I see some bad reviews on here, so let's see if I can change the algorithm or not, shall we? Once upon a time, I was an Elite Yelper with a lovely black badge. Alas, today, just a guy on Yelp writing reviews. Man, I can remember like it was yesterday. I was freshly divorced, bought a new Subaru Outback (that apparently is a station wagon and not an SUV) and I was towing a trailer to another journey. The air was crisp on that October morning in 2020 and I was leaving SLC in the rear view. Not an easy choice, but the only one at that time. But, first, I had to put all my personal belongings in storage and I checked a few spots. It was not cheap. This shop was nice and clean, secure, and in an area with good lighting and a pretty safe hood too. I was lucky enough to find my guy Andrew D. at this spot and he's been super helpful! I got a nice spot for all my garbag.... personal items, I stacked it up and boom. Easy as apple pie. I've been with these guys for 4 years. My longest steady relationship since the divorce. But jokes aside, my man Andrew D. has been a super cool dude to work with and he's one of the good guys. Even with the price increases over the years, they have been kind enough to work with me when my finances were not stellar. They'll get you in with a good price but then over time it'll more than triple in price. Definitely would recommend avoiding this place.

Wow!!! I must say I'm really Shocked by some of the reviews! This Is An Awesome Company with Great People who Maintain and keep it Clean, Safe, and Secure!!! The rent only went up 1 time in 8 Month's and it was a Less than $10 per month increase!!! My phone calls were answered by the Manager almost Every Time when I called during Business Hour's!! Customer Service also answered quickly! I admit my experience at 1st was a little rocky due to miscommunication with the manager at a different location and when I spoke with upper management they weren't very helpful. HOWEVER, Matt the Manager at 9741 South 700 East, Sandy, UT is FANTASTIC and did his BEST to quickly RESOLVE the issues and he took Exceptional Care of all my needs from then on! Once Matt moved on and Preston took over as Manager, he too went Above and Beyond the Call of Duty to assist me in having the Best Experience Possible!!! I went from a 10 X 10 to a 5X10 and both were Clean and met my needs! As I previously stated they answered my calls quickly and always did their upmost Best to answer any questions I had and worked with me when I wasn't able, due to illness, to move out when I'd planned! Preston is a FANTASTIC MANAGER and I am Grateful for the Kindness he showed in giving me a few extra days to move everything out!!! You're the Best!!! The facility is excellent. The service is fast and easy via the web. The pricing is INITIALLY fair. Then they continuously raise their prices every few months, citing BS reasons. Why do I know it's BS? Because the current "web price" is the same as when I first rented a unit a couple of years ago, yet by the time I was finally fed up, it had raised to more than three times the initial price. I tried to contact them to dispute the changes and was told I had to talk to a person at the physical location, but would then lose the "web price", so I was essentially stuck with the price with no recourse. The end result? I moved out to a different company's facility next door for half the price. If you're going to use this facility, plan on about six months, maybe a little longer, then move to another unit under another family member's name or something. read more

The facility is neat, clean, safe and secure. I rented from about April to December and my rent was raised two times. No one answers the phone, calls go to a central location, hard to talk to a live person. read more

At the end of the day, a storage unit is a storage unit. What makes the difference is the people who run it. I enjoy every experience with the staff at these locations, whether it is general questions or an issue with payments, etc. They are always happy to help out. I always recommend them. read more

I guess they are fine if you don't mind having a gate that drops on and dents your car if you don't make it through fast enough and/or if you are okay with having the elevator (very slow elevator) disabled if you need to hold the door open longer than they want. read more

A FEW months later it will double so you'll end up giving them your savings back! Don't do it! Go elsewhere! "EMILY'S" response below is so typically defensive.  No one said anything about "guaranteed for life."  We just don't want to be screwed right before winter, only by way of postcard even when our accounts state "emails only" (don't want us to know right away we're getting screwed) and get increases over 70%!!!  If you had better listening skills you may actually be able to offer accurate customer service! read more

Been using this facility for over 3 years now, and it's served the family well! We just upgraded from a 5x10 to a 10x10 since my son is entering the US Army and shipping off to Basic Training here soon. So, the extra room was needed as he has a lot of "stuff." And we even got a better price using the web special pricing options! The new 10x10 facility was upstairs and father to the east down the long hall, but we were able to use two of their wheeled carts and two of their large freight elevators to quickly move the stuff from one room to another. The front office manager was real nice and even brought us some cold bottled water to drink during the ~2 hours we were in there making the move. Suggest they extend the passcode boxes a bit more into the path of the vehicle as I always fear of running my wheels against the curb entering and exiting the facility. May just remove the curb there altogether? Five Stars for safety, convenience, climate controlled, and ease-of-use. read more

I love Extra Space Storage! The staff are friendly and kind! You can get different size units. The place is always clean and I feel very safe when I go there because of their very tight security. 24/7 access to your unit. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for secure storage! read more

This company provides a very enticing price for new customers, but once you have moved in, they start inflating your rate within just a few months. I have seen 3-4 price increases in the past year for my two units. When I complained to the local management about the continual price increases, I received a $20/month adjustment on the planned future rate for one of the units. However, this adjustment compares unfavorably to the online rate for an identical unit which is approximately $100 per month less than the rate they were attempting to charge me going forward. There are four similar units next to mine that are currently unoccupied. So my market-adjusted rate should be going down, not up! I feel that the difference between the move in rate and the rate one year later ($301 vs $361) is excessive. My reaction so far has been to consolidate all of my belongings into one unit, and to give up on the second unit. If the price increases continue like this on the remaining unit, I will have to move out entirely. read more

I will be spending the money and time to move my things out of there and making sure anyone who asks never books at Extra Space. Blah! On top of it all- they aren't answering their phone. read more

