They're very friendly, professional, polite, and forthcoming. I have always gone to an optometrist in my hometown of Holland, MI, but when I was in need to fresh contacts I decided to look for something local. Dr. Thompson's outstanding credentials were the deciding factor for me. Everything went along very smoothly and my prescription arrived quickly. Whilst fitting my glasses (which I didn't even purchase there), some damage was caused to my anti-scratch coating, purely an accident. However Dr. Thompson was very honest and understanding and replaced both lenses in my glasses at no cost to me. The only downside to Thompson Eyecare is one that I've found at many optometrists: a small selection of glasses frames. That kind of responsible, honest service is rare in businesses these days. They even gave me the student discount on my exam, even though I admitted to no longer being a student. I'm always happy to support a local business trying to make an honest living, but when you find such a business that treats you right, you stick with 'em, which I am sure do to with Thompson Eyecare. I purchased sunglasses from the SEE Eyewear store located at 2945 Preyde Road, Lansing, Michigan…read moreback in 2008. The sunglasses fell apart within six months of purchase. After vehemently arguing with SEE Eyewear headquarters, the lenses were placed into an identical frame by the SEE lab. The second pair fell apart in the same identical location that the previous glasses did. So, to finally resolve the issue, I had SEE take the lenses and place them into a different frame. I paid $52.47 on July 16, 2010 to have SEE cut the lenses to fit the new frame. Now, the lenses are peeling. There are cloudy blotches within the lenses. On Thursday, June 9, 2011, I left the sunglasses with one of SEE's associate at the Lansing store asking what is SEE going to do about replacing the lenses or fixing them in someway?? Is it necessary for me to Small Claims Court?? SEE responded to me through e-mail and told me to take my business else where. Today, July 29, 2011, met a SEE representative in Small Claim Courts. The Court first wanted to try mediation and had us both present our arguments to them. After I showed the sunglasses AND my regular glasses to the mediator, which clearly have blotches and peeling on the both of them, the SEE representative suggested that I was probably cleaning my counters and got chemicals on them. I responded that I didn't get the blotches from cleaning my counters. She need said, "Oh, you don't clean your counters?" She then indicated that I had coating on the glasses which caused blotchy cloudiness after a few years. I then pulled out my glasses that I bought from another eyeglass store about 6-7 years ago. They were crystal clear. She then said that when I took the glasses off my face incorrectly that damages the frames. What does that have to do with the lenses being blotchy and cloudy?? She also brought the warranty policy, which only covers one year. But even though the glasses are over a year old, my glasses from the other eye wear store are much older and they are still clear. Because the magistrate had left, the hearing had to be re-scheduled. While waiting for the clerk to give us the new paperwork, I said to the SEE rep, "who would wear their sunglasses to clean counters?? The glasses are merely made of inferior materials and SEE will not accept responsibility for their inferior products. The SEE rep said something really nasty to me and then I said something very nasty in return. She then told me how ignorant I was, and that it was expected of me. Typical. Basically, what she was saying is that all African-Americans are expected to act and behave in an ignorant manner. After we got the paperwork, I waited about 20 minutes to make sure she had driven off because I did not want any more contact with her.

What I've seen (no pun intended) is a growth. A change in priorities perhaps or a recognition as to the value of customer service. Or maybe the realization that customer service doesn't stop after you are greeted, nor does it end once you leave. Although I admit, a constant barrage of niceties and fluff would be rather annoying long term, it is especially refreshing that all the while you're being shuffled from one professional to another during the various phases of the exam, those attending to you are as I said; professional. Such growth. From 3 years ago to now, they've proven a difference. At least to me. My questions were thoughtfully answered. Their patience and understanding was present, the levity, the knowledge in the use and purpose of the equipment did not go unnoticed. Kudos to LO Eye Care on their turn around. The front desk staff was warm and friendly. We didn't have to wait long at all. The optometrist, Dr J Dreslinski, is likely the most high energy, passionate, and willing-to-explain-things optometrist that I have personally ever seen. My daughter, 8, felt comfortable the whole time. Their frames selection is good, on the pricey side. We unfortunately have to pay for appt, frames & lenses out of pocket and were relieved that they offer a payment plan.

Sure enough, the glasses I had (and the three different lenses sold to me between two different locations) couldn't improve my vision, because there's nothing wrong with my vision. Here, they're not in the business of selling designer frames and disposable contacts, and the difference is like night and day. I just wish I had come sooner. That's not all, though. Just the other morning, I noticed blood in one of my eyes. Alarmed, I called and explained what was going on. Two and a half hours after my call, I was in the doctor's chair, getting checked out. Lucky me, it wasn't a big deal. But, knowing I could call with a concern like that and be seen so quickly was really comforting. Need glasses? Get them at one of the boutiques in Milford.
