The past two years I've gone to this location for my eye exam, but after this past week's visit, I will not be going again. The office REEKED of marijuana. Really bad. Not sure if it was from an employee or a patient, but it was so much it was permeating the entire back part of the office. I had seen the doctor, and I was sitting in the back waiting for my eyes to dilate. My eyes were already sensitive from the dilation, and then the employee came through spraying febreeze in the air to remove the smell of marijuana, which irritated my eyes even more! I couldn't believe it. I was cleared to leave after 20 more minutes. I was asked if I wanted to look at glasses, but I couldn't stand to be in the office anymore. I'll go elsewhere to purchase glasses, and will go somewhere else for my exam next year. read more

Have been in this location with a friend for a few times to help them select frames. I had time before another appointment so I ran in to pick out frames for myself. I was greeted after a few minutes and told they would be with me soon. No problems, I took a seat and surfed the web while I waited. My reminder alarmed went off reminding me of my pending appointment. For some reasons a business conversation had turned into wedding plans conversation while I waited. When I stood up and headed towards the exit all of a sudden they wanted to treat me like a paying customer. Oh no thank you, this isn't a place I'm willing to spend my money. There was more than one employee that could have displayed professional behavior but choice to ignore me. My friend loves this place. Me? I will never darken their doorsteps again. read more

For some 15 years, I've been visiting Schaeffer Eye Center under the care of Dr. Patricia Benjamin. She has been terrific: friendly, attentive and wry in making sure my eyes aren't suffering from the glare of all those screens. I see more clearly thanks to Schaeffer. read more

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has had it with this office. I've been going for 3 years. I already didn't like it because the optometrist is rude and always tries to find reasons for me to come back sooner. She has legit made me fear that I have cancer or neuro issues just to try to get me to do a return visit. I've worn contacts for 20 years and have never had these kinds of issues. The guy ringing me up this past visit didn't know how to calculate how many contacts I need in a year and asked me if I could do it for him. I'll reiterate again that the optometrist is the most rude health care professional I've ever encountered. I will say that the tech is really sweet. But seriously, just don't go here. read more

Really chill office. Centrally located in the heart of 5points. Private parking in the rear, and super friendly staff. Dr. B and Amber are great. They have a fun personality but still very professional. There are a lot of options for frames, they give you all the time and space necessary to choose the perfect pair. read more

The staff here does not like to listen to the patients. They act like know it alls and always give me a hard time. They always have a problem finding my insurance information. After an incident today, I will not be going back. The techs that work there don't care about the patients and the company as a whole just looks for more ways to squeeze money out of you. read more

Shopped for new glasses for my husband at Schaeffer Eye Center on Highland Ave. this morning. Store Manager Drake Hancock was professional, engaging, concerned about my husband's specific eyewear needs, and incredibly helpful. Drake worked patiently with us to find an ideal pair of glasses. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Had an eye exam and ordered glasses. First pair came in with the wrong prescription. They redid my eye exam and said they made a mistake so they reordered my glasses. 2 weeks later I hadn't heard a word so I called. Was put on hold for 20 min. I hung up at 20 min. Called back. Was put on hold for 7 min. Finally told my glasses had been shipped back with demo lenses installed. They apologized and told me when I came in I could select a pair of sunglasses as compensation for my trouble. Another 10 day wait. Glasses come in. I go to get them and ask about the offer of sunglasses. A nasty woman announces loudly from behind a counter that she's the only person that can approve such an offer and she doesn't know anything about it. So I tell her, well, that's what I was offered on the phone. She tells me she'll have to investigate it. A little while later they call and tell me that they have "a" pair of sunglasses I can have. No choice allowed. I go to get them and they are a pair that was clearly returned by someone. I ask to speak to the "manager" and all of a sudden she's unavailable. These people lie. They are overworked and under supported by the company. I'll never do business with them again. 36 days to get a pair of glasses is absurd and reneging on their offer is simply amateur. So sad this is what this business has been reduced to. read more

Very friendly staff. They were able to get me in on short notice. I got back to my appointment on time and was out in a reasonable timeframe. Parking is behind the building and fairly limited. There is limited street parking as well. The waiting area was very tidy as were the exam rooms. I was very happy overall. read more

What a rip off!!!!!!! $95 for contact lense fitting that says on the box that it's free and not for sale!!!!!!

It took 2 weeks for someone to email me my prescription even though I had signed the HIPPA waiver. Tried to order contacts and was told someone would have to call me back (Hoover location). Called back 3 times and was on a constant loop of automated messages, just to be told that no one could take my call. Called another location (Highland) and was told there was nothing they could do to help and that "when you do reach them, make sure you complain to them!" I'm trying to give this company money and I can't get anyone on the phone. read more

Scheduled appointment for 3:30. By 4pm, there were still 2 people ahead of me. When I told the receptionist that I needed to cancel, she didn't offer anything resembling an apology. Taking my business somewhere else- there's no excuse for an eye appointment taking longer than an hour, and this one was set to take 2. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised with the whole experience from the moment I came through the door to the frame selection. The doctor was very professional and caring and the exam was very thorough. Everyone there was courteous and professional and I will do business there again. read more

For 30 years I have been myopic (near sighted) and asked for a soft correction - as in, I wanted to be under-corrected. And everyone has been happy to accommodate me. I explained this to the optometrist at the clinic (Swain) and she became adversarial, and told me that I shouldn't tell her how to do her job. When I insisted that I knew what I wanted (and have fortunately found someone else to give it to me) she suggested that I just leave, which I did. But really, it was just bizarre, as I usually get along with people and she was all quivering with a raised voice, defensive and adversarial. I told her I wanted a collaborative approach to the glasses I will be paying for and wearing, but she considered herself to be the expert and took affront. I know she is wrong because other people have understood me just fine. It was really unprofessional. Then I called the office to tell them not to charge my insurance and was put on hold for twenty minutes. So, unprofessional! This clinic has really gone downhill.It was a good place to go for eye care in the past. read more
