At first sight, it was so overwhelmingly large with three large covered gas pump areas. Upon going inside, it was definitely larger than any truck stop in California. I was told the first area to visit at Buc-ee's are the restrooms. Definitely well kept and much cleaner than any gas stations period that I have ever been to. I definitely did not go there just to check out the bathrooms, but for the many Buc-ee's logo'd souvenirs, snacks and especially barbecue seasonings and sauces. Their hot food area like hot Brisket sandwiches, sausage wrapped in a tortilla on a stick, brisket burritos, candied nuts, a wall of almost every fountain drink available, slushies, and so much more. I had to go through my list of items to pick up as well as items requested by friends and family. It felt like it was my first time at an amusement park or the toy store. I think we were short of two hours trying to make sure we got everything we came for. Just in case I missed anything or didn't get to try a sample of fudge, jerky, nuts, cookies, or whatever else, we had plans to go to San Antonio the following day and there would be a Buc-ee's on the way at New Braunfels. Sure enough, we made a quicker stop in the New Braunfels location just before San Antonio. It was a fun experience and definitely anytime I am passing by a Buc-ee's location, I am going in planned or not planned.

The gas prices are lower than most, and the restrooms are clean, which are definitely positives. However, I've started to notice that food prices are getting too high for my budget. Additionally, I've observed a decline in the quality of some items they make in-store, like the BBQ sandwiches. Furthermore, this location isn't the easiest to exit if you're heading east on Highway 71. I hope they keep their prices competitive, but I'm seeing more competition around them, so I might start trying other places. Ultimately, price is the most important factor for me.

Bathrooms weren't particularly clean, and the overall store was about as clean as tidy as you'd see a Pilot or Love's. I thought the prices actually were a tad higher than Buc-ee's but it probably depends on the item. I am 'over' the Bu-cee's experience and crowds myself, but still, I'd wait the minute or two to turn at the TX-21 light and pay them a visit over this particular QT.

If you ask for spicy salsa, they give you a little bit of what looks like a cool, green creamy avocado salsa. But don't get fooled by appearances. It packs a wallop! We each two tacos each and were very full. I had a mole taco and a barbacoa taco. My wife had bacon egg and cheese tacos. They were all generously filled. They're authentic enough that you really don't need to add cheese. And the bacon was the type you get at the Super Mercado, not at HEB. It's all pretty authentic, and I'm glad it's so close to home. I'm keeping my 5-star rating for this place. It's an Aim Mart now (no longer Woodies), with an Exxon out front, this Mexican place, Hunt Brothers Pizza, clean restrooms and a beer cave inside. They have nice 70% dark chocolate bars (several to choose from), and your standard convenience store items. Each has pump has a squeegee with soapy water. My friend who is purchasing comes outside and we wait about 1 minute for the friend using the restroom. Once that individual was in the car we stayed and were chatting for maybe 4-5 minutes to figure out what our plans were next. I get an angry glare from an employee with longer white hair. So I make confused face and she comes outside. Her first words were "can I help you" which of course rubs me the wrong way considering yes you did just help us actually inside when purchases an item from you store.... Then her next words are... "Well I can call The police" ....EXCUSE ME?!?!?!?!?!? Where was I wrong here folks? My honest opinion is because we are all in our mid 20's she was assuming we were up to something???? I'm not sure what her reasoning was.. So I politely pulled away when she said she would call the police ( for no reason ). She wouldn't give me her name, the only info she would give me was the managers name and what time she came in the next day. She was rude. Yelling. And it seems as if now the food quality is going down as well. Today the rice tasted a bit off & we only received ONE PIECE of fajita in both are fajita tacos....that's just unacceptable. I have had a long day working at home, and it takes me 20 min to drive into town, and today I'm doing it purely to come here because I like them, and they conveniently carry stuff I need. But wouldn't you know, I pull up at 7:48 and they are walking out. I think that's odd, they're closing almost 15 min early which is pretty crappy business practice, but regardless oh great I've caught them just in time. How foolish of me to think so...I wave to the woman, who surely recognizes me as a regular customer at this point, and say oh I'm just in time I only need one thing! and she looks at the older man who presumably runs the liquor shop and he starts shaking his head saying "no no no no, 8 o'clock we out of here!" Mind you, THE TIME IS NOW 7:50, and I pulled up several minutes ago. But they do not have one care, and lock their damn doors in my face. The trouble actually started yesterday (Sunday; the above happened on a Monday)--their hours on every online map & resource say the convenience store side is open on Sundays from 3-8pm. So I drive that damn 20 min to show up at 3:30-no one. Their barely legible hand scrawled hours on the door say closed on Sundays, of course. The liquor part yes, but why the store part? Alright whatever, great, perfect y'all, please make sure your freaking hours are updated on the internet, it's not that difficult! So that was another however many gallons of gas wasted two days in a row. Mostly I was just really let down & disappointed because I thought I'd found a perfect little place to make my new shop, but after this evening, having the door locked in my face 10+ min before closing time, it left me feeling really unvalued as a customer--like they don't give a crap, they just want to leave ASAP. Which also says something about the sort of establishment this probably is and what it's like to work at. Needless to say, I won't be returning:( and am back on the hunt again for a smoke shop with a decent selection & price range that doesn't require me to drive 45 min into Austin. Ugh.
