Dr. Cheung is a fantastic doctor. I've been seeing him for a few years now and he recently helped me get new glasses to help correct a minor stigmatism. Now it's much easier for me to drive at night. I've also brought my young son in to see him for regular check-ups and he's great with him. I highly recommend Dr. Cheung and his team at Eye Contact Optometry. read more

I have been a customer of Eye Contact Optometry since the late 1990s, starting with Dr. Vandenberg and then Dr. Cheung. The service provider is top notch and the selection of eyewear is nicely curated. A special shout out to Ed Boxer who ensures that every fit exceptional and who runs the office impeccably. read more

Doctor is great, very helpful and knows what he is doing. The person who answers the phone Ed is EXTREMELY rude. Very condescending and acts like he doesn't want to be there and hates his job. This is a busy time a year, however patients should never feel like we are bothering you. Bad patient care, I'll never return here again and will tell everyone about my horrible experience with Ed at this office. read more

I have been coming to Eye Contact Optometry for over 10 years and I always receive exceptional service! Dr Cheung, Ed and Désirée are knowledgeable, kind, and thorough. Most importantly to me, they are personable and professional. Their office is clean and I enjoy the selection of glasses to choose from. They are the best eye care office without doubt. Ds read more

This is a great place to go if you want a good optometry experience . Dr Kenji is friendly and really takes time explaining any problems with your eyes and can talk through medical issues that affect your eyes. Ed and the other woman (sorry... forgot your name!) are awesome at helping you pick frames. They are both experts in figuring out the best way to maximize your insurance benefits. It's a great place all the way around! read more

As always great service! Dr. Kenji is wonderful and explains everything, answers questions we might have during the exam. My daughter switched from glasses to contact lenses and we do exams every year and order lenses right there. Usually she will try a new "prescription" for a few days, to see that it is the correct ones and feels comfortable... read more

Dr Kenji and Ed are AMAZING!!! Thorough eye exam with state of the art equipment, great selection of eyewear and kind and compassionate care! The BEST experience! read more

Doctor was very sweet but the office manager was awful and couldn't get my prescription. After several visits and ensuring his rudeness, I asked for a refund. He denied it, but also denied fixing the glasses. Sadly, I took my useless glasses and the financial loss. Found a great doctor and office staff in Campbell! read more

Short version- great doctor, horrible front desk. If you have patience to deal with these folks who seem to have forgotten that customers pay for their paychecks, I will highly recommend Dr Chuang. Long version - Dr Kenji Chuang has been one of the best optometrists I have worked with - whether it comes to his personality or investment in technology. However, as nice as he is, his staff is rude, arrogant and outright childish. Their tone of talking to people - not just me based on other reviews - is unprofessional and loud. For example, this week when I called to check what time they close, the lady seemed to insist multiple times that the shop closes at "sharp" 5:30, in spite of telling her I will be there by 3:30. It was almost like she did not want my business. Then in the shop when I was trying out frames, they insisted I had the mask on. How does one try out eyeglasses on top of the mask and be convinced both about fit and aesthetics. Moreover, the county guidelines specifically allow removal of mask for - and I quote - "when they are actively performing an activity that cannot be done while wearing a face covering (e.g., actively eating or drinking, swimming or showering in a fitness facility, or obtaining a medical or cosmetic service requiring removal of a face covering);". Isn't a prescription eyewear by definition a combination of medical and cosmetic service? https://covid19.sccgov.org/order-health-officer-08-02-2021-requiring-all-to-use-face-covering-indoors When I removed mask barely enough and barely for a moment to see myself wearing the glasses, both these folks yelled at me in unison, as if they were exactly waiting for the moment. Mind you, I was more than 6 ft away from any of them. Also mind you, this is not some kind of anti vax rant. I am triple vaccinated and have followed all county mandates in letter and spirit. So the bottom line is - if you like unnecessary drama in your life and don't mind putting up with these kind of behaviors, I highly recommend the doctor. Looking at reviews by others, seems like I am not the only one to have this kind of experience. Speaking for myself, I am done. read more