Bait and Switch. That is their business practice. After we moved in,over the past 6 months have seen price increases over 18%. While current government policies have resulted in inflationary pressure, not 18%. Extra Space Storage will create extra space in your wallet. read more

Horrible company. Two months after renting a unit there they raised my rate over 60 bucks

We stored our belongings here for about 6 months. We had no problems at all. The facility is pretty new and kept up well. When it was time to check out, they returned my call very quickly and it was no hassle. My experience is very positive. The only downside was the rise in rent cost after about four months, they bumped our rent up about $25 for no real reason. read more

It's October 2021. They increased my rate by 81%. Yep! 81%. My friend in MA just got a unit three months ago. They increased her rate $100! Yep! $100! They chose to send out a mailing RIGHT BEFORE WINTER starts. They also MAIL it to the address you have on file. Well - I have paper turned off but do they email me? NOPE! I found out a few weeks later after gathering mail. Before I'd rented a unit I went to the counter sharing ALL the horrible reviews regarding huge price increases after only a short while. They promised it wouldn't happen. Well - it did. They will say it's for excellent customer service and a clean building. HA! It's a cement structure - really?! It's a scam is what it is. I can understand an increase - but 81%? $100 a month? Right before winter when they know you are stuck. Shame on Extra Space Storage! Oh - and they even raised my unit to a price higher than what's posted on their website! Go rent from a ma/pa place with integrity. read more

I have never ever experienced such an unprofessional company. I gave them a phone call, two days in advance let you know that I would be closing my account with them. I spoke to a representative over the phone, who assured me that this would be not a problem. Anyway when I got there, nobody was there to begin with, and all of my belongings were locked. I gave them a call multiple times, to make sure that somebody would be there, and at the end of the day I drove 15 minutes out of my way just to do what I need to do. And nobody was there. They told me multiple times that somebody would be there. I called at least six times actually maybe about 20, and nobody answered the phone. This company, is incompetent. They do not have a clue what they're doing. Do not, I repeat do not, store your belongings here. This company is a fraud. They are the worst. There are a lot of better places you can go to. Thank God that all of my things that were in there were not that valuable. Or else I would be definitely filing a lawsuit. Good riddance. read more

The area was clean and neat, I felt my stored items would be very safe. Wasn't sure about the insurance they make you purchase, but for a small fee its ok. Susan was extremely helpful and friendly I liked her a lot. I just hope they don't raise rent like uhaul did every so often- you were at their mercy; no one likes to keep moving their stuff around. I was pressed for time to get a unit the day that I went in, and Susan went to work and put me in a unit that was a 5x10 offered me a fantastic deal since I was not sure how long I would need the unit. The facility is also very clean and nice. High recommendations to store here. read more

At the onset of my time using Extra Space, I was very pleased--the unit was perfect, the staff kind, and the leasing process was fairly easy. However, not even 4 months into my lease, I received a notice that my monthly rent would be increasing by an astounding 60% (from $130 to $210 per month). While I understand that it is normal for rent rates to fluctuate, I was very upset by the fact that the increase (1) occurred so early in our rental period, under 4 months after we began our lease, and (2) was such a steep increase, as opposed to a gradual increase in rate over a period of 6 months or so. When contacted, the location staff were cordial, but maintained that the increase was a corporate decision that they had no say in. They claimed to have been able to convince corporate to lower the increase to $30 more per month rather than the stated $80; however, they noted that the remaining increase would be applied eventually. Though I appreciated their attempt to minimize the scheduled increase, my trust in the company was lost--I did not trust that they would not continue to increase the monthly rent even after reaching the initial increase price of $210 per month. As a military family, I had trusted that Extra Space was a trustworthy company that would keep our goods safe while my husband was serving in another state. I never thought that less than 4 months into our lease, I would be extorted for more money and have to determine how to move our family's belongings again so soon after moving them in. We were forced with having to either pay more than we could afford every month to leave our stuff where it was, or spend money to have our goods moved to an alternative storage facility. Either way, my family was out money that we never should have had to spend in the first place. Ultimately, I regret ever choosing to store my belongings here--they certainly don't care about their customers and their business practices are immoral. read more

I moved in July 2014 and rented 2 - 10'x18' units. At 148.00 per month each. By December I was able to get rid of the two 10'x18' units and downsize to 1 - 10'x10', so I did. The initial price was 96.00 per month, four months later it was raised 8.3% to 104.00. Fast forward 9 months yep, another price increase. I received a "Rate Hike" notice on 1/5/16. This time its 15.4% to 120.00 per month. Keep in mind Im in a 10'x10' unit. This is absurd. I drive down and speak to the Manager. I dont recall her name but she assured me that she "would call me back", this is Tuesday 1/5/16, Anyways, I wait, and wait, and wait. Its now Saturday and I call her, she answers the phone and its fairly clear she forgot. She tells me that she was just getting ready to call me because her corporate just called her back with an answer...........Right!! She informs me that there is nothing she can do, the 120.00 rate is here to stay. Now, I assume that Extra Space Storage (and I single them out because Ive used other storage places in the past, and there are no significant increases) I assume they are banking on people just paying the extortion instead of moving out, after all moving sucks, just my theory. I informed her I would be out by the first of February. I was out on January 18th and I went to the office for my "Final" receipt stating that I had vacated. I (knowing the answer) asked if I could return the lock they sold me? This lock cannot be used anywhere else for no other purpose, they hook you for it on day #1. Of course the answer was "NO". I also asked if they would refund me for the days I am not using for the rest of the month, answer "NO". I just looked up my American Express statements from July 2014 through January 2016. I spent exactly $2,232.95 with Extra Space storage. Because of greed, they lost a good customer and I promise I will tell this story as often as I can. read more
