Avoid This Eye Doctor if You Value Your Autonomy and Mental Well-Being
My experience with Dr Victor Lacour was deeply distressing and unprofessional. I came in for an eye appointment and was repeatedly pressured into trying contact lenses, despite my clear and repeated refusal. Before the doctor attempted to insert the lenses, I informed him that I am a trauma survivor and have difficulty allowing others into my personal space without my control. He acknowledged this--but then completely disregarded it.
As soon as he pried my eye open and attempted to force the lens in, I immediately realized I was triggered and asked him to stop. Instead of respecting my boundaries, he outright refused and argued with me, insisting I do as I was told. This escalated my anxiety significantly, leaving me panicked by the time the lens was in. Even after this, I had to repeatedly refuse to let him try on the other eye while explaining the psychological impact of a trauma trigger.
His response? He casually mentioned that other female patients have also had extreme reactions to him forcing contacts onto them--one even slid to the floor trying to escape, another grabbed his wrists to stop him. Instead of seeing this as a glaring issue with his approach, he used these examples to minimize my distress. In reality, all it proved is that he routinely ignores consent and disregards patient autonomy, which is both disturbing and unethical.
No medical professional should ever refuse to stop a procedure when a patient says no.
I submitted multiple formal complaints to LensCrafters and have yet to hear back from them, minus one automated email they sent out apologizing that my "expectations were not exceeded". This dismissive reply was deeply concerning, as it minimized the seriousness of the situation, ignored the unprofessional conduct of the doctor, and failed to acknowledge any steps toward resolution.
A generic, automated response to a complaint of this nature is not only inadequate but also reflects poorly on LensCrafters' commitment to patient care and safety. I also submitted this same review to their Google reviews which LensCrafters ignored for a few days before then removing entirely, further adding to the concern of their lack of concern and interest in providing ethical care.
