What's concerning is that this only happened after I specifically asked them to review my scans again. Had I not pushed for a second review, I genuinely worry they may have proceeded with surgery despite the risks. I also requested a direct explanation from the doctor and never received one. Instead, I had to repeatedly call the office just to get basic answers and speak with someone knowledgeable. My impression is that the process felt far more focused on moving patients through surgery than on patient safety and communication. I would strongly encourage anyone considering a procedure here to ask detailed questions, seek a second opinion, and carefully review whether they are truly a good candidate before moving forward. I also felt the recovery expectations were presented in a way that understated how difficult and lengthy recovery can actually be.

He had a flat affect and set a negative stage. I said I prob need more than a routine eye exam but was happy to start w that. He lmk that a dry eye test isn't covered by ins (which is fine) and not to expect that I could do both in one visit (also fine). He then said, the appt will be 15 min tops, so it's not a time to ask questions. I said, of course I want to be able to ask a couple questions, espec bc of eye irritation lately. He said, "I see your insurance is (x) and that only pays us like $60 per visit. We can't give patients longer than 15, we'd go out of business" (!) I couldn't believe it. The rudeness and the gall of mentioning my coverage resulted in poor profit for them. I suggested he NOT say those things to new or returning patients and he said he was trying to manage expectations, that patients "always complain" they want to be seen longer but it's not doable. Talk about poor patient relations/ customer service. I realize what the medical system is up against w insurance is rough, but never has a public-facing clinic employee been so dissuading about the care their provider provides. I can't NOT recommend this place enough; take your business to an office that will value it.

From my very first initial contact, the staff was quick to respond, was warm, professional, and so patient in answering every question. They explained the entire process in plain language so I felt informed and comfortable before even stepping foot in the office. When I came in for my consultation, Dr. Rivers was just as kind, personable, and friendly as everyone had described. He walked me through the different vision correction options, explained the pros and cons of each, and made recommendations based on my needs -- without ever making me feel pressured. I ended up choosing the SMILE procedure, which was offered at a flat, affordable cost for both eyes (no hidden fees or "per eye" surprises that I was seeing everywhere). The procedure itself was fast and smooth. Dr. Rivers has such a calming presence he talked me through every step, making sure I was comfortable and fear-free. There's even a waiting area where your family or friends can watch the procedure if they'd like, which I thought was a cool touch. I noticed a difference in my vision immediately after the procedure -- I could read the time on the digital clock in the wall right away! By the next day, my vision was perfectly clear. They sent me home with everything I needed: eyedrops for moisture, antibiotic drops, sunglasses, coupons!!! and clear instructions for aftercare. I experienced only minimal discomfort in the days following. The office is beautiful!!! It's modern, great views, clean, and spacious, with plenty of comfortable seating. The location is super convenient, and I loved that there was garage parking with an exterior door that led directly into their office (no awkward walking around a building post-procedure!). Now, a year later, my vision is still perfect. The best part? Waking up and not needing to reach for glasses or think about contact lenses at all. It's been truly life-changing. If you've been on the fence about LASIK or SMILE, I can't recommend Dr. Rivers and the Envue team enough. They made the entire process easy, comfortable, and -- best of all -- successful!

On top of their decades of experience and time working as a team together, the facility is stunning. Everything was spotless, the equipment is all brand new, there's parking, and the staff themselves are all extremely sanitary! I wouldn't want anyone else working on my eyes and I would go back again in a heartbeat. Procedure performed on the wrong eye.I had my first LASIK procedure with Dr. Mark Whitten in 2005…read morefor vision correction. Naturally, about 15 years later, I needed another correction and returned to Dr. Whitten for a consultation. During that visit, he recommended monovision, given my age at the time (late 40s). He explained that this approach would allow me to balance both near- and far-sighted vision without needing reading glasses, which many people begin using in their 50s. However, after the procedure I immediately noticed difficulty seeing clearly. Over the following year, I continued to struggle with my vision--particularly problematic in my work as a professional photographer--and sought evaluations from multiple optometrists and ophthalmologists. I then discovered that the LASIK procedure had been performed on the wrong eye. When I returned to see Dr. Whitten, I learned that neither he nor his staff had ever determined my dominant eye prior to surgery. In fact, my old patient notes from 2020 confirm that no such test was performed. Despite this, no apology was offered for the mistake. During that visit, I was seen by John Rogers, a technician and former Senior Surgical Consultant at TLC Vision. His background includes attending Computer Tech of Pittsburgh, but he has no formal education or degree in optometry or ophthalmology. He suggested inappropriate options such as cataract surgery (for which I am not a candidate) and during the same visit Dr. Whitten suggested undergoing yet another LASIK procedure (a third) to correct the issue or resorting to contact lenses--the very reason I had LASIK in the first place. This experience left me with the strong impression that the practice prioritizes business and profit over genuine patient care and vision correction. I regret not doing more thorough research before returning for a second procedure, as I have since learned of multiple malpractice lawsuits filed against Dr. Whitten, including Jamie Domeier vs. Mark Whitten, David Cantalupo vs. Mark Whitten, and Liesl Nichols vs. Mark Whitten. I also couldn't help but notice the promotional posters displayed across his offices, highlighting his LASIK surgery on Tiger Woods in 1999 as a marketing tool to brand himself as a "celebrity" doctor. Unfortunately, beyond the image, his apparent lack of attention and care for patients has led to a troubling number of lawsuits.

