am legally blind so I have to be able to see. I am definitely going to shop around next year and get prices from other places before going back because a lot of the things from last year's receipt and this year's did not match or add up. I may even get lasik at this point, I feel like it would be worth it instead of spending this kind of money out of pocket when I have insurance. My vision insurance did tell me to contact my health because it may be deemed "'medically necessary" but I was a nurse for 15 years and I feel like that's something that the company should've done when they saw my out of pocket cost. Idk. I'm sad, I've always loved this place but I def cannot spend this much money while also paying for vision insurance.

My husband and I rushed to this branch as soon as I got off work on a Friday evening to get his eye…read morepressure checked due to a recent eye emergency the required him to have his eye pressure checked within 2 days of leaving the ER. When we got to this store the lady said he would have to make an appointment bc the Dr was leaving soon and couldn't see him that night. Fine. We made the appointment for the next morning for the first available (11:40). He received a text with a link to fill out his paperwork for the next day, but the link sent him to an error page. The next day is the Saturday that storms were due to hit the area after lunch. I drove my legally blind husband and 4 kids (ages 6-10yrs) to this location for an 11:40 appointment to have ONLY his eye pressure checked. We chose this location because we were leaving there to spend the rest of the day at my parents house who live 3 min down the road and have a basement/storm shelter. As much as I hate being late for anything, we walked into the building at 11:53. My bad, but it's just eye pressure, takes 2 seconds, shouldn't be a problem for their flow, and wasn't worth the stress to me of trying to rush 4 kids and a blind man into my car to make it on time. When we arrived, it's obvious that bad weather is rolling in soon due to the temp, humidity, and the insane wind and dark clouds. All 6 of us walk into the store together and I walked up to the counter to check him in. I told the girl he was scheduled at 11:40. She looked at me with a disappointed face and said they had a 10 min policy and he would have to be rescheduled. I should note that there was one other person in the store and we were still well within his appointment block at the time. I want to say (but I'm not positive) that she told me the next appointment was either Monday or Tuesday at 2:20. I work 75 miles from home. I can't take him during the week. Anyway, I told her again that he was only there because the ER told him to get his eye pressure checked within 2 days of being discharged, he couldn't see well enough to even complete an entire eye exam, and if they couldn't "work him in" then I'd have to take him back to the eye ER in Birmingham to get it checked that day. This employee actually said to me, "Mmmm, yeah, the eye hospital might actually be your best option." ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?! So, you see a blind man and his 4 young children walk into your store less than 2 hours before tornadoes are due to start popping up all around the area and you're going to tell me that driving him and my 4 kids into the city to go to the EYE EMERGENCY HOSPITAL is my "BEST OPTION"?!?! What is a 10 min policy anyway? Most places that even have one are 15 min. And how would we even know there was a "policy" if the link they sent didn't even work? We will NEVER step foot in that store again. I promise. We went directly to Target at the other end of the shopping center, got a better parking spot than we did at the eye store, and they worked him in within about 15 min. No eye hospital required and my kids were able to wait out the storm in the safety of my parents basement. I have SO many more words to say about this place (or at least that employee), but I will keep them to myself. Ive worked in healthcare for 15 years (we have no 15 min policy) and if I was her boss, I would absolutely fire her if I found out about this. Maybe she's lucky that I don't know what her name was in case her boss agrees with me. She's not my problem anymore. 5 stars to Target Optical for saving the day.