Doctors are kind and attentive but office manager Ed is incredibly rude and impatient. Very passive aggressive towards my mother who has a learning disability and is not a native English speaker. Whenever she asked questions about glasses or requested an explanation for charges he would audibly sigh and answer unprofessionally with little patience. My family had been clients here for many years but finally decided to look elsewhere and have since had a much better experience going to the eye doctor. read more

I have been coming here for 3 years already and this review is long overdue. Dr Kenji is super friendly and professional. The optometry exams are very thorough. I go there with my son and we take turns for our exams. The best part is they never push you to buy the eye frames. I have a friend who lives in Japan and after a trip to Japan and having purchased my frames there, now I order them through her ;-) One of the reasons for changing optometrist was because the other place was always super pushy to buy the most expensive brand frames. I'm so happy I found Eye Contact Optometry! read more

Doctors Chuang and Kawazoe get five stars, but they aren't the problem with this place. The office manager, Ed, is the reason I'll never set foot in there again. There are too many optometrists who will be glad to have my business, and not have an absurd passive-aggressive office manager who regards customers as a nuisance. I won't tolerate it, and neither should anyone else. read more

Ed makes this organization run smoothly, and has provided valuable service here since the days of Dr Vandenberg. Ever bend or break your glasses? Chewed by a dog or otherwise mangled? Ed will help make it right again. That's the best felling! read more

Eye Contact Optometry - Optometrists Near Me - Los Gatos, California

Love This business. Today my BF had his cycling glasses ( screw came out). He put in a new screw on the frame for free even though we offered cash. I can't wait to go back and buy my Oakley cycling glasses from him. Dr Randy Vandenberg What a nice man. Thank you so much!!! read more

Always 5 star service at Eye Contact Optometry. I've been coming there for about 10 years. Dr. Chuang is my optometrist now and he is fabulous; very professional, kind, & thorough. They recently remodeled the office & have an even bigger selection of super stylish eye frames. Ed, the office manager really is on top of any insurance questions & is great when booking appointments. read more

EEK! No, no freebie--I had to pay. Oh, darn! Anyway, these guys are amazing--extremely friendly, calm, sense of humor. Everyone here makes you feel like a temporary family person. You not only get an optometry exam but also a real intensive eye exam making sure your eyes are healthy and ready to be corrected with the right lenses. In my case, the lenses were totally wrong that I purchased elsewhere 3 yrs ago. I could not wear them at all. Now the new distance glasses are amazing--and shade out intensive light/sun as well. Very professional, high quality eye exam. Thanks, all of you. read more

Saw Dr Kenji. Awesome visit. He took a ton of time to get my rx right. Explained everything to me and ultimately proposed a dramatic shift to what LensCrafters had recommended. (I had uncorrected astigmatism in my left eye that was making it hard to read Dr. Kenji identified and fixed). Will be back for life. read more

Did a standard eye exam with Dr Kenji Chuang and was impressed by the care and detail. Felt like I was in knowledgeable and compassionate hands. read more

I had a great experience here and will keep coming back. The staff was very nice and Dr Chuang was very thorough with my eye exam and very accommodating, as I had my 2 month old baby with me. He even took the time to refit my glasses which had been falling down my nose for years! Easy parking. read more

Great experience overall. Modern equipment including retinal imager (which can help detect problems like detached retinas before they become serious) and automatic prescription measurement (which Dr. Chuang uses in tandem with the "which is clearer, 1 or 2" method :). Dr. Chuang took the time to really fine-tune my prescription, and recommended some contacts that I love - with them I can see 20/20 near and far (with presbyopia and a slight stigmatism in one eye). If you're price-sensitive, make sure you get detailed pricing for everything you're getting. I'd asked when making the appointment and was given a price for the exam and retinal imaging. After the exam, I found out that the contact lens fitting cost extra, and "extra" was the same price as the exam itself, nearly doubling my total. Wouldn't stop me from going back (I have a follow-up appointment in 3 weeks in fact), but if you don't have awesome insurance, make sure you let the doctor know you need to monitor costs (I'd only talked to Ed about pricing). read more

