My wife and I needed to store our camper van for an extended duration when our cross-country road trip was interrupted and we had to suddenly fly back home. I'm so glad I found this storage facility. Jonathan was able to help us find a unit that fit our oversized vehicle, and even saved us some money in the process (the unit I booked online was somehow smaller and more expensive). We thought we'd be gone only a few weeks. A few weeks turned into almost six months. When we finally got back, and found our precious van still in one piece, it was such a relief I decided I had to write this review. Today ( November 7th) I stopped by to drop something at my unit and I was stopped by a maintenance crew who let me know that here was a flood on Saturday ( November 4th) and that my unit was flooded. I am baffled that no one had called me to let me know this had happened, especially as it was an event that happened 4 days ago. Had I not randomly stopped by, I don't know if they would have ever notified me. If they did notify me I could have saved some stuff the day it happened, but they thought is was better for my stuff to sit in 3 inches of water and collect mold. Filing an insurance claim and am furious the way this is being handled and the lack of accountability. read more

Theft and overcharging at Extra Space Storage on Union ave. 395. I have been a customer of Extra Space Storage since August 21, 2022. After offering a First month's no charge Extra Space Storage charged five times the going rate of 68.00 equaling approximately 258.00 per month for the same unit with climate control* .. previously not provide although five time the rate was being charged. The theft of a 500.00 TV from unit, when reported prompted the management to tamper with the ( company provided lock on my unit and later claim the unit was merely left open, so as to attempt to otherwise explain the loss.. which is now clear was more likely than not an "inside job" Lies and hidden fees give Extra Space Storage at 395 Union ave a very bad rating. I rented out a storage unit in March 2022, and it was a 10/10 unit initially.( HacksCross) However, I didn't move in until April 2022, but was told that March was my free first month, not stated in the beginning. Therefore , it caused a bit of confusion, my storage unit fell behind due to financial issue. But, I did communicate with Emily about this matter and we often spoke to stay aware of the process of payment. I was later told that the unit was about to go into auction and I had to pay $700(estimate) dollars to keep from auctioning items. The manager forgot to that they had already texted me stating that the balance was $540 after I made a partial payment. So, I quesruined her about the amount given. She then recalculated and came up with the total of $626. I proceeded to let her know that I'm having a financial hardship, but will make arrangements to keep from my items being auctioned. So, on July 15, 2022 I was told that the storage would be auctioned if not paid in full. I was at the storage unit the entire day (until 6:00pm)speaking to Emily and informed her about I'm about to get the money to pay my balance. I also informed her that I have some money to put on it and I will just pay the remaining balance. Emily told me to keep the money since I. didn't have the full payment, she stated she didn't won't me to make a partial payment. I stayed at the storage unit after that and was parked out front waiting for my remaining money to post to pay the full amount. . I was not notified any further on the process of my storage unit until July 16, 2022. I walked in to make the full payment, and I noticed a lady in front of me that had money in her hand and she stated that she was there to pay for an auctioned unit. She proceeded to pay and then I walk up to Emily and hand her my money and she stated that your storage unit was sold on yesterday......and July 15, 2022 and picked up also. I was furious and was how could that be when I was here the entire day sitting in my car until 6:00pm. She stated, "yeah I know." very nonchalant. I didn't see anyone pass me with any items. This was on July 16, 2022, not of this making any sense to me. I saw the same lady that was in front of me paying on the auction unit loading my items on a trI know on the side of the building. I told Emily that she lied my storage unit and items was not gone. Howeve, they were loading them on the truck on July 16, 2022 after she made the payment. The cops were called and got involved and I requested to get my personal items and was instructed to do so through civil court. This was the worse experience I've ever encountered my whole life and personal items are gone.....I'm so hurt and feel so violated. I want my personal items especially my kids photos, degrees....etc. this is ridiculous and they are so insensitive. I have called everyday requesting that they bring my personal items. This place is TERRIBLE!!!! when I stopped by to grab a few things out of my locker I couldn't even get into the gate because they had changed the code and hadn't told me or sent me anything about a new one. Normally i'd walk into the office and ask what the code is but as I approached the main entrance I saw employees yelling at two customers (terrible look for business) and after about two minutes of waiting outside for the situation to calm down I gave up and waited in my car to go in behind someone else. Once I was inside I found where my unit would be but when I tried to open the main door to get to my unit the passcode didn't work there either. I was about to walk back towards the office when I saw a woman outside of the office entrance screaming,crying, and yelling along with a man trying to comfort her and shame the employees so I turned around and waited till someone who knew the code opened the door. When I FINALLY got to my unit I started loading up my car with some of my belongings but was quickly approached by a male employee who told me that I had to stop. I was extremely confused and asked for clarification and his response was something along the lines of "you can't just do that. you can't move your stuff out without saying anything. you have to leave your things to be auctioned if you can't pay but you can't take your things home" I informed him that I was grabbing some winter items and would be back to fill the unit with my summer ones but he rolled his eyes and said that he'd be "watching me" before walking off. I was so disgusted with the accusations and customer service that the next day I bought a different locker at a different business because there's absolutely no excuse for the weird treatment I received and nobody should ever have to be talked to like that. read more

I had an extraordinarily poor experience with Extra Space Storage. You can not use Extra Space Storage to store your valuables. I had an inside climate controlled unit. I was notified the building flooded due to a failure of the sump pump unit being unplugged or having no power. They said that there was between 8 and 10 inches of water. I had to drive from out of town to survey the damage. When I arrived to survey the damage 24 hours later the base of the walls were still wet and there was standing water in my unit. Various items were ruined and I am waiting to see the extent of the mold damage from the Extra Space Storage flood. - The manager (African American male, I did not catch his name) at the front gave me a sassy attitude. The Extra Space manager discussed the issue with me only briefly because he was eating lunch at his desk. - The manager said he would come out with a LEAF BLOWER to dry the wetness. - The manager never came during my visit. - I was using 3rd party insurance coverage and the manager said that the contract said they could not speak to them to relay the circumstances of the flood as was told to me. I found nothing in the contract that said this. - I requested the name/number of the District Manager (Raymond Huntley 901.325.6121) and the phone seemed to be disconnected / there was no voicemail set up. - I contacted corporate at info@extraspace.com since there was no phone number. There was no response (sent 2.5 months ago with a follow up a month later). - To compound the issue, my insurance company stated they would not cover damage caused by failure of the sump pump (HANOVER INSURANCE - this is a separate issue). We were so well taken care of at Extra Space Storage - downtown Memphis - these people should be in charge of setting the standard for all customer service businesses! Even though there was a minor computer issue when we arrived, they solved it and gave us a complete tour and explanation of how Extra Space works. The security these folks have in place is amazing!
