Never rent there My storage was broken into 2 times 3 days. Christmas day i went to my storage . door was peeled open like a can . I had to call the office and cops because they are all closed for Christmas And they post it closed holidays. So all thieves know when to rob them. The only reason a manager came because he had to let the cops in for the report. They told me sorry. The very next day yhey called me to say sorry again the thieves came back peeled the new door open again Not just my storage 15 others. 4th st and grand Santa ana Never rent extra space storage the thieves came through a unsecure fence. And i took pictures after we all got robbed they fixed the fence. I have pictures of before we got robbed. The fence and after . DONT RENT THERE OVERPRICED AND NOT SECURE I LOST EVERYTHING ALL MY WORK TOOLS AND PERSONAL PROPERTY .. I WAS PAYING SO MUCH. I thought I had insurance :-( read more

Donna helped to my make first experience with renting a storage unit great! My first encounter with her was over the phone and she was pleasant. She provided all the information necessary for me to navigate through this process. Then, when I physically went to make my first drop off, she was on the phone but acknowledged me and then, walked me to my unit. Donna, thank you so much!! Pertaining to the storage place itself... the gate access machine is a little awkward to use. I've been getting out of my vehicle to punch in my gate code. Loading carts were easy to grab and use. Overall I had a good experience with this Extra Space Storage. Donna is very nice. During my first month in Hilo, she was the nicest person that I met. She even took the time to help me find a few things (e.g. Post Office, doctor, etc.). This facility was not very crowded when I was there between late December and late February. It was also very affordable. It is on the edge of town though and construction (e.g. road work) is everywhere. I would probably give this business 5 stars except for the district manager. She works at the other Extra Space Storage in Hilo and one day she visited and was mean. She changed the way Donna was doing things, criticized me for filling a water bottle (even though I was houseless and getting by without using their bathroom because of COVID-19) and she made some outrageous statements that made me consider reporting her to her manager. I have used this company for almost a decade in Hawaii and on the mainland and I would not mind using them again. They generally have affordable rates (although they eventually raised them in Maui and Kauai) and they provide 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. access. read more

EXCELLENT SERVICE and ACCESS. I was in town for the rodeo and had extra equipment that needed secure storage. The new manager was outstanding; both on the phone, and when I came in. He went above and beyond to get me into a unit immediately. This location (compared to the other one) has plenty outside drive up units with sliding large doors-- very convenient. The gate hours are open early and late 7 days a week, very easy to access your stuff when you need it. read more

BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE!!! I called Heroldeen (Manager) at Extra Space Storage on Kalanianaole Ave. on 2/27/18. Told her I received another rate increase today. The bill showed that there will be an increase by $27.66/month. I asked if this was correct? I already had a rate increase on 6/30/17. She said my lease is on a month to month basis so they'll inform you a month before the hike increase. I said I understand the lease but within 14 months, there were 2 increases. She said it depends on today's going prices of other storages and the increase helps improve their security devices, etc. Well, speaking about improvements, their right door that access the facility is locked most of the time even though I punch in my access code. When the door slams, the loose lock button from the inside turns making it unable to get in from the outside. They blame that the customers lock it from the inside which they shouldn't. So I told them to put a sign to remind customers not to lock it, but haven't seen any sign yet. I tested the lock myself and when I slammed the door from the inside, the lock turned. It's not the customers, it's your lock that's broken. I then have to go in through another door, grrrrr. They need to fix that lock. I never had a problem when the previous company (Hilo Power Self Storage) was there. Their increase was only $5.00 or $10.00 at the most per year, which is within reason. Extra Space Storage took over as of 1/1/17. On 6/30/17, their increase was $16.82 per month. On 3/1/18, they will increase it again by $27.66 per month. I'm sorry for recommending my friends about this facility. It was good with the previous company. When the changeover occurred on 1/1/17, that's when there was higher and more frequent rate increases. I hope other customers don't go through this. I've been renting this space since 9/2013. Oh well, time to move out of there. Are other customers going through this rate increase, also? Please let me know. read more