I was recommended here after telling a friend I was unhappy with the service at my optometrist (uncaring attitude, old equipment, etc) and I was really happy they did! Dr. Chuang is very thorough and gave me great recommendations for contacts, not to mention their office has state of the art equipment including a machine that can cut custom fitted glasses lenses and another machine that can take a picture of the back of your eyeball that I've only really seen in ophthalmologist's offices. I'll definitely be returning next year! read more

This is a terrific place, with unique designers and brands for adults that you don't see everywhere else. Their selection for kids' frames is impressive too; I was so tired of all the boring typical kids' frames at other places. It was nice to finally find attractive styles here for boys and girls. It's a standalone office on the street, but there is helpful signage to find it, and there is front, side and back street parking available, as well as nearby lots. It is very easy to make an appointment here (I've done both online and phone appointments) for traditional services, but I have dropped in unexpectedly and the office has been accommodating. For example, the younglings needed their frames adjusted and broken nosepads repaired and the office was quick and helpful. The office is clean and bright. We always feel welcome here to try out every frame (we do, ha ha!). I appreciate that the exams and procedures are comprehensive and seem state of the art. Both docs are exceptional, professional and ready to clearly explain everything. The front office staff is also friendly. I do not often volunteer a recommendation to friends, but this is one I always point out to folks to check out! read more

I work at a power plant and I need presciption safety glasses. Often I have to go to two different eye doctors to get both regular prescription glasses and prescription safety glasses. At the Eye Contact, they carry both types. The staff there is always excellent. My wife a many different eye issues and medical problems and they are always very patient with her. We are both very happy with them and travel from Nevada to see them. I highly recommend them. Eric Selvig Sparks, NV read more

I thought they were great! I hadn't had my eyes checked in years, and they made sure that my insurance would cover everything and did a thorough exam. I walked out of there with new glasses and only paid $32 out of pocket! Clean, professional, and they'll even help you pick out good frames for your face! read more

Dr. Chuang, Dr. Kawazoe, and Ed take their time to make sure that I'm happy with the exam and the eye wear that I picked up. They are very professional and friendly. I've been to few other optometrists but they did not run as many exam as Dr. Chuang and Dr. Kawazoe. The contact lens that they picked out for me works great!! Their location is excellent and makes my trip to optometrist so much more enjoyable. Always look forward to take break from my work to visit their practice and downtown Los Gatos. read more

Dr. Kawazoe gave me the finest examination I have ever had in my entire life. She was thorough to a tee and even allowed me to test outside light conditions. She listened to my concerns and helped me find the exact prescription. That was three years ago and I now live in a different city in the San Diego area. Ed Boxer just assisted me with emailing me a copy of my prescription that I had misplaced. Even though it is old, he helped me get the information I needed for comparison purposes. A super group of trained people exist here. Thank you all. Maybe I will see you again in my travels. I highly recommend this business. read more

After being turned away by Ed at the front desk because they were closed (before closing time), then being double charged by the very same Ed my next time in, I can say I will not be returning. Hopefully someone there will figure out how to issue a refund. read more

I've been to many optometrists over the last 3 decades, and the service, warranty, and selection of glasses is the best, especially if you're looking for alternative, or in my case, Asian, fit glasses and nose bridges. I've seen other offices with a wider selection, but the choices here are far superior and if much better quality. Their offerings have obviously been carefully curated. read more

My family will never return to Eye Contact Optometry. While traveling to LA I lost one of my contact lenses. Luckily, I was able to locate an optometrist who agreed to stay open after hours to help me. When I called Eye Contact asking for my prescription they would not give it to me. I asked them to fax it to the optometrist in LA and the woman on the phone began to argue with me. I explained that this was an emergency and if she would just fax me my prescription everything would be fine. She muttered an angry, "OK," before hanging up on me. Upon arriving at the optometrist in LA, who was already closed, I learned that Eye Contact had not faxed over the needed information. I tried calling again for the next hour, Eye Contact would not answer the phone. I was extremely disappointed and upset. We will not be going back to Eye Contact ever again. read more

