A couple nights ago (Friday before 4th of July weekend, of course), the kitchen sink started to back up. It wasn't just a bit slow, it was pretty much unusable. I called Roto-Rooter. They sent out a guy in an unmarked van. I live in an upscale gated community and we often get high bids for repairs. The repair guy was here about 15 minutes, 5 to look at the job, 5 to bring in his equipment, and 5 to actually snake the pipe. He wanted $495. After I said that is twice the going rate,he said it would be $400 if I reinstalled the pipes that I took apart myself prior to his arrival. I said I can do that. I have checked local prices on the web and a normal fee is more like $200. I will not use roto rooter again.
