Apparently, he had heard all about this legendary Southern pit stop from friends, and he was determined to experience it for himself. This place is an absolute adventure. We found the most RANDOM things! The wall of jerky was impressive, the quirky kitchen gadgets would make hilarious gifts, and the beauty aisle had me cracking up with its foodie-themed eye masks. My son spent a solid 45+ minutes debating what souvenir was worthy of making the trip home. And then there's the FOOD. Holy options! Watching the crew prepare sandwiches right in front of you was practically entertainment in itself. They have quite the operation going! We were dangerously close to grabbing a box of fudge because the deal was too good to pass up, but we didn't want to over-do-it. Instead, we shared a chopped brisket sandwich and a Cuban. Both were delicious, but that Cuban?! The dill pickle aioli was fantastic, and the sandwich was absolutely loaded with meat. We were stuffed! My only complaint? For a place with this much food, "where are the tables?" We ended up eating in the car, which turned into a deliciously messy situation. A little indoor seating would've made the experience even better. On the plus side, gas was the cheapest we saw around, restrooms were plentiful, and the sandwich deal was a steal! Less than $10 for each of our sandwiches? Buc-ee's is officially more than a gas station in my book. It's a shopping excursion, food adventure, and roadside attraction all rolled into one. Unfortunately, the mozz sticks were sitting under a heat lamp... and if you know anything about mozz sticks is that they do not do well once they are pulled from the fryer. Heat lamp mozz sticks just wouldn't hit the same. Then came the $4 price tag for 4 sticks. Meh... seems steep for gas station heat lamp mozz sticks. We passed on them. We each two tacos each and were very full. I had a mole taco and a barbacoa taco. My wife had bacon egg and cheese tacos. They were all generously filled. They're authentic enough that you really don't need to add cheese. And the bacon was the type you get at the Super Mercado, not at HEB. It's all pretty authentic, and I'm glad it's so close to home. I'm keeping my 5-star rating for this place. It's an Aim Mart now (no longer Woodies), with an Exxon out front, this Mexican place, Hunt Brothers Pizza, clean restrooms and a beer cave inside. They have nice 70% dark chocolate bars (several to choose from), and your standard convenience store items. Each has pump has a squeegee with soapy water. And there's always people shopping there but never a line. What more can you ask for in a gas station?

My friend who is purchasing comes outside and we wait about 1 minute for the friend using the restroom. Once that individual was in the car we stayed and were chatting for maybe 4-5 minutes to figure out what our plans were next. I get an angry glare from an employee with longer white hair. So I make confused face and she comes outside. Her first words were "can I help you" which of course rubs me the wrong way considering yes you did just help us actually inside when purchases an item from you store.... Then her next words are... And it seems as if now the food quality is going down as well. Today the rice tasted a bit off & we only received ONE PIECE of fajita in both are fajita tacos....that's just unacceptable. But wouldn't you know, I pull up at 7:48 and they are walking out. How foolish of me to think so...I wave to the woman, who surely recognizes me as a regular customer at this point, and say oh I'm just in time I only need one thing! and she looks at the older man who presumably runs the liquor shop and he starts shaking his head saying "no no no no, 8 o'clock we out of here!" Mind you, THE TIME IS NOW 7:50, and I pulled up several minutes ago. But they do not have one care, and lock their damn doors in my face. The trouble actually started yesterday (Sunday; the above happened on a Monday)--their hours on every online map & resource say the convenience store side is open on Sundays from 3-8pm. So I drive that damn 20 min to show up at 3:30-no one. Their barely legible hand scrawled hours on the door say closed on Sundays, of course. The liquor part yes, but why the store part? Alright whatever, great, perfect y'all, please make sure your freaking hours are updated on the internet, it's not that difficult! So that was another however many gallons of gas wasted two days in a row. Mostly I was just really let down & disappointed because I thought I'd found a perfect little place to make my new shop, but after this evening, having the door locked in my face 10+ min before closing time, it left me feeling really unvalued as a customer--like they don't give a crap, they just want to leave ASAP. Which also says something about the sort of establishment this probably is and what it's like to work at.