I think I'm luckily "blessed" with bad eye site because I am considered medically necessary coverage, however Dr. Chuang is probably one of the best individuals out there. Not only are his appointments thorough (patient with his patients, informative, great people person), he also goes far and beyond with checking your coverage with ever changing jobs / needs (contacts or glasses?). Truly a considerate and kind individual where his professionalism is unique and refreshing. Even remembered my name on a random crossing of paths! Hoping my vision insurance will always be accepted here! read more

Today's reason to be thankful is that I bumped into Eye Contact Optometry :). We moved to the Los Gatos area recently and my son needed an eye check and a new pair of vision glasses. We found Eye Contact Optometry through our Vision insurance company and called for a same-day appointment. They were very accommodating and found us a spot, which I was very thankful for, since it's December 29th! The visit was very thorough. The doctor took all the time to explain the science of the eye to my teenage son, who appeared interested in the subject. I couldn't have been happier. Once done, the selection of frames was excellent and again they were extremely accommodating, explained exactly what the insurance covered and what not. The best way to describe the service, professionalism and experience overall is: PERFECT. Well done. You gained an enthusiastic customer today! Expect referrals :) read more

I was new to the Los Gatos area and hadn't located a new eye doc yet, but then one day lost one of my hard contacts. I called a couple other places first, but they all said it would be 1-2 weeks to get me a new set of hard contacts and/or eye glasses (I didn't have a backup pair--my bad). Then I called EyeContact and they were able to get me in to see the doc the same day (lucky me, maybe they were just slow that day--can't guarantee everyone would get that lucky). The doc was very kind and polite, the equipment all new, the office clean and cute (although some more comfy seating and reading material in the waiting area wouldn't be amiss), and the receptionist very knowledgeable, informative, and helpful. I got a full eye exam, including my prescription checked, the checks for glaucoma and macular degeneration, and got photos of my retina as a baseline for future exams. The receptionist and the doctor helped me pick out frames for my backup glasses, and I was told my contacts and glasses would be ready within just a few days. I was very happy with my experience there, and I intend to keep this office as my optometrist for as long as I live in Los Gatos (unless things suddenly change for the worse there). Highly recommended! read more

I drive all the way from Santa Cruz to get my exams done here. It's in a great location, the staff are incredibly nice and obviously really want to make sure that you get the best eye care possible. Good selection of frames, all in all very helpful - I know I'm in good hands when I go there. I've had not so great experiences at other places, and so-so at others. This is by far the best optometry office that I've found! read more

Very professional and friendly service! My husband and I decided to get our eye exams done here while on a mini vacation to the bay area...because there's nothing like celebrating labor day with a trip to the optometrist! There is nothing I appreciate more than a clean and organized store. Dr. Chuang did a very thorough eye exam, is very knowledgeable, and above all, is very patient. He was able to answer all my questions and addressed my concerns. The office itself is located in a very quaint neighborhood. They have a wide selection of top brand name frames and sunglasses, and we ended up walking out with a pair of sunglasses each and a pair of eyeglasses for my husband. Too bad we're not from the area, but I would definitely return to Eye Contact Optometry for future out of town check-ups! read more

We had a great experience with Eye Contact. I was looking for an optometrist that could see me last minute before my benefits expired for the year. Most places wouldn't even try to fit me in. Eye Contact not only got me a next day appointment, but they were wonderfully cooperative about my procrastination and made everything work with my benefits. My husband came in to help me pick frames and they fit him in for an exam too! Dr. Chuang was really enjoyable. He was friendly and explained everything really well. Afterwards, I needed new frames and there was such amazing selection and a really pressure-free shopping environment. I chose a really fun pair of Michael Kors glasses and got advice about coatings and extras. i can't wait until they arrive! We will definitely be going back to Eye Contact! read more