At that time, my mom handled most of the paperwork/scheduling etc. The surgery went well, and 10 years later I started experienced some vision changes. I recalled that there was a "Lifetime Guarantee," so recently I followed up and requested a consultation for an enhancement. My mother recently passed away, and I haven't been able to find any paperwork for my procedure (which was 15 years ago). I called the office, and they were able to find my file. They asked me how long I'd been going to the eye doctor, and I said about 5 years (since I had a baby and my vision declined). I arrived at the consultation, and it went well. Friendly office staff, etc. I was excited to find out that I was eligible for an enhancement in both eyes. As I was about to leave the appointment, they sat me down with someone to "review paperwork," which is when she informed me that since I hadn't had a full vision evaluation annually since my surgery, I wasn't eligible for the "Lifetime Guarantee" and that I would be charged $3,000 for the enhancement. I asked why it was expected to go to vision appointments annually when you have perfect vision, and she said "company policy." I understand that they are legally in the right, and I'm sure I was informed of this as a teenager; however, I feel taken advantage of. It felt like an ethically ambiguous money-grabbing situation. The surgery went well and I'm sure Dr. Whitten is very skilled; however, the follow-up experience was poor. Be cautious.

I had been looking to…read moreget LASIK for the past year and decided that this would the perfect time due to being able to work from home. A few things attracted me to EDOW: the convenient location (in Tyson's), the latest LASIK technology, the experienced doctors, transparent website with all the forms, risks, videos, etc. and it not being a massive chain. There was also a $1000 off promotion for PRK and Custom LASIK when I scheduled. I like that each LASIK procedure included a customized eye mapping to prevent some of the negative side effects (halos, glare, etc.) which I learned is not standard for all practices. The whole process was seamless from the initial free consultation that I was able to schedule for the following day to the post operative appointments. The initial consultation included a standard eye exam, cornea mapping, vision evaluation and eye health exam. Jon was extremely helpful in answering questions and explaining each step. My eyes were healthy and my corneas were thick enough so I was approved! I was able to schedule the pre-op, LASIK surgery and post-op immediately after the appointment. For the next two weeks, the tech instructed me to wear my glasses to allow my eyes to return to its natural shape. All the appointments are confirmed online which is very easy. The pre-op only took about 45 minutes. This is when my eyes were dilated, mapped, and the "true" prescription was assessed for the surgery. They also ordered my prescriptions through Friendly's Pharmacy for delivery to my home. The antibiotic and corticosteroid drops were delivered the following day. All very easy! The actual surgery day was about 2 weeks later at 2pm on a Thursday. I was in and out within 35 minutes! In the first room, Jon administered a bunch of drops (numbing, antibiotics, others) and also gave me a Valium. They also gave me glasses, eye shields, post care instructions and some lubricating drops for home. A few minutes later I walked to the LASIK suite where I laid down for the procedure. Dr. Kang explained each step and the expected feelings and sounds so I was completely at ease. I never felt any pain whatsoever. The first machine applied some pressure my eyes one at a time, my vision went temporarily blurry and then I was moved to the next machine to reshape the cornea. I focused on the green light and noticed the slight burning smell. But felt I absolutely no pain or discomfort at this point. The whole procedure lasted maybe 5-7 minutes. I then went a another room where Dr. Kang evaluated my eyes. I was then sent on my way! My vision was already was about the same as when I wore glasses just sensitive to light and a bit hazy. The first 2 hours were probably the most uncomfortable since my eyes felt heavy from the drops and I felt a bit dizzy. I napped with my face mask and new eye shield since my eyes just felt sensitive and tired. Two hours later I felt like a completely different person. I did wear sunglasses inside to avid glare and diligently began my eye drop regime. I was able to watch TV and that night without an issue. The following day was magical as I woke up with better vision than I had with contacts. I had very little dryness and none of the halos/glare/redness people talk about. That morning, I drove myself to for the post op where the optometrist said I had 20/15 and with almost no inflammation or discomfort. I even ran that afternoon. I would HIGHLY recommend this practice if considering LASIK. Everyone was extremely professional, knowledgeable and skilled. I attribute my speedy recovery and excellent results to them. Just remember those drops!!

The front-of-house (front desk and the folks that fit your glasses) are often very young, unprofessional, and not well-informed about eyewear or basic customer service. They struggle to answer questions clearly, offer poor or incorrect advice, and overall seem unsure of how to communicate with patients. For anyone getting glasses for the first time or navigating more complex vision needs, this can quickly become a frustrating and stressful experience. You truly need to do your own research ahead of time and know exactly what you're looking for before you walk in--otherwise you may end up in a nightmare scenario. Scheduling appointments is another challenge. Every phone call feels like an inconvenience to them; the tone is unhelpful, rushed, and sometimes even dismissive. There's often audible sighing or irritation when trying to find an appointment time that works. It's clear they don't want to be there, and unfortunately it shows in the service. The only reason I continue to return is because this is the closest location covered by my insurance. If proximity or insurance coverage isn't an issue for you, I would strongly recommend choosing a different provider. The doctors are excellent, but the overall experience is significantly downgraded by the front desk staff.
