I get severe anxiety in big, crowded places. And that's what this was. It was big, crowded, and…read morefull of tchotchkes I didn't want, need or love. I bought a sandwich and some water and got out of there. I will never return. In fairness to them, the place was surprisingly clean, well organized, seemed well managed. The staff seemed nice enough - just working hard to ring up all the people buying their tchotchkes.

I stopped at Buc-ee's in Madisonville around 8:30 PM. The parking lot was nearly empty, and I…read moreparked my semi truck all the way in the very back of the lot, away from everyone. I walked in planning to spend maybe 20 minutes max just to buy a few souvenirs, snacks, and a few things to take home to my kids and family. Shortly after I walked in, I was approached and told I wasn't allowed to be there because I came in a semi truck. I explained that I was only going to be inside for a few minutes to buy a few items, but I was told they would not allow me to purchase anything. I was also told, "Unfortunately truckers are not welcome." Those were his exact words. That was extremely disappointing to hear. Truck drivers are a huge part of what keeps this country moving. We deliver the products businesses sell every single day, including the products sitting on Buc-ee's shelves. To be told we're not welcome and not even allowed to make a purchase is sad and frustrating. Because of this experience, I will never return to Buc-ee's again, not even in my personal vehicle. I'd much rather spend my money at a truck stop or any business that welcomes everyone and appreciates the people who help keep America moving.

It has become a perpetual destination for whenever I'm on the road and it's open 24/7. As I understand it, it's only been around for the past couple of years. As a result the place still feels new, is bright and has a lot going on. The bathrooms are spacious, clean, and well maintained. The people behind the counter are usually nice ladies, and there are multiple areas to pay for things. Thus, no lines and even when things are busy, it never feels crowded. Aside from the attached Whataburger, they have their own line of hot (mainly fried) foods from potato wedges to fried chicken. "Crispidos" are their local claim to fame and basically giant fried taquitos. It's most definitely crispy and filling, and I can see why people enjoy them so much. This is also a trucker sanctuary, equipped with gas stations and parking spots for semi-trucks, as well as a lounge and shower area. The rest of the shop has all of the road trip essentials from little snacks, cold drinks, and plenty of "Texas" souvenirs. Lastly, it's a Tesla Supercharger destination. I've yet to see the lot full, but 15 chargers means there's plenty to go around for everyone.
