I rent here they raise rates every other month. Rats eat and poop on everything. Security cameras are a joke. Management changes every other month. Good luck if you put things you value most here. Better get the best insurance and file a claim. read more

Great people and awesome manager. Very helpful and well informative. Love the way they make you feel important.

Call and ask questions, because they definitely don't volunteer any information prior to renting to you. Admin fee of $30? Not the best customer service. Think it's a good deal? Only if you pay 4 months in advance. Would have been nice to have all the info up front instead of being up sold from $93 to $167. Hopefully they have more than one person working there, because the one I had to deal with was not someone I want to engage with regularly. I called to say I was on the way to get a unit (literally two minutes away) to be told she could not guarantee she would be there when I got there. And I guess to prove her point, she wasn't. She was on the property in her golf cart. read more

I previously posted a review about my friend sustaining damages due to a rat infestation and that the insurance company that Extra Space Storage requires customers to use is worthless in my opinion. By worthless... if a claim is filed, it is ignored. Emily S. responded to my review as the Business Owner and gave her number, which was the phone number of Extra Space Storage. When I called Emily's number, there is no Emily S. there, probably anywhere. The staff at the facility are standing by the insurance they make you buy -- ESIS insurance. ESIS, Beecher Carlson, and Brown & Brown (parent insurance companies) only provide email contact information which they ignore on their web sites -- no phone numbers. Nobody to talk to -- only ghosts like Emily S. read more

I usually don't use storage units but a short term rental is what I needed after my husband died and I moved out of my house of 30+ years and had to sort through 48 years of stuff and only take what would fit in my one room. After 8 moths I just couldn't go through any more so I stared it till I can decide what to do. I have had a good experience with the staff. The only problem was I needed a small unit they didn't have then after only 4 months my rent went up. read more

I just rented a storage unit at Extra Space Storage at 801 J Clyde Morris Blvd and was very happy with the service that was provided along with the timelines of getting it all done. The young lady was very personable and with her things went smoothly Thank you EXTRA SPACE STORAGE read more

Mice and roach poop were discovered on my belongings a couple of years into having the unit, along with some items chewed through. Months later, we uncovered faulty insulation install (it was manually taped to the ceiling and hidden when I first moved in) after a flood in the unit caused water damage to my furniture. At first the staff did very little to help with the situation. They only offered to have pest control place traps in the unit on their regularly scheduled days, and would contact me when they came out... but they never contacted me. This failure to follow up with me happened multiple times in a few months (and they were aware I had limited time in town to keep visiting the unit to rectify the situation). No offer to move me to a different unit, a discounted rate, or anything like that was made. It wasn't until the flood in the unit happened that I received better service, but from different staff members. The assistant manager (I believe his name was Steve) was very helpful in instructing me on the insurance claim process, and informed me that what I went through before he was transferred there is not how the company is supposed to operate. He confirmed that I should have been offered a free move to a different unit at a discounted rate while they dealt with the pest issue (before uncovering the flood damage). Unfortunately by that time my mind was already made up to move my belongings out of Extra Space Storage. My current rating is 2 stars, but it might've been 3 or 4 if the latest management staff were working there years before. My experience was tightly coupled with the employees working at the time. read more

Dont use the extra space storage in Denbigh Blvd, Newport News. The need to change their name to You Store It We will steal it storage. I stored everything I owned here and it was stolen or destroyed. I truly feel that the people working there played a big part in it. Since they and only myself and my son knew what was being stored. No help from the facility or customer service was offered. Stay far away from these thief's. read more

Moved into 2 of their storage areas in May of 2022, at the time they made no mention of having an issue with rodents, in fact told us about their pest control measures etc. Turns out they had / have a rodent issue and a big one. our one unit was over run and we had a great deal of damage to stored items. While i am sure most storage places have some level of problems i believe the unit we had was far above the curve, multiple boxes chewed into, droppings & urine on nearly every box we removed, saw the rats as we were moving items (lot attendants saw them too as I asked them to come check the damage). your call, but i would look elsewhere until they have this situation under control. oh, and we also were not able to use the dumpster on site to dispose of the "affected" items, was told it was against company policy. I wound up having to take the items off site myself to dispose of, thankfully i have a pick-up or you would be renting something yourself to clean up that mess. read more

They make it so easy! From moving in to moving out, I had no issues. Staff is pleasant and knowledgeable. Grounds are kept clean. Definitely recommend! read more

Dishonest people that try to trick you into signing worse deals than advertised. They raise your rates "every 4-6 months" so any good deal will disappear. Go somewhere else! These are bad people! read more

When you think about self storage, customer service is typically not the first adjective that comes to mind... Unless you've stored with Extra Space Storage before. Not only is this location everything you want out of a storage facility (clean, reasonably priced, secure, ect) but also, the customer service I received during my time here was top notch with every single interaction I had with the managers. I would highly recommend this location for all of your storage needs! read more

I looked around for a storage unit for a few days and read all about Public Storage. The thing is their customer service sucked and it was 20% more expensive than Extra Space Storage was. I saw this place when I drove by and stopped in on a whim. In the parking lot I looked them up online and read good things. The manager was on duty and actually greeted me with a smile and a firm handshake. He asked what I was looking for and gave me a tour of the facility. It has 24 hour surveillance and security onsite. The first month was free and a lot less than PS was. They also are paperless. I like the fact that they are green and everything is PDF based and uses digital signature. I had the confirmation and contract sent to my email. They have an easy to use interface in the office and took my credit card info so I don't even have to worry about making the payment on time. We had a great conversation and I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a secure and safe place for storage. Each time I stop in the staff is courteous and attentive. They do their job well and I am impressed with the professionalism displayed. Thank you for the awesome customer service. read more

I cant emphasize more on this .Dont get with this company to store yours stuff for a long period of time.I mean extra space company alltogether .They jack up prises every few months and they trap you. They are the worst ever at this.Trust me on this .Find another storage company unless doing it for a few months .My rent has doubled in 2 years .You think they would wanna look after there long termers but as always I just move somewhere cheaper Who loses they do .Then they bring in someone at deal rate who may not stay long.Dumbasses run this company.I will explain how they actually lose money on another review read more

Very accommodating to my needs as many of them were last minute. Affordable and convenient access for moving trucks! Pleasant service on site. Very professional! read more

We thought this was going to be a good storage company based on the previous ratings. We have renters insurance so we did not buy the extra insurance because our insurance would cover damage done by flood, fire, theft, etc. However, when we went to open the unit recently everything was covered in building waste, dirt, and bugs. The company had done some work on their building and had created an environment where their work dumped this debris into the unit from above. When we spoke to the manager she just repeatedly said if we did not buy their insurance there was nothing they could do. So apparently the tenants have to buy insurance to cover negligence by the actually storage space owners. When I pointed out that their own negligence fell outside of the reason for the insurance she kept repeating herself very rudely and without apology. We are terminating our contract with Extra Space. read more

I am very unhappy with this place. I called an explain that I was recently involved in a domestic violence incident which caused me fiancial hardship and caused me to go into labor. I explained to property manager and assistant manager that they have laws that revovle around cases like mine. I was told by the districe attorney if this cause any hardship that my creditors and bills are to comply. The workers at this property did not care at all that my whole life was in this storage and that I was a victim. Netherless I went into labor and called them from the hospital stating that I had someone to pay the storage within 48 hours. I explain that my personal information was in the storage and all I received was oh well. I found out my stuff was auction online for 180.00 less than what a family member was willing to pay them within the 48 hours. As a victim of domestic violence I feel more should have been done knowing the circumstances. I was not only a victim but also going through childbirth alone and this place had not a care in the world. read more
